[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 52

Chapter 52

The Naming

Translator : PolterGlast

For now, I'll explain things to the Dead Priest, who is trying to run away.

"I explained it to the other two as well; it just leaked out by accident. It wasn't directed at you, Dead Priest."

"Th-that's a relief. ...But you normally suppress your presence, then."

"Nothing good comes from letting your presence just hang out. Of course I suppress it intentionally."

When I was in the village, the children would often cry, and the women would avoid me.

Even while being praised as the village hero, I was concerned about being treated like that, so I started to suppress it intentionally.

After that, the children started to like me, and I thought I had mastered it to the point where I could suppress it even subconsciously.

...Well, the women continued to avoid me, regardless of whether I was suppressing my presence or not.

"More importantly, can I hear the rest of the story? I want information about the one calling themselves the Demon Lord's army."

"I'm sorry. I've only been able to get information at the rumor level myself, so I don't know if it's true or not. However, considering that the higher-ranking species were all born at once, I do think there's a high probability of their involvement."

"...I see. If there's no information, then it can't be helped."

I know better than anyone that the Demon Lord's army cannot be left unchecked.

Now that it's come to this, I'm worried about Furo Village, but... with those two there, it should be fine.

"For now, that's all the information I wanted to convey. Was there something you needed, Graham-sama?"

"Yeah. I came to tell you that I'll be subjugating the Berserk Bear. It's okay if I go ahead and defeat it, right?"

"Of course it's okay! There is no mistake in what you do, Graham-sama!"

"No, I didn't come here for flattery. I came to ask if it would be alright, considering the impact on other areas. The monsters started to get active because I wiped out the Red Ogre horde, didn't they?"

When I asked that, it started to think with a serious expression this time.

"It wasn't flattery; I truly think it will be fine. Right now, a conflict is occurring over the empty seat left by the absence of the Red Ogre horde, but if you also defeat the Berserk Bear and the Silver Golem, the conflict will disappear."

"I see. So if I defeat the rest, it won't matter."

"Yes. I will take responsibility for managing the vacant areas. It's a lucrative position, but I will act according to your wishes, Graham-sama, so you can effectively rule the area."

"I have no desire to rule, and if I have monsters under my command, it'll likely start bad rumors, so I'd rather avoid that... but the idea of eliminating all danger might be good. Undead have practically infinite lifespans, right?"

"That's right. As long as we're not killed, I don't think we'll die!"

With this, my course of action is completely decided.

Subjugation of the two monster types: the Berserk Bear and the Silver Golem.

It seems there are higher-ranking species as well, but if they're on the same level as a Flame Ogre, I shouldn't lose.

I'll probably have to do it while completing quests, but I want to move to defeat them as soon as possible.

"Then I'll leave the governance after my subjugation to you, Dead Priest. ...In that case, it would probably be better to give you a name. 'Dead Priest' is unnecessarily long, and it's a pain to say every time."

"What!? Y-you would give me a name?"

"Is it something to be that surprised about?"

The Dead Priest, which had been backing away from my presence, leaned forward the moment it heard the word "name."

I don't think it's that big of a deal, but maybe it's something special for a monster.

"Graham...! Are you sure it's okay to give it a name? I've heard that named monsters are incredibly strong."

"No, it's not like they get stronger the moment you name them, right? Just like how the people of Biodasdal called the Dead Priest the Magus of Death, it's more like strong monsters are given names, isn't it?"

"Huh? Hmm... I wonder if that's how it is?"

"Well. I don't really know either, but I doubt it'll get drastically stronger just because I give it a name."

Having come to that conclusion, I decided to bestow a name upon the Dead Priest.

Now, how should I decide?

Depp, Dory, Priest.

They're all fine, but they might be a little too simple.

"...I've decided. From this day forward, you will be known as Bane."

"Thank you. From this day forward, I will be known as Bane."

The moment Bane said that, I felt a massive amount of my magic power drain from my body.

It was a phenomenon I had never experienced before, and in my confusion, I looked at Bane... and I could see Bane's presence growing stronger and stronger.
