Chapter 142
Cruhamilion
Translator : PolterGlast
I arrived at the place Adwell told me about. That
place was the basement of a completely ordinary inn, and it seems the
adventurer party chasing the Cruhamilion uses this as their base.
After checking that there were people inside, I knocked on
the door, and there was an immediate reply from within. I opened the door
without hesitation and entered the room.
"That's rare. A guest?"
"He has no hostility, so he looks like a guest. Since
you know this place, did the Guild Master tell you?"
Inside were two people: a fat man with no sense of
cleanliness, and an older woman dressed like she worked in a cafeteria. Since
they were chasing a dangerous monster, I had imagined highly skilled
adventurers... but these two are a little different from my imagination.
"As you guessed, I came here after Adwell told
me. Is it correct that you are the adventurers chasing the Cruhamilion?"
"That's right. We are the adventurer party chasing only
the Cruhamilion, 'Monster Hacker'."
"Well, we have a leader besides us, but he's out right
now."
Hmm... so it's a three-person adventurer party including
these two. There is a possibility the leader is exceptionally excellent, but
judging by their presence, these two are upper-lower class at best, so I probably
can't expect much.
"I think it's rude to say, but you don't look like
adventurers. are you really chasing the Cruhamilion?"
"That really is rude! It's true that Mine-san
and I can't fight, but we're pros when it comes to gathering information!"
"That's exactly it. It's no exaggeration to say that
thanks to us, the damage caused by the Cruhamilion has been
minimized."
"If you really are chasing it, then excuse me. In that
case, I want you to tell me information on the Cruhamilion."
After apologizing to the two, I asked for information.
"...Well, that's fine, but why do you want information
on the Cruhamilion?"
"To subjugate it, of course. I came from Biodasdal
seeking strong monsters, and after hearing about the Cruhamilion, I
thought I wanted to defeat it."
"What's with that reason? To think there are still
humans with foolish thoughts like a hero."
"And I'm gonna be blunt with you—you don't look all
that strong either, old man.
Well, we'll tell you what we know, but
we ask that you do it entirely at your own risk."
"Yeah. I'm fine on that point."
It took a lot of back-and-forth to reach this point, but after that, they shared every piece of information they possessed. It was all highly credible and specific
information, and I understood immediately after listening that they were indeed
pros at gathering information, just as they said.
Summarizing the main points of the information I received:
the Cruhamilion has made its den in the northeast forest. However, since
it changes dens in short spans, pinpointing it is almost impossible.
It seems to often leave the northeast forest during the day
to hunt prey, and since it can change its appearance at will, it is difficult
to find. The forest itself seems quite vast, but apparently, it is easier to
find if you search the forest at dusk when it is definitely present.
Incidentally, the most recent sighting was three days ago,
right in the middle of a firmly paved road to the southeast. It was said that a
merchant's carriage was attacked, and the driver, guards, and merchants were
all killed.
"Thank you for telling me the detailed information. As
advised, I'll try searching the northeast forest after the sun goes down."
"You really have to be careful. The reason the Cruhamilion
is considered a threat is that it's not just cunning, but strong."
"If you want, you should try talking to our leader too.
He's in the northeast forest during the day. There's a possibility he's found
its current den."
"Yeah, understood. If I can't find the den, I'll pay
him a visit. Also, I'll come to report when I've subjugated it."
"We want you to come even if you can't subjugate it. We
sleep better if you give us a survival report."
"Got it. Whether I fail or succeed, if I'm alive, I'll
show my face. You really helped me out this time."
I bowed deeply to the two and left the inn's basement. By
the way, regarding the information fee, they refused it, saying they didn't
need it because they were receiving rewards from the guild for investigating.
Personally, the information was worth giving them twenty
percent of the money earned from subjugating the Cruhamilion, but they
firmly refused. Well, it also felt like they didn't think I could subjugate it.
Anyway... with this, I have an idea of the Cruhamilion's
whereabouts. All that's left is to report to Gree and Anne,
avenge the two of them, and sell the Cruhamilion's materials to earn
money.
If its skin can change color at will, there is a possibility
it will sell for a very high price, and since it is considered strong, the
expected value of other parts is also high. This subjugation is for the sake of
the two children, and also for my own sake. I shall fire myself up so that I
absolutely do not fail.
