[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 77

Chapter 77

Absolute Zero

Translator : PolterGlast

Ginia sliced through five Silver Golems without any trouble.

Aoi, too, managed to destroy five Silver Golems with her fists, albeit in a much more precarious fashion, thanks to my healing magic support.

The remaining Golems numbered eight, and just from watching the fight, I felt that the two of them could probably defeat them on their own, but...

Ginia was out of magic power. Aoi had exhausted her stamina from repeated use of her skill, and was in no condition to continue fighting.

"You two fought well to get this far."

"Graham-san, we'll leave the rest to you!"

"Haaah, haaah. The rest is up to you. I'll watch your fight while I rest."

After patting their shoulders in praise, I walked towards the Golems in the back.

All I've done so far is find the hidden passage and use healing magic on Aoi.

Even though I was the one who suggested this "good deed," I've done practically nothing this time.

I psyched myself up, rolling my shoulders, and approached the Golems that were devouring ore in the back.

Even while the ten Golems in the front were fighting, these Golems hadn't moved a muscle, acting as if they didn't notice.

Perhaps because they are inorganic, they lack a sense of camaraderie; not a single one moved to help its comrades.

Even as I approached to within visual range, they continued to completely ignore me. When I drew my katana and brandished it... they all turned towards me at once, just like the previous Silver Golems.

The ones eating silver ore in the front were the Silver Golems, and the one eating gold ore at the very back was the Gold Golem.

The Gold Golem had a crest-like pattern on its core, and it had a somewhat beast-like form, walking on four legs.

Unlike the mechanically moving Silver Golems, its movements were fluid, making it look like a completely different species of monster.

"I suppose I'll start by defeating the Silver Golems."

I muttered that quietly and then held my left hand out in front of me.

Gravity magic would work, but I decided to use a different spell to defeat the Silver Golems.

"[Absolute Zero]."

[Absolute Zero] is an ice-attribute spell, a combination of water and wind-attribute magic, capable of freezing a wide area in an instant.

While being careful not to let the magic reach Ginia and the others behind me, I had it spread along the cave floor and froze the Silver Golems all at once.

I had intended to stop their movements in this state and then deliver the finishing blow, but it seems their cores were frozen solid, and they were already dead.

Controlling my magic is truly difficult. Just like with the gravity magic, I ended up finishing the fight before it even began.

Freezing them will likely lower the quality of their materials, so I shouldn't use ice-attribute magic on the Gold Golem.

Ignoring the frozen Silver Golems, the four-legged Gold Golem charged at me.

If it were a living creature, it would have surely fled in this situation. Its actions, despite its beast-like movements, showed that it was an inorganic Golem.

As I thought that, I let it get as close as possible and then activated my next spell.

"[Gravity Magic - Increase]."

The opposite of [Gravity Magic - Decrease], this spell increases the gravity affecting its target.

It is similar to [Gravity Magic - Impact], but [Gravity Magic - Increase] is easier to adjust and is a spell specialized in stopping movement.

The Gold Golem, which had been moving nimbly, suddenly slowed down. I continued to apply gravity while observing it.

Crushing it would defeat the purpose, so I carefully increased the load, and after confirming that it was completely immobile, I approached the Gold Golem, which was desperately resisting the gravity.

And then, I aimed for the defenseless Gold Golem's core and cleanly extracted it with my katana.

The moment I removed the magic core, I released the spell.

Unable to maintain its life, it collapsed, but the outer shell of the Gold Golem remained beautifully intact.

I had been particular about how I defeated it so that it would sell for a high price, and as a result, I was able to finish it off in a state where it looked like it could move at any moment.

I'm sure if I were to re-embed the core I just extracted, it would start moving again. I can expect a good price for this.

Grinning to myself, I also released the magic that had been freezing the Silver Golems.

Even after being released, they remained frozen solid, but... I'll just leave these Silver Golems as they are.

I can't carry them back anyway, and I can just leave them frozen and come back for them later if I feel like it.

The biggest problem from here is... how to carry this Gold Golem back to Biodasdal.

It would be a shame to dismantle it, but it's about four meters long, and carrying it would be difficult even for me.

It can't be helped. I'll have to cut it at the joints and dismantle it so I can carry it.

I'll try to see if I can reassemble it when I get back to the city, but for now, I'll dismantle the Gold Golem.

Ginia and Aoi are waiting, so I quickly dismantled the Gold Golem into a portable size with my katana and then returned to the two of them.
