The First Experience

old abandoned road, we were greeted by Bane's subordinates, the Ghost Wizards.
The two Ghost Wizards
gave me a quick bow and then began to guide us to Bane.
"This is amazing.
To think that monsters would come to greet us like this."
"Seriously! For
me, who's been an adventurer for many years, this is an unbelievable
sight!"
"I still can't
believe it either. I've never encountered a monster like Bane before."
I thought I had seen a
variety of monsters in Furo Village, but I'd certainly never seen one that
offered to serve under me.

that we were always hostile towards monsters, and this is my first experience
interacting with them in a friendly manner.
"Bane-san is one
thing, but do you think the Ghost Wizards really have no hostile intent towards
us? Don't monsters always attack humans on sight?"
"We do not. We
have been strongly ordered by Bane-sama to obey Graham-sama and the others, and
after witnessing such power, we have no desire to be hostile."
It seemed one of the
Ghost Wizards had heard Ginia's voice, as it suddenly began to speak.
The three of us were
so genuinely surprised that a Ghost Wizard could talk that we jumped.
"...You can
understand language? I've never seen you talk before, so I just assumed you
couldn't."
"I have been told
by Bane-sama not to speak unnecessarily. However, I thought I should at least
convey that we have no hostile intent."
"I didn't even
know there were monsters that could talk! Can they choose not to attack because
they have high intelligence?"
"I do not know,
but I believe Bane-sama's will is strong."
"I see. There are
a lot of things I want to ask, but you've been told not to speak
unnecessarily."
The Ghost Wizard gave
a small, apologetic nod and then fell silent.
As we followed along
while talking amongst ourselves again, we arrived at the place where the usual
garbage dump was—but it had been cleaned up.
First the Guild
Master's office, and now this place has been cleaned up too? As I was thinking
that in surprise...
I sensed a strong
power from an unknown monster standing in front of me, and I gripped the hilt
of my katana.
I hadn't been able to
sense any strong power even after entering the old abandoned road, but the
moment it came into view, the unknown monster released its power.
The fact that it can
control its power confirms it's a formidable foe, and the power it's emitting
is considerable.
...It might have power
comparable to the Demon Lord's three generals.
"Who are you? If
you don't identify yourself within three seconds—I'll cut you down."
As I made that
declaration, the monster in front of me suddenly began to panic, raised both
its hands, and announced itself.
"Graham-sama! I
am Bane! Have you forgotten me!?"
The unknown monster
called itself Bane, but... it was clearly a different species of monster.
It hadn't just evolved
into a Lich; it looked as if it had deviated from the undead species
altogether.
The possibility that
it was just an imposter of Bane crossed my mind, but its attitude and voice
were exactly the same as Bane's.

idea what's going on.
"............Are
you really Bane?"
To ascertain the
truth, I asked the Ghost Wizard waiting behind me, and it nodded forcefully.
...It really seems to
be Bane.
"What in the
world happened? You're so different from before that I couldn't recognize
you."
"This is a first
for me as well, but I believe the cause is likely the name I received from you,
Graham-sama! I have been overflowing with power ever since you gave me the
name, and after sleeping for a day, I had transformed into this figure!"
Just giving it a name
made it reborn as a different species?
I've never heard of
such a thing, and the story is so outrageous that I can't believe it.
"So you're saying
this happened because of me?"

told not to come to the city, so I have been waiting here obediently!"
I think that was the

Bane laughed
