[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 73

Chapter 73

Marx Mountain

Translator : PolterGlast

The next day.

After returning from the old abandoned road yesterday, we prepared for today and then went our separate ways.

Because of that, our preparations are already perfect. While the sun was still not out, I left my inn and headed for the front of the tavern where the two would be waiting.

"Good morning, Graham-san! Today is mountain climbing and then the subjugation of the Gold Golem. It's going to be a hard day, but let's do our best!"

"Ginia seems energetic. On the other hand, Aoi... you look pretty sleepy. Are you okay?"

"I was practicing my new technique a little late last night, so I'm just a bit sleepy. I'll wake up and be fine by the time the sun comes out, so don't worry."

"You were training on your own until the last minute? If it's too tough, you can stay behind. This is a good deed, and you won't get a single coin for it."

"No way I'm staying behind! I finished my new technique for this, so I'm definitely coming!"

Aoi clenched both her hands tightly, showing her strong will to come along.

I'm worried she might get too fired up and spin her wheels, but well, if the monster is about as strong as a Flame Ogre or a Berserker Bear, she should be fine.

...Incidentally, I did invite the Guild Master, but apparently, he has a meeting he can't get out of today and won't be able to come.

His emotional ups and downs can be annoying, but more than that, his vast knowledge is a huge help.

He had read the terrain to find everything from the route to information on monsters, and even nearby water sources.

It's a shame he can't come, but the Guild Master himself was more disappointed than we were; when he found out he couldn't go, he looked like it was the end of the world.

As we passed the Adventurer's Guild, I recalled the Guild Master's despairing expression...

Making small talk, we left the town of Biodasdal and set off for Marx Mountain.

About four hours after leaving the town and heading north.

We passed through the northern mountainous region we had been to the other day and arrived at the foot of Marx Mountain.

"Phew, we finally made it to the foot of the mountain! The real thing starts from here, right?"

"Yeah. Just as Bane said, I can feel several presences from here on that are stronger than in Hest Forest."

"So it's true! By the way, do you already know where the Gold Golem is?"

"The presence is... I can feel it from inside the mountain. I think there's a hidden passage somewhere, and it's beyond that."

"It would have been easier if it were at the summit. So we have to start by looking for a hidden path!"

Speaking of the summit, I am concerned about a monster there with a presence comparable to the Gold Golem.

It seems to be flying and is a single entity, so it's definitely not the Gold Golem.

I'll go check out that monster by myself on the way back, and if I judge it to be a future threat, I'll subjugate it.

With that in mind, we began our ascent of Marx Mountain.

Just like Hest Forest, it's not a place people venture into, so just advancing is a struggle.

We proceed while looking for a place to walk, and also climb steep slopes while being careful not to fall on the exposed rock faces.

"This is so tough!! Just when you think the footing is all uneven and hard to walk on, it suddenly gets all muddy!"

"The monsters that attack are annoying too! If this were a flat path, we should be able to defeat them more easily!"

"What do you want to do? Should I defeat the monsters on the way? At this rate, you'll use up all your stamina before we even reach the Silver Golem."

"I'm fine!"

"We're fine! Aoi-chan and I will defeat the monsters on the way!"

"That's right! It's obvious we'll be relying on you on the way back, so on the way there, we'll be the ones to defeat them!"

The two of them declared that, panting but raising their voices.

I can feel their fighting spirit, but at this rate, they might collapse.

As soon as I find a place where we can rest, I'll have to have them take a break so they don't burn out.

About three hours after starting our ascent.

We've made it to the midway point, but from here, finding the hidden passage will be difficult.

So far, just as they had declared, Ginia and Aoi have been defeating the monsters on the way.

I judged that we don't have the luxury of time for all of us to search for the hidden passage, so I decided to have the two of them wait in a safe place while I searched for it alone.

"You two wait here. I'll go find the hidden passage."

"Ugh... I wanted to find it myself now that we've come this far... but the sun will set, won't it."

"It's frustrating, but I guess searching for a hidden passage is too much for us...!"

"It's just a tedious and difficult task; there's no need for all of us to struggle with it. Well then, I'm off."

Leaving the two disappointed girls behind, I raced up Marx Mountain at a tremendous speed.

Having one arm is a bit inconvenient, but if I use the non-elemental magic [Gravity Magic - Zero], I can move with ease.

Moving at a speed several dozen times faster than when I was with the two of them, I succeeded in finding the hidden path in no time.

All that's left is to return to the two who are waiting and guide them to this hidden path.
