Chapter 56
Multiple Casting
Translator : PolterGlast
The day after we
collected the "Lovely Honey."
Ginia, Aoi, and I met
up and, without stopping by the Adventurer's Guild, headed straight for the
city gate.
Normally, we would
have headed to the Adventurer's Guild out of habit, but this time, we were
going to defeat the Berserk Bear not for a quest, but as a good deed.
I'm still not sure if
this can be called a good deed, but if it saves lives by defeating a dangerous
monster, then it probably is.
As I was thinking
that, I saw the figure of the Guild Master, who had arrived before us.
His attire was
different from when he was at the Adventurer's Guild; he wore high-quality
armor and had a black longsword at his hip.
It was a fine sword
that you could tell at a glance had been well-used for many years.
He was also carrying a
large backpack, and from how much it was bulging, I could tell it was packed
full of supplies.
In contrast, we were
dressed so casually that it wouldn't be surprising if people thought we were
slacking off.
Even though a
Berserker Bear was born from a horde of Berserk Bears, it's still only on the
level of a Flame Ogre.
I had judged that
there was no need to get so geared up, but seeing his serious equipment made me
a little anxious.
"Sorry to keep
you waiting, Guild Master. That's some impressive gear you've got there."
"Morning,
Graham-san. I just got here myself, so don't worry about it. As for the gear, I
came fully equipped since it is a restricted area, but... am I a bit out of
place?"
"No, I think
we're the strange ones! Being with Graham-san has made me a bit numb to these
things."
"Well, if Graham
is here, we'll manage somehow, so lighter gear is better, right!"
"I'm used to
moving with a heavy pack, so you don't have to worry about me. Well then, shall
we head to Hest Forest right away?"
"Yeah, please
lead the way."
With the heavily-laden
Guild Master in the lead, we set off from the town of Biodasdal and headed for
Hest Forest.
The well-paved road
continued for a while, but it gradually turned into a gravel path, and before
we knew it, it had become a beast trail overgrown with plants.
We haven't come that
far from the city, but this change means that truly no one has been near here.
"What a road!
Normally, you'd turn back."
"You're right. If
the Guild Master wasn't here, we might not have even been able to reach
it."
"That's not true.
It's relatively close, and anyone who can read a map can get to the forest.
—See, the entrance is already in sight."
Pushing through grass
that was nearly two meters tall, we could see a large forest in the direction
the Guild Master was pointing.
It was as dark as
night even though it was the middle of the day, and it was a forest that was
hard to approach, regardless of whether there were dangerous monsters or not.
Perhaps because we had
gone to the peaceful southeastern forest yesterday, the contrast made it seem
even eerier.
"What a dark
forest. The southeastern forest felt rich in nature, but here, nature has gone
too far and it's just creepy."
"The trees must
be so dense that no sunlight gets through. There are hardly any paths, so it
looks like it'll be tough just to move forward."
"I'll take the
lead in the forest. I've been an adventurer for a long time, so I've explored
places like this before. I'd like one of you three to hold a lantern..."
"If it's light
you need, magic should be fine. There's no need to occupy a hand."
I cut in on the Guild
Master's statement, made that proposal, and then cast the [Light] spell.
It had been a while
since I'd used it, so it ended up being surprisingly bright, but by having it
float high up, I could use it as a substitute for sunlight.
"Whoa, it's so
bright! You can use magic like this too, Graham-san!"
"I used to give
up on places like caves because they were too dark, but with a mage, exploring
is this easy! I'm starting to regret being a solo adventurer all this
time...!"
"...N-no,
Graham-san is just special. No one uses magic just for light unless it's a rare
occasion. It's a waste of magic power, and you lose one person's fighting
strength."
"Lose one
person's fighting strength? What do you mean?"
"...Hmm? I can't
use magic, so I don't know for sure, but can't you not cast another spell while
you're in the middle of casting one?"
"No, you can cast
multiple spells at once. —[Water Ball] [Wind Ball] [Fire Ball] [Stone
Ball]."
While still using the
[Light] spell, I simultaneously cast the four basic elemental spells.
Four spherical spells
were released into the air.
The spells, which flew
in arcs from different directions, collided above me and exploded with a loud
bang.
It's a spell I never
use in battle, but I'm very fond of its artistic quality.
The children in Furo
Village were always happy when I showed them this trick, so I thought the three
of them would be happy too, but... the Guild Master, Ginia, and Aoi were all
staring with their mouths agape, completely dazed.
