Chapter 67
The Report
Translator : PolterGlast
The next day, I was
even surprised by how light my body felt when I woke up. Anyway, my quality of
life had improved just from changing to a new inn.
First, having a fluffy
bed has improved the quality of my sleep to an unbelievable degree.
At the cheap inn, it
was a stiff-as-a-board futon mattress, so the way my body recovers from fatigue
is incomparable.
Furthermore, having a
shower in the room is a huge blessing, both mentally and hygienically, as I can
now shower whenever I want.
I'm also happy that it
has hot water; there's a clear difference from the cheap inn, which only had a
shared shower with cold water.
Feeling strongly that
moving was the right choice from the very first day, I headed in a good mood to
the front of the tavern where the two would likely be.
It's about a
three-minute walk from "The Camellia Inn" where I'm staying to the
usual tavern.
Since I was able to
move so close, I'll probably be dropping by the tavern for a drink, regardless
of any celebratory dinners.
"Ah, Graham-san!
Good morning!"
"Morning. Ginia,
thanks for everything yesterday."
"I should be the
one thanking you, for coming shopping with me!"
"...Huh? You went
shopping together, just the two of you, leaving me out again!?"
"It wasn't really
shopping; I was just having her help me find a new inn. You said you had a lot
to do, Aoi."
"I did, but if
it's something fun, I'll prioritize it! It's too cruel to not even get a single
word!"
"Alright,
alright. I'll invite you next time something comes up."
"I feel like you
said that last time, too!"
Casually brushing off
the grumbling Aoi, we headed to the Adventurer's Guild.
We don't have a quest
planned for today either; we're just heading to the Adventurer's Guild because
we were summoned by the Guild Master.
I'm assuming it's a
report on the sale of the Berserker Bear materials.
I haven't decided what
to do with the proceeds from the sale yet, but if possible, I'd like it to be
for something charitable...
I haven't come up with
anything, so for now, I'm thinking of just making a simple donation.
We arrived at the
Adventurer's Guild in no time, and with a now-familiar feeling, we were guided
to the Guild Master's office in the back.
After knocking, we
entered the room—and seeing the room, I was so surprised by its transformation
that I couldn't help but cry out.
"The room
is—clean."
"Whoa! It's so
clean now. I feel like there wasn't even a place to step the last time we were
here."
The massive piles of
documents had all been cleared away, and the room was so clean it was
unrecognizable.
It had been in such a
state of disarray that I thought it was impossible to clean, so I was surprised
by that before I even greeted the Guild Master.
"Sorry for
calling you in. I spent a whole day cleaning the room. I'll probably be calling
for you often from now on, Graham-san, and I thought it would be rude to have
you in a room like that."
"You cleaned it
just for that reason? Still... I'm impressed you were able to clean it up from
that state."
"My motivation is
high for various reasons, so cleaning it up was actually pretty easy. My work
as Guild Master is also progressing smoothly, and it's all thanks to you,
Graham-san."
I have no idea how I'm
connected to his cleaning or his work, but well, if it led to him being more
motivated, then that's for the best.
"I have no idea
what I did, but I'm glad if I was of help. ...With that said, I'd like you to
tell me why you summoned me."
"I called you
here to report on the Berserk Bear horde from the other day. Afterwards, I took
some guild employees and went to Hest Forest to investigate. As a result of
that investigation, all the Berserk Bears were confirmed to be gone. Well, I'm
sure you already knew that, Graham-san."
He not only cleaned
his room but even went to investigate?
It seems he really is
more motivated now.
"I knew because I
had confirmed their presence was gone, but it helps that you confirmed it
again. So, will the entry ban on Hest Forest be lifted?"
"That's the plan,
but first we have to pave the roads. So it'll probably be a while before it's
opened. ...However, thanks to you, Graham-san, a dangerous area has been turned
into a safe one. I thought this could truly be called a good deed, so I wanted
to report it to you properly like this. And, as the Guild Master, let me thank
you again. Graham-san, Ginia, Aoi. Thank you so much."
The Guild Master said
that with a serious expression and a deep bow.
I didn't do it to be
thanked, but when he tells me the results like this and thanks me again, it
makes me feel like I really was able to do a good deed, which makes me happy.
"I'm glad if it
truly became a good deed. Your cooperation was a big help, Guild Master. And of
course, Ginia and Aoi too."
"Not at all. For
us, it was mostly like a part of our training!"
"Yeah! We only
managed to defeat one Berserk Bear between the two of us. ...But doing a good
deed feels nice! I was wondering why, since there's no money involved, but
being thanked so sincerely makes me happy too!"
I completely agree
with Aoi.
I can say from the
bottom of my heart that I'm glad we did it, and it makes me want to continue
doing it in the future.
"I was just
helping in my capacity as Guild Master. In my adventuring days, I would have never
done something like this even if it killed me, so I might be genuinely
inspired. ...In any case, that's all for the report on the good deed. And this
next part is the main reason I went to the trouble of calling you here—the sale
of the materials from the Berserker Bear and the other monsters you hunted in
Hest Forest is complete."
The moment the Guild
Master said that, the peaceful atmosphere instantly became tense.
Even though I say it's
not about the money, I can't help but be curious.
As a wave of tension
ran through all of us, including myself, I was strongly reminded of how scary
human nature is.
