[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 95

Chapter 95

A Place Full of Mysteries

Translator : PolterGlast

The dungeon seems to be underground, connected to the bottom of the Adventurer's Guild.

There was no need for any reception, and after the Guild Master had a brief word, we were shown into the dungeon.

"Salis-sama is waiting for you in the back."

"Got it. Thanks."

The Guild Master thanked the guild employee who had shown us the way, and we stepped into the dungeon.

What a... strange place.

The entire area is enveloped in a massive amount of magic power, and just by taking a single step inside, I get the impression that I'm in another world.

It's a strange sensation, like my body is floating.

"So this is the inside of a dungeon. It's a very strange place."

"The dungeon is a place of many mysteries. It's been studied for hundreds of years, yet there are still more unknown parts than known ones. Do you feel anything, Graham-san?"

"Yeah. This place has a considerable amount of magic power. If I were to use the surrounding magic power... I think I could use some incredible spells."

"What do you mean by 'incredible spells'!? That's too scary!"

"Please don't ever use them! The dungeon could collapse!"

"I'd kind of like to see it..."

Ginia and Aoi rushed to stop me.

I have no intention of using them, of course, but I do think the inside of a dungeon is the perfect place to test out magic.

"Don't worry. I won't use them. More importantly, what's so strange about the dungeon?"

"First, is that it's okay to die inside the dungeon. I don't know how it works, but even if you die, you're just sent outside the dungeon."

"I've heard that too! Though I've never actually done it!"

"What's that? Is such a thing even possible?"

"Yeah. That's why the dungeon is such a popular place. The catch is... anything you were wearing is left behind, so if you can't go back to get it, you lose it."

That's not a story that can be dismissed as just "strange."

It's a phenomenon that is definitely beyond human understanding.

It's highly likely that this vast amount of magic power is related to it in some way.

"By the way, what happens if one loses an arm, like I did? Does it heal the moment they leave the dungeon?"

"No, anything other than 'death' remains as is. If you leave the dungeon after losing an arm, it won't come back. If you lose your limbs, the correct course of action inside a dungeon is to kill yourself and come back to life."

"Having to die is terrifying, but it's amazing that you would still be okay even if you lose your limbs!"

I was hoping for a moment that my arm might grow back, but I guess it won't, even if I die.

"That's precisely why Salis chose the dungeon as the venue for the exchange matches. It's the only place where you can have a real fight to the death."

"Does that mean the exchange matches are a fight to the death between parties!?"

"That's right. It's because it's okay to kill that you can fight with all your might. In towns with a dungeon nearby, it's pretty common practice to fight in the dungeon if you get into a quarrel."

This really is an incredible world.

The fact that it's okay to go for the kill sounds interesting, but I'm also very scared about whether I'll really come back to life.

I'll try killing myself to test it later.

If I can experience it for myself, then I can fight seriously.

"—Oops, we've arrived while we were talking. This is the custom-made colosseum that was built by remodeling the dungeon."

"They even made something like this? And there are surprisingly a lot of spectators."

"She said she'd turn off the magic-powered cameras, but I guess she can't stop people from coming to watch in person. They're probably people who heard the rumors about the exchange matches."

There are roughly fifty people here, and they're already making a ruckus.

It's harder to fight when other people are watching, but I guess this many is fine.

"Alright, Dwayne and the others have arrived. Now that everyone's here, I'd like to begin the exchange matches. Is that alright?"

"Wahaha! Of course it is! Ever since the day Dwayne ran his big mouth, I've been eagerly waiting for this day!"

"Fuohoho. We are fine as well. ...I hope [White Phoenix] is prepared."

"I am fine as well. I'll just be observing, but I expect to be entertained."

"We're fine too. You can start whenever you're ready."

All the Guild Masters gave their consent, and hearing their voices, Salis gave a pleased, smug grin.

"Fufu, it helps that you're all ready. First, I'll explain the rules. The rules are simple: it's a battle between parties. You will fight until one side is either wiped out or declares surrender. There is no time limit, but if a team fights too passively, I will declare them the loser at my own discretion. The use of equipment is permitted, but the use of magic tools and combat items is prohibited. ...Well, that's about it for the rules. Are there any questions?"

"We're a three-person party. Are we fighting five against three?"

"No, normally we would have the numbers match the smaller party, but... you did say yesterday that you could defeat five opponents, didn't you, Graham?"

Salis gave a provocative smile. She didn't say it explicitly, but she was probably telling me to fight five against three.

"Wahaha! Too bad, Graham! You're weak and outnumbered! You have no chance of winning! I'd be willing to bet money on it!"

Guanza gave a thumbs-down and provoked me with an infuriating look on his face.

He really has a punchable face.

"If you want to bet money, then shall we? One hundred platinum coins on the outcome of the match between us and [Crimson Rose]."

"You think a D-rank adventurer like you has a hundred platinum coins?"

"This sounds interesting. I shall be the witness."

"Salis, are you being serious?"

"What? After all that talk, don't tell me you're getting scared now?"

"...Kuh, kuhkuh, Wahaha! Fine, I'll take that bet! But I'll be taking a full one hundred platinum coins from you!"

"Yeah. And if we win, I expect you to pay up."

By talking back to his provocation, an outrageous bet was made.

I was planning on just injuring him with a stray shot, but a hundred platinum coins would be a heavy blow even for a Guild Master.

It would be bad for me too if I lose, but... I probably won't lose.

But, just so I don't lose my pride or my money, I suppose I'll fight seriously.
