Chapter 94
The Dungeon
Translator : PolterGlast
The day after our
dinner with Salis.
I was able to get my
body and mind in the best condition, thanks to the delicious food and Salis's
interesting stories of her past.
I did some light
preparation in the morning, and now we're finally heading to the designated
dungeon.
"Good morning,
Graham-san! The exchange matches are finally here! ...Aren't you nervous?"
"Not at all. I
was able to see our opponents yesterday, and I'm sure we won't lose."
"As expected of
Graham! Such confidence!"
"I also think you
can defeat [Crimson Rose] in an instant, Graham-san. I'll leave the strategy
and the outcome of the fight entirely up to you, but what are you thinking as
of now?"
"I'm only
thinking of a complete victory. I was pissed off from being mocked so much, and
I also want to grant the Guild Master's long-held wish of surpassing
Salis."
I've only seen the
leader of [White Phoenix], so I can't promise a certain victory against them...
but from what I saw of the leader, we should be fine.
And Ginia and Aoi are
dependable.
"Heh, I
appreciate it, but don't feel pressured. What I have is just a complex."
"Even so, you'd
be happy if the adventurer you found beat the adventurer Salis prepared,
wouldn't you?"
"Happy wouldn't
even begin to describe it. I want to see Graham-san, the man they mocked so
much, rout every single S-rank adventurer. —But this is just my wish. It's the
kind of showy act that you hate, so you can do whatever you think is best. I
won't complain even if you hold back and lose every match."
"Don't worry. As
I said before, I'm aiming for a complete victory. ...Well, there's still a
chance I'll lose even if I fight seriously, though."
"I declare that
there is absolutely no chance of that. There is no human alive who can defeat a
serious Graham-san!"
The Guild Master
declared that with a boyish grin on his face.
I'm absolutely sure
that's not true, and he's overestimating me, but... it's simply nice to hear
him say that.
"Yes, yes!
There's no way you'll lose, Graham-san!"
"Well... it's
unthinkable! I can't even beat Graham in my imagination!"
"Don't raise the
bar so high for me. It'll be embarrassing if I lose easily."
We arrived at a
dungeon said to be nearby, having that conversation on our way out of the Royal
Capital.
Since it was called a
dungeon, I had expected it to be in a forest or a mountainous region, but...
what came into view was a place like a large town.
"Is there a town
just a few dozen minutes' walk from the Royal Capital?"
"No—this is the
dungeon."
I doubted the Guild
Master's words.
I can't see anything
that looks like a dungeon... or rather, I've never seen a dungeon before, but
it's a place where a large number of monsters come out, right?
"There's a
dungeon in a place as bustling with people as this?"
"Yeah. Adventurers
gather at dungeons. You can also watch the footage from inside on the
magic-powered cameras outside, and it's become a major form of entertainment.
People inevitably gather where there's entertainment like that, businesses
start up, and it gets revitalized. It's pretty inevitable that it becomes like
a town."
So that's how it is.
Looking inside, I can
see how it developed, which is interesting.
"Wow, it's like a
festival! ...Are we really having the exchange matches in a place like
this?"
"It's inside the
dungeon, and Salis said she would turn off the magic-powered cameras, so I
think we'll be fine."
"Whoopee! I'm so
excited for my first dungeon!"
In contrast to Ginia,
who was overwhelmed by the atmosphere, Aoi was enjoying the festival-like mood.
But when it comes to
battle, it's Ginia who gets fired up in a dangerous situation and Aoi who gets
overwhelmed.
They're polar
opposites in many ways, yet they get along extremely well. The two of them are
a real mystery.
"Wahaha! Dwayne,
it seems you didn't run away!!"
As I was enjoying the
difference in their reactions, I was called out to by the unpleasant voice of
Guanza.
A bellowing voice that
makes you want to cover your ears, on top of being needlessly loud.
His attitude is also
terrible; he's definitely hated by the guild employees.
"There's no way
I'd run from a battle I can win. Too bad for you, Guanza. You'll be inflicting
the first defeat on your newly-minted S-class adventurers."
"Wahaha! I'm
impressed you can still run your mouth like that even now! Enjoy your swagger
while it lasts, until the match begins!"
Saying that, Guanza
disappeared into the dungeon with a loud laugh.
He's a truly annoying
guy in every single way.
He was probably
waiting at the entrance just to pick a fight with us, and the fact that he said
his piece and then left is a major point of irritation.
It seems the Guild
Master feels the same way I do, as I can see his fists clenching.
"He's so
infuriating! That Guild Master, Guanza!"
"That idiot man
isn't fighting, is he? If he came out, I'd beat him to a pulp!"
"Is there any way
to drag him out? To be honest, I want to punish Guanza more than [Crimson
Rose]."
"Guanza isn't a
former adventurer, so it's impossible to drag him out. ...However, he should be
watching from up close, so if he were to get caught in the crossfire by
accident—you might be able to teach him a lesson."
"Hoh... That's
good to hear."
I will absolutely
teach Guanza a lesson.
I made that firm
resolve and entered the dungeon, the venue for the exchange matches.
