[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 198

Chapter 198

Off Limits

Translator : PolterGlast

I was prepared to be turned away at the door, but the receptionist from earlier managed to get me an appointment with the Guild Master. It was obvious she didn't harbor good feelings towards me, so it might be a case of having a higher-up deal with a complainer like myself.

This is the Guild Master's office. Please speak directly with the Guild Master for the rest of your discussion.

Understood. Thank you for guiding me.

After thanking the receptionist, I entered the Guild Master's office. I had an image of Guild Master's offices being messy, but the Guild Master's office in the city of Locorante was extremely clean.

Inside that exceptionally clean room was a muscular, bald, middle-aged man. His appearance was intimidating, but his uniform was buttoned all the way up to his chest, and an earnest vibe emanated from every detail about him.

Excuse me. First of all, thank you for letting me through to your office. I am Graham, and I came from Biodasdal.

So you're the old man who wants to enter the ruins. I am Asad, the Guild Master of this Adventurer's Guild.

The bald Guild Master, Asad, stood up from his chair, walked over to me, and held out one hand. I took his hand and returned the handshake.

Since I thought I'd be turned away at the door, being treated so politely was unexpected. I I thought he looked like an earnest Guild Master, but it seems he really is an earnest person.

...I see. A formidable hand.

Hm? A formidable hand?

I can gauge a person's approximate strength just by grasping their hand. Yours is the hand of a master. I can't sense your presence at all, but you are intentionally suppressing it, aren't you?

I thought it was just a handshake, but it seems his objective was to gauge my strength. I didn't particularly intend to hide it, but seeing as he saw through my strength with just a handshake, there's no doubt that Asad is quite capable himself.

It's amazing that you can tell just from a handshake. Does acknowledging me mean I'm allowed to enter the ruins?

No. I cannot grant permission to enter the ruins. Your objective is the Crimsonroid, is it not?

Yeah. That's right, but... why can't I get permission if the Crimsonroid is my objective?

The reason is simple. It would be troublesome if an incident occurred. As long as we don't approach it from our side, the Crimsonroid won't make a move. No matter how much of a master you are, I cannot allow you to touch a taboo.

I see. They know it's nearby and that it's dangerous, but their line of thinking is not to interfere as long as it doesn't attack.

You could say it's an extremely normal way of thinking, but given the current situation where the Demon King's Army is making moves, I can't possibly think that sitting back and watching is the right thing to do. After all, I don't believe the Demon King's Army will abide by human rules. Even if we don't touch it, the Demon King's Army will surely make contact.

It's true that until now, quietly observing would have been the correct choice. However, the circumstances have drastically changed. Humans aren't necessarily the only ones who will make contact with the Crimsonroid.

...? What are you talking about?

The Demon King's Army is mobilizing in various places. If the Demon King's Army makes contact with the Crimsonroid, they will launch an attack without questions asked.

I did recently hear that the Demon King's Army attacked the Royal Capital. However, it's news to me that they are moving in various regions. It's useless to lie just because you want to enter the ruins.

It's not a lie, but... well, I suppose it's not a believable story. Alright. For now, I'll return without trespassing this time. However, you should strengthen your surveillance of the ruins. And if any problems occur, call for reinforcements from Biodasdal immediately. I will come to help.

...If you're going to go that far, I will heighten our vigilance. I appreciate your warning.

Yeah. Please don't take it as nonsense, and be extremely careful.

Without any proof, any further negotiations would just end in vain. Having made that judgment, I decided to give up on subjugating the Crimsonroid.

I wanted to at least catch a glimpse of it since I came all this way, but as long as the city's policy is set, they won't make a move until a problem occurs. I believe the Guild Master is an earnest man, so he will likely heed my warning.

Even if there is some movement, it should be fine if it's only a 3-Star (3) monster. Coming to that conclusion within myself, I decided to leave the city of Locorante.

Traveling for half a day only to yield zero results is rough, and since I can't return to Biodasdal like this, I decided to track down another monster from the wanted posters. The closest one from Locorante is... the city of Brembia, I suppose.

The monster located near the city of Brembia is named the Meteor Demon Bird. Since its hazard level is a 2-Star (2) monster, according to the wanted poster, its threat level is lower than the Crimsonroid.

I highly doubt I will struggle, but I'm very much looking forward to seeing just how strong a 2-Star (2) monster is. Shifting my mindset, I immediately departed from Locorante, setting my sights on Brembia.
