Chapter 132
The Property
Translator : PolterGlast
About a month has passed since we returned to Biodasdal.
Because things were constantly hectic in the Royal Capital, we have been
spending this period at a leisurely pace, completing one request a day,
allowing us to live a fun adventurer life.
Ria, Tricia,
and Maud are also doing well; they are currently staying in a room at
the same inn as me and are working at the tavern after I spoke to the
shopkeeper, Kaila. Incidentally, if she were to hire all three fully,
the tavern's management wouldn't be able to sustain it, so their salary is one
person's worth shared among the three.
I pay for their lodging and food, letting them manage their
other expenses with the money they earn. They seem to have gotten used to this
new life in Biodasdal, and their complexions have improved so much that
one would no longer think they were former slaves.
I thought it would take a little more time, but it looks
like all three are ready to work at the orphanage. I already have an
appointment, so it might be good to go talk to the Guild Master even
today.
"Yaaay! Today was a piece of cake too! It's great that
the area around Biodasdal is peaceful!"
"Though there is an aspect that Graham-san made
it peaceful, you know? The Ogre, the Berserk Bear, and the Gold
Golem. Graham-san defeated all the dangerous monsters that were
around Biodasdal! Since even Bane-san the Dead Priest
seems to have turned over a new leaf thanks to Graham-san, it is truly
thanks to Graham-san that the vicinity of this city is peaceful!"
"Thinking of it that way, we owe it all to Graham!
The Royal Capital was totally rough, after all! My fatigue from the Royal
Capital is completely gone now... so personally, I feel like I'm ready for a
big problem to occur!"
"Don't wish for something like that. Peace is
definitely better."
I gave Aoi a slightly stern warning for saying
something foolish. Although the Royal Capital was in an uproar, the monsters
themselves were weak, and because we noticed the Demon King's Army
early, it didn't turn into a major disaster.
However... as someone who fought against the Demon King's
Army in Fuuro Village, I know from personal experience that the Demon
King's Army is not to be underestimated. I cannot say that a big problem
occurring would be fine, not even as a joke.
"It was just a little joke! More importantly, let's
hurry to the guild to report the request completion! After we're done, it's a
drinking party at the tavern!"
"About that... I have some business with the Guild
Master today, so I'll go report alone. You two go ahead to the
tavern."
"What is it?! A
summons from the Guild Master? Did something really happen?"
"I never said I was summoned. I asked him to make time
for me."
Aoi was
getting excited on her own. Judging from this level of excitement, I can tell
her earlier remark wasn't a joke at all.
"Is it a discussion regarding the orphanage?"
"Yeah, that's right. Ria, Tricia, and Maud
have gotten used to Biodasdal over this past month. We received quite a
bit of money from the Royal Capital expedition, so I'm thinking of moving
forward with it in earnest."
"That is a huge step forward for the good deeds you've planned to do, Graham-san!
I'm really looking forward to it too, and I'll do everything in my power to
help!"
"Thank you, Ginia. So, with that said, please go
to the tavern ahead of me."
"Got it! We'll enjoy ourselves first, so give my
regards to the receptionist!"
Thus, I parted ways with the two and headed to the Adventurer's
Guild alone.
After having a guild staff member guide me to the Guild
Master's office, I knocked and entered the room. Inside the room, just as
before, was the figure of the Guild Master working in a room full of
documents.
"Oh, Graham-san. You're here already?"
"The request finished faster than expected, so I came
directly after finishing. ...Were you in the middle of work?"
"No, no, I was just doing some light confirmation work,
so it's fine. Please, sit on that sofa."
I sat on the sofa as urged by the Guild Master. Then,
he prepared coffee—the kind made just by pouring hot water—and placed it in
front of me, signaling that preparations for our talk were complete.
"Now then, let's get right to it. The matter of the
orphanage is progressing quite a bit. I thought we would start from looking for
land and discussing what kind of building to construct... but a good property
just happened to go up for sale at the perfect time. First, I would like to
tell you about that property, Graham-san."
"A good property? Are you thinking of turning that
property for sale into the orphanage, Guild Master?"
"Yeah. One of the top three noble families in Biodasdal,
the Greatest family, has brought up talk of wanting to sell their house.
The price is reasonably high, but aside from the size of the building itself,
it has a large garden and even an annex. I thought it would be better than
building a new orphanage from scratch."
So he means to turn a house a noble is selling into an
orphanage. True, the cost might be kept lower than building from zero.
"If you say so, Guild Master, I have no objections,
but... a noble's house? Is that an amount I can financially afford?"
"I intend to negotiate with all my might as the Guild
Master on that front. You have taken care of us immensely, Graham-san,
so I will ask the Greatest family to sell it to us cheaply. Besides...
they aren't letting it go because they can no longer afford to live there, but
rather because they want to sell it quickly due to a promotion to the Royal
Capital. Our objective matches theirs, so I think we can buy it cheaply."
"If that's the case, I'll leave it to you to proceed in
the direction of making the noble's house into the orphanage, Guild Master.
Is it okay to prepare the money after hearing the specific details?"
"Yeah, that's fine. Besides, I'm managing the finances
anyway. I'll handle it well, so please trust me. ...With that said, let's go
see the Greatest family's home immediately. There are likely many things
you won't know unless you see them for yourself."
I thought this would be a much earlier stage of discussion,
but things are proceeding much smoother than I expected. I don't know yet if we
will settle on this property, but feeling excited despite my age, I headed to
the Greatest family's home guided by the Guild Master.
