[WN] Emperor's Seventh Son : 3 - 2 Part 3

3-2 Part 3

The Strange Book Says to Save the Girl I Met in the City

— The Maritime City of Naglfar —

Translator : PolterGlast

Part of it was that we departed during the night. By the time morning came and the sunlight had shifted to that of late morning, we had arrived at the maritime city of Naglfar.

This corresponds to the largest trading hub in the Empire. I could see many large ships anchored in the huge harbor. Galleons, carracks, naos, and smaller dhows and schooners; their construction was exactly as I had seen in picture books.

Fuhaaaa... I wondered what would happen at one point... Thank you, Shinza! Right now, I’m so grateful I could agree to any request for Shinza’s sake!”

“Then please use that spirit to make the business negotiation a success.”

“Got it! Ah, how about lunch near the harbor?”

“Come to think of it, I am hungry. Not bad; what can we eat here?”

“Mussel Paella is recommended!”

“Alright, I’m in. Your treat.”

“Of course!”

Then, taking the donkey, we headed toward the coast. It is my first time in this land. We passed through the lively town fragrant with the sea breeze, following the main street.

Mussel Paella—it seems I had underestimated it. Rice is common in the books from another world that I like, but I didn't have many opportunities to eat it in the Imperial Capital.

It’s delicious. The rice had a faint sweetness, and the broth from the shellfish had soaked into it, making it exquisite. We were able to spend a fun lunch where the previous night’s surprise attack felt like a lie.

“Where is the business negotiation?”

“Over there. See, that huge trading house over there is our regular customer.”

“I see. In that case, you'll need a bodyguard.”

“That's a bit of a leap, isn't it? I'll be fine. Let's just pick an inn, and then you take a break, Shinza. Who knows? If you wander around, you might find even more delicious things, you know?”

Mu... There was a shop I was curious about.”

Carral laughed, saying that I was surprisingly gluttonous. After that, we booked a nearby inn, and taking her up on her offer, I decided to start an eating tour.

Open the book.

As I watched Carral enter the trading house, Zirant’s haughty voice echoed in my ear. I wondered what it was, and it turned out to be the addition of a new unreasonable demand.

— Exploration —

  • Lap the Maritime City Naglfar once
  • Completion Reward: EXP 100 / VIT +5
  • “My Crown Prince, broaden your knowledge within the Empire's territory.”

Naglfar is much smaller than the Imperial Capital. If I put my mind to it, I could probably do it within today. I was a little worried about Carral, but... surely there are delicious specialties outside the harbor too.

“Fine, I’m in, Zirant.”

Before I knew it, strolling had become my hobby. I decided to take this opportunity to fully enjoy a walk in a port town far from the Imperial Capital, something I had never seen before.

Salt-grilled barracuda, imported peaches and apples, and sake-steamed scallops were pricey but delicious. However, just as the Tome of the Evil Dragon acknowledged that I had circled half of Naglfar, I was forced to change my plans.

Those guys. The attackers from last night, despite having their weapons stolen and being beaten back, had passed through the main gate of Naglfar town.

“They chased us this far...”

I knew it. Although it couldn't be helped because Carral was there, letting them leave alive was a mistake.

“Where did those guys go!”

“At this rate, we’ll be killed by Boss Haki! Hyamar-sama won’t stay silent either; find them no matter what!”

Of course, I tailed them. They were looking for Carral and me. Unaware that one of their targets was right behind them, they seemed intent on revenge.

“The scary one is the Prince brother... If we offend the Imperial Family, we can’t live in the Empire...”

“Anyway, it’s that woman, Big Bro! Ignore that Shinza bastard, if we don’t deal with Carral first... we’re in trouble!”

As I thought, I cannot sympathize with that. Isn't that entirely just the self-serving logic of a thug? What fault is there in an exemplary Imperial merchant who simply wishes to conduct business honestly?

I was convinced. These guys would never reform. If they survive here, they will repeat similar Yakuza-like business practices in the future. I continued to tail them. To eliminate them before they got close to Carral.

Finding a narrow alley with no foot traffic, I prayed to God that they would pass through there. God, if you have mercy too, give me a chance for purge. Before they harm my friend.

However, there was no God. Or perhaps, God was just a piece of shit.

“Big Bro! That, that! That’s the woman!”

Carral Hez! A chance for redemption! Luck is finally on our side!”

“Besides, she’s alone! Let’s get her!”

Those guys are idiots. It was still before evening, and they impulsively decided on a crime in broad daylight. Now that it’s come to this, I have no choice but to stop them by force.

“Hey, you tough-looking brothers there, I have a request, turn this way.”

Sorry for the usual trick, but I called out to them. At the same time, I scraped up the dry soil at my feet and waited for them to turn around in anger at my commanding tone. The rest is the same as I did to the Abyss Hound. I threw clods of earth at their faces.

“You, buaaah?!”

“That’s dirty, you bastard! B-B-Big Bro, I can’t see!”

Next is a pitfall. I dug a hole with speed invisible to the eye, then went around behind them and kicked them in.

They were swinging their swords blindly, but there was no way they would hit. With this body strengthened by the Tome of the Evil Dragon, this level of work was simple routine, not even enough to make me short of breath.

“Wh-What are you doing! What is this hole! N-No way, are you that guy?!”

“Dirt is falling! Stop! Stop it! You guys, stooop!!”

Perhaps because the falling soil was so massive in quantity, they seemed to think it was an attack by multiple people. I glanced behind me, but neither Carral nor the people of Naglfar had noticed the commotion in this back alley.

“I won’t let you kill Carral Hez. Now, I don’t know the meaning, but let’s name this brute force technique for now. Secret Technique... Alien Heian-Kyo.”

Carral's figure is nowhere to be seen anymore. Without being noticed by anyone, I sealed the attackers in the prison of the earth.

Well, however.

Kuh... This is why this book is... Mu, muuu...!”

I glowed again...

Looking at it, however, it was rapid growth. Perhaps with this, I might be able to win against Brother Georg. Rather than guilt or concern about prying eyes, I was wrapped in the sense of accomplishment of protecting Carral and the satisfaction of growth brought by the Tome of the Evil Dragon.

I did the right necessary evil. Because Zirant acknowledges it, I can slaughter them. I realized that.
