[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 93

Chapter 93

Sushi and the Past

Translator : PolterGlast

Led by Salis, we arrived at a restaurant in an old-fashioned building.

Apparently, this was Salis's number one recommended spot, and she was so excited before we even entered that she looked a little cute.

"You're in a pretty high mood. Is this place that good?"

"...Hmm? You mean I'm in a high mood?"

"Yeah. You're grinning, and you're walking like you're humming along."

"No, that's not—or so I thought, but it might have shown on my face. It's because I can't come here alone."

"Is the shop strictly for groups, no single customers?"

"No, no, that's not it. It's just that, my face is pretty well-known. It's hard to come here alone."

I see, so that's why she can't go.

It makes me think once again that nothing good comes from becoming famous.

As I recalled my own time in Furo Village, I followed Salis and was shown to a private room.

Despite being an old-fashioned shop, the interior was clean, and it was a very nice, tasteful, and calming place.

"This is a nice, atmospheric shop! The Royal Capital has been nothing but glittering places, so a shop like this is very relaxing!"

"That's true! The sparkling places are fun, but they're not exactly restful for the soul!"

"Fufu, so you understand. Flashy things aren't bad, but I also like places with a calm atmosphere. This shop is a great favorite of mine."

Salis said with a laugh.

I know exactly what she means; the atmosphere of this shop is to my liking.

All that's left is to see what kind of food we can eat—.

"This is my first time here too. What kind of food do they serve?"

"Dwayne, don't be in such a hurry. I've already ordered, so you'll know soon enough when it arrives."

Salis's smug face.

Just seeing that expression, I knew that whatever arrived would be delicious.

As we waited while making small talk, what the waiter brought to us was an assortment of colorful, bite-sized fish.

It looks delicious, but... the thing that concerns me is that it's raw fish.

"Is this fish? It's raw, isn't it?"

"That's right. It's a food called sushi. It's made by placing a slice of raw fish on top of rice."

We all looked at each other and froze.

I've eaten raw meat, but never raw fish.

In the first place, you can't catch fish around here, so it's impossible to get fresh seafood.

That's exactly why the seafood, including the crab at the luxury buffet the other day, was such a rarity...

"...Can you really eat it raw?"

"Just trust me and try it. It's so delicious your cheeks will fall off."

If she's going to go that far, then not eating it isn't an option.

It'd be worth it even if I get a stomachache, and I'm sure I'll be fine, since I've never had a stomachache before.

After telling myself that, I picked up a piece of sushi, dipped it in soy sauce, and put it in my mouth.

This is too good!............This is really delicious.

"............It's s-surprisingly delicious. The buffet was amazing, but this might have even surpassed it."

"I-is it that good? If you say so, Graham-san, then it must be."

"The Guild Master, who loves crab, will definitely be hooked."

It seemed my words gave him the final push, as the Guild Master followed my lead and put a piece of sushi in his mouth.

In that instant, a smile I had never seen before appeared on his face, and he ate while holding his cheeks as if to savor it.

"...Th-this is delicious! As expected of a restaurant recommended by Salis, who knows the Royal Capital inside and out!"

"Isn't it? Aren't you two going to eat? If you're not, I'll have them inst—"

""W-we'll eat!""

And so, Ginia and Aoi also began to eat sushi, and we all enjoyed the delicious meal with smiles on our faces.

As I was soaking in the happiness of having eaten something that exceeded my expectations, Aoi, who had taken a breath, asked Salis a question.

"Um, I want to know more about you, Salis-san... can I ask you a question?"

"Hmm? A question for me? I don't mind, but what do you want to know?"

"About you, of course, Salis-san! I heard you're a former S-rank adventurer, but what made you become one in the first place?"

"I don't think it's very interesting. Are you sure?"

"Of course! Most people aren't interesting; I just want to know more about you, Salis-san!"

"Alright. ...My younger sister was kidnapped by bandits. The beginning of my time as an adventurer was when I wiped out those bandits to get her back."

"............Um, is that a true story?"

"It is, but was there something strange about it?"

Salis tilted her head with an expression of someone who truly didn't understand.

Well, for Salis, that's probably normal, so she probably doesn't get what's so amazing about it.

I myself was in a similar situation, so I can understand how she feels.

"It's more than strange! Did you wipe out the bandits by yourself!?"

"Yeah. I didn't even know how to use a sword back then, so it was tough. It was really just a matter of overpowering them with brute force."

"S-so people who become S-rank adventurers really are amazing. Do you have any legendary stories too, Guild Master?"

"Of course not. Salis is the only one with a story that crazy."

"Crazy? My story just now... was it?"

"Please tell us the rest! What did you do after you crushed the bandits!?"

"My feat of crushing the bandits spread, and I was scouted to be an adventurer. But the town I was in had terrible public order. I felt more like a soldier than an adventurer, and I just went around capturing thieves and bandits one after another. Then one day, a one-eyed giant—a Cyclops—attacked the town."

"My brain can't keep up with all of this! I want to ask who you were capturing thieves with, but... I'm more curious about the Cyclops!"

Aoi excitedly urged Salis to continue her story, and I, Ginia, and the Guild Master also listened with great interest to Salis's past.

The string of episodes was almost too good to be told in a private room like this...

I feel like Salis's story of her past was able to provide a satisfaction on par with eating the sushi.
