Chapter 58
Battle Ape
Translator : PolterGlast
While the Guild Master
watched on worriedly, the first to move was Aoi.
She threw a kunai at a
Battle Ape, and with the adhesive thread wrapped around the kunai's handle, she
instantly bound it.
Forcibly separating
the entangled Battle Ape from the other two, Aoi created a one-on-one situation
in the blink of an eye.
Her handling of that
strange gadget and her fluid movements up to that point were worthy of a B-rank
adventurer.
Ginia, on the other
hand, was in a situation where she was outnumbered, and was currently observing
the two apes' movements.
She was likely waiting
for the right moment to see how they would move, and then strike to finish them
off.
Because Ginia was
taking such a defensive posture, it was Aoi's side that saw the first action.
The thread-like
substance she had wrapped around the ape was easily torn apart, and the excited
Battle Ape charged at Aoi.
"Aoi, it's a
straightforward type of monster."
She responded to my
advice with a thumbs-up, then completely read the Battle Ape's movements and
sliced its forehead with her kodachi.
It wasn't a deep
wound, but she had skillfully cut its eye, and instantly narrowed the Battle
Ape's field of vision right at the start of the battle.
It still had one eye
left, but against Aoi, whose strength lies in her quick movements, an injury to
one eye is far too fatal.
Always maneuvering to
get into the blind spot of its slashed right eye, Aoi defeated the Battle Ape
one-sidedly without using any skills.
"Alright, that's
one down! Not much of a challenge, was it!"
Aoi, who had secured a
victory without any trouble, gave me a V-sign with a smile.
I thought this would
be a good opportunity for them to gain experience, but the opponent was a little
too weak.
It might be a good
idea to have Aoi fight the Berserk Bear up ahead.
As I thought that
while watching her easygoing fight, I shifted my gaze to Ginia.
Ginia had been
fighting two Battle Apes, taking a defensive posture to observe their movements,
but it seemed she had now completely figured them out.
With a smile forming
at the corners of her mouth, she dodged the two Battle Apes' attacks, as if she
could see the future, and used their own momentum to lop off their heads.
I don't know what
Ginia is seeing, but she is extremely skilled at putting her blade into their
joints, and the heads of the two Battle Apes fell without Ginia herself putting
any force into it at all.
Ginia had started to
show not just strength, but a flair in her fighting.
Her growth is so
incredible it's hard to believe she was losing to goblins before she met me. If
the Berserk Bear is a similar type to the Battle Ape, it might be good to have
Ginia fight it as well.
"Graham-san, I
defeated them safely!"
"I was watching;
it was an easy victory. Both you and Aoi had perfect positioning."
"I'm not
satisfied just by defeating a monster of this level! Ginia and I will hunt all
the monsters that appear on the way!"
I smiled and nodded at
her dependable words, and the Guild Master, who had been silent during the
battle, walked over to the Battle Apes' corpses.
"Superb
swordsmanship. I was under the impression that you were the one who had cut
down the Ogre horde, Graham-san, but was it Ginia who cut down the unburned
Ogres?"
"The Ogre horde?
Ah, you mean the Lesser Ogre horde. That's right. It was due to your detailed
instructions, Graham-san, but I believe I was the one who cut them!"
"According to the
data, you just recently became an adventurer. And since your quest completion
rate jumped to 100% after teaming up with Graham-san, I had thought you were a
rookie who was just relying on him... but to have this much strength at this
young age, you are without a doubt a prodigy."
I wasn't the one being
praised, but I was happier than when I myself am praised.
I had been wanting to
boast about Ginia's growth rate to someone for a long time, so it was good that
the Guild Master, who has likely seen countless adventurers, was able to see it
and praise her.
"Ehehe, you're
exaggerating, that's not true! If I've really gotten stronger, it's all thanks
to you, Graham-san!"
"That's not true.
I coached people in Furo Village, but you definitely have a talent,
Ginia."
"Someone without
talent won't grow no matter how much they're coached. It's true that
Graham-san's influence is a huge factor, but you should have confidence in
yourself, Ginia."
"...Uhehe, y-you
think so?"
Ginia showed a strange
laugh, looking embarrassed.
Aoi was staring at
Ginia with envy.
"It must be nice
to get all the praise, Ginia! I think I did a pretty good job too!"
"You did a good
job too, Aoi, but it was an easy opponent for you. I'll give you a proper
evaluation when we encounter a formidable enemy."
"Alright! Then
let's push on! I'll be the one to defeat the Berserk Bear!"
Aoi, alone, got fired
up and began to stomp her way through Hest Forest.
While coaching the two
of them is one of my objectives, the main goal is the subjugation of the Berserk
Bear horde.
Let’s brace ourselves
and proceed through the Hest Forest.
