Chapter 57
Hest Forest
Translator : PolterGlast
The three of them
stood with their mouths hanging open, not saying a word.
Losing my patience, I
asked the Guild Master for his thoughts.
"See, you can
cast multiple spells at once, right? If you try, you can even do precise movements
like that."
"............N-no,
no, that's absolutely not normal! It's impossible! Four spells at once... no,
five including the [Light] spell. I've never heard of anyone being able to use
five spells at the same time! And—what was that? That giant spherical spell!!
You called it a [Fire Ball], but I've never seen a roaring ball of hellfire
like that!"
"Calm down a bit,
Guild Master. You're using polite language again."
"...S-sorry.
There are just so many surprising things that when I'm in front of you,
Graham-san, the blood rushes to my head in a different sense."
I calmed down the
Guild Master, who was flushed and excited.
He really does get
excited easily; maybe this is just his natural personality.
"But that was
truly amazing! I can't believe you can use magic like that!"
"If he can do
something that amazing, I should have learned magic too!"
"What I just used
were beginner spells, so you could learn them quickly if you wanted to."
"No, no! You
absolutely should not try to imitate Graham-san. I've seen countless
adventurers, but Graham-san is off-the-charts insane! Real beginner magic is
much more puny!"
The still-excited
Guild Master strongly warned the two who were looking at my magic with envy.
[Purifying Flame]
might be difficult, but as for multiple casting, it's easy once you get the
hang of it.
Well, it would be
foolish to argue with the Guild Master here and waste time.
Our objective this
time isn't magic, but the subjugation of the Berserk Bear beyond Hest Forest.
"You understand
now that I can cast multiple spells, so let's just move on. At this rate, we'll
spend the whole day at the entrance."
"You're right...
As I said before, I'll take the lead, so I'm leaving the lighting to you,
Graham-san."
"What should
Aoi-chan and I do?"
"Just walk
between me and the Guild Master. If a monster appears, I'll have you two fight
it actively."
"Roger! I'm
excited to see what kind of monsters will show up!"
After composing
ourselves, we began to advance into Hest Forest.
The inside of the
forest was completely untamed as it was a restricted area, but just as he had
confidently stated, the Guild Master was extremely deft at clearing a path
through the vegetation.
A path for one person
was created in the blink of an eye, and we, following behind, were able to
proceed through the forest without any stress.
After advancing for
about an hour without even the presence of a beast, let alone a monster, we
finally came out onto what looked like a beast trail.
"Phew, that was
tougher than I thought. But with this, we can finally say we're inside Hest
Forest. I expect the number of monsters we encounter will increase dramatically
from here on."
"Sorry for making
you take the lead. Thanks to you, we were able to proceed with ease."
"I was the one
who insisted on coming along, so let me do at least this much. More
importantly, the real challenge starts now. I think I can fight a little, but I
have a pretty long blank, so don't count on me as part of your fighting
strength."
"That's not a
problem. Ginia and Aoi can both fight well."
"That's right!
I'll take care of the small fry on the way with Ginia! You can rest in the
back, Guild Master!"
"Right! I'll show
you the results of my training, Graham-san!"
Ginia seems fired up,
but it hasn't been that long since the Ogre battle.
There's a chance she
might try too hard to show off and end up spinning her wheels, so I'll be ready
to support her at any time.
"Speak of the
devil... something is coming towards us from the front right."
"I had a vague
feeling when you found the goblin, but your scouting is truly first-class,
Graham-san. I'm trying my best to sense for presences, but I can't detect any
approaching monsters."
"The trick is to
not rely on your five senses, but to use your sixth sense. With practice,
you'll be able to do it too, Guild Master."
"You say with
practice, but I'm already past the practice stage and retired..."
Just like multiple
casting, scouting isn't that difficult.
Even in Furo Village,
even the children were able to learn how to scout.
The twin sisters are
even better at scouting than I am. I think it's just that people here don't
know how to do it.
As I was thinking
that, the monster that was heading towards us appeared.
"This monster is
a Battle Ape! And it's a pack... This is a tough enemy with a recommended
subjugation rank of C!"
"As expected of
the Guild Master. Your knowledge of monsters is on another level. There are
three in the front and four in the back... but the ones in the back are far
away, so we don't need to worry about them. Can the two of you handle three of
them?"
"Of course we
can! We don't need your instructions this time, Graham-san!"
"Two for Ginia?
Two for me?"
"Let me take two!
I'll finish them in an instant."
The two of them
coordinated and decided who would take which monster.
A Lesser Ogre is
E-rank, and this Battle Ape is C-rank, two ranks higher, but... the Ginia of
today should be able to handle it.
While I prepared to
support them just in case, I could already gauge the monster's strength, so I
turned my eyes to their fight with relative confidence.
