Chapter 208
Dungeon City
Translator : PolterGlast
When I told Ginia and Aoi about the Guild
Master's story, they replied with an immediate "We want to go." We
had received an invitation, and both Ginia and Aoi were
enthusiastic. At this point, there was no longer an option not to go.
And so, we informed the Guild Master that we would be
heading to the Dungeon City, and steadily proceeded with our departure
preparations. Then, after receiving a reply from Lynette, we decided to
set off for the Dungeon City.
We were heading there of our own free will, but we proceeded
strictly under the guise of "going because we were called." Due to
such circumstances, Lynette arranged the round-trip carriage to the Dungeon
City for us.
If it were just me, it would be easier to run, but with Ginia
and Aoi here, a carriage is overwhelmingly easier. We could arrive just
by chatting without having to think about anything, after all.
It's also extremely appreciated from a financial standpoint; not only the carriage fee, but the accommodation fees at
the transit point, the food expenses along the way, and even our living
expenses during our stay in the Dungeon City would all be covered by Lynette.
It was truly a red-carpet treatment. I had made a fortune from the materials of
the Meteor Demon Bird and the Crimsonroid, but I still wanted to
avoid unnecessary expenses.
"Yay! It's a super fluffy carriage! The Guild Master of
the Dungeon City is so generous!"
"Even if the road is a bit rough, our bottoms won't
hurt in this carriage. So... how long will it take to reach the Dungeon City?"
"I heard there's one transit point, so I think we'll
arrive by tomorrow. I can't say for certain since the details of why we were
called aren't clear, but for now, we're scheduled to stay for a week."
"A week, huh...! That's short compared to the Royal
Capital!"
"If we stay too long, Lia and the others will
get noisy. They were saying they wanted to tag along right up until the last
minute this time too, after all."
Persuading Lia and the others was tough this time as
well. It's a good thing they've regained their energy, but lately they've been
a bit too energetic.
Whenever they have free time, the three of them—Lia, Anne,
and Gree—are swinging swords in the courtyard. Tricia and Maud
are keeping a close eye on them, so it seems they are properly doing what they
need to do, and well, there aren't any problems.
However, at this rate, it feels like they might truly become
adventurers. For Lia, the presence of Gree and Anne, who
are the same age, must be huge. Including the fact that she has started acting
a bit spoiled.
"The little ones have been even more energetic lately!
I'm being made to help them out almost every day!"
"It seems they adore you as their master, Aoi."
"They're definitely just looking down on me! They
actually ask Ginia about her schedule properly!"
"I'd be happy if they treated me like they treat you, Aoi-chan...
Do I have a scary aura or something?"
"Isn't it the opposite, that you're too kind? When someone
treats you casually, it's easier to treat them casually back. Because you're
kind, Ginia, I think Lia and the others are being considerate of
you."
"What's that! You're making it sound like I treat the
little ones carelessly!"
...Rather than "sound like," I think you actually
do treat them carelessly. You often send them on personal errands, after all.
Well, I don't think it's good for everyone to be too kind,
so I want Aoi to keep interacting with them just like this. Among us,
she's overwhelmingly the person they can interact with without having to walk
on eggshells. Upon boarding the carriage, we engaged in such conversation as we
departed, setting our sights on the Dungeon City.
Rocking in the carriage for a day with a transit point in
between. Finally, the Dungeon City came into view.
"Is that the Dungeon City!? What an amazing
gate! It's like a fortress!"
"It seems there's a dungeon inside the city. It's
apparently not a gate to protect from external enemies, but a gate to keep
monsters from getting out."
"Wow! Its purpose is the exact opposite of normal,
which is interesting."
While being overwhelmed by the towering city gate—which
looked larger and sturdier than the one in the Royal Capital—we were let
straight through into the city. Under the pretext of being called by the Guild
Master, Lynette, it seemed we could bypass the entry inspection and go
inside.
"Being able to enter without lining up makes me feel
like a VIP!"
"We are guests, so I suppose we are somewhat
important. Just don't act all high and mighty."
"I don't want to hear that from you, Graham! You
have this intimidating aura that makes people cower!"
"No, that's not true... probably."
Ever since I left Furo Village, I've basically been
looked down upon, so there's no way I should be giving off an intimidating
aura... or so I'd like to think. I'm intentionally suppressing my presence,
too.
"More importantly, I wonder what the summons from Lynette-san
is about? Could some incident be occurring?"
I had actually been quite bothered by it, so being brushed
off with a "more importantly" shocked me a little, but I replied to Ginia's
words.
"This is something we won't know until we ask directly.
It seems the Guild Master hadn't heard the reason either."
"Not knowing the reason is a little scary! Just looking
at the city, it doesn't seem like any incident is happening, though!"
Just as Aoi said, the city was completely peaceful... actually, it was bustling, and it certainly didn't look like any incident was occurring. Having recently seen the panic in the city of Locorante, it appeared all the more like peace itself. Well, we'll probably be able to ask about the matter soon enough, so let's head to the Adventurer's Guild without thinking too deeply about it.
