Episode 31 Good Orc (2)

The orc chieftain's head rolled onto the floor.

As everyone stood there, mouths agape, unable to comprehend the situation, Yappy, who had been sitting on top of Hari's head, was the first to react.

-Enemy recognized. Initiate annihilation.

Yappy's robotic limbs uncoiled steel wires. The four wires were whipped through a perfectly calculated trajectory.

"Y, you killed the Chieftain, how──!"

The orcs couldn't even express their anger. For something had sliced through their heads and thus their tongues stopped.

-Tuk duk duk!

The severed heads of the orcs fell like neatly cut cube steaks.

"Enemy! Kill!"

"Kill them!"

The orcs in the camp charged in unison. Leon shouted,

"Raise your shields! Form a circle and block their charge!"

Leon's words forcefully awakened the hunters, including Gu Dae-sung. They instinctively raised their shields to block the orcs' physical attacks.

"Keuk!"

"W- what the hell is this...!"

"I don't fucking know!"

The orcs, whose chieftain and kinsman's heads had been blown off without warning, were enraged and tried to kill the hunters.

"Raise your shields higher, they are not just for protecting yourself, protect the comrades' side next to you as well!"

"Ugh...!"

"B, block!"

The hunters protected each other with their shields. But it was only a game of time.

'Shit! Too strong!'

‘We're only D-class hunters! How are we supposed to win when their numbers are this many?!'

Orcs.

A naturally-born fighting race where even the weakest orc was comparable to a class C hunter.

With their large stature and bulging muscles, their mass was beyond the reach of these hunters. Normally, it would be a miracle if they even withstood the first charge.

"Uh?"

Gu Dae-sung realized: 'Yeah. How are we holding off the orcs' charge?'

It was strange. The hunters here were the lowest-ranked hunters who shouldn't be capable of going one-on-one against orcs. Including himself.

But strangely, he wasn't afraid. Just having Leon beside him brought him a sense of reassurance, and he felt like he could accomplish anything.

At that moment, several hunters saw a system message floating in the corner of their vision.

──The level of army members is too low. Many buff traits are not applied.

'Crazy...!'

What the hell. This is a freaking cheat!

It happened sometimes. The unique hunter profession called Commander was one of those.

Innate leadership and management skills... and the ability to buff their team. In a Red Gate, a large-scale battlefield, hunters couldn't keep track of each other, so it was an important profession.

However, people with that profession lacked combat capabilities, and it meant that they had to be deployed in the rear. So how could a man like Leon, who had such powerful combat capabilities, possess such skills?

"Raise your shield! Push back! Thrust your sword into the gaps!"

The voice of the knight-king with the Lion's Heart struck the heart like thunder.

The mere sound of it filled them with a surge of courage and a sense of invincibility.

If we are with him... no, with him, we will be victorious.

The unsubstantiated confidence swelled and they actually pushed back the orcs' momentum. Their swords pierced through the tough skin of the orcs as an unbelievable burst of power pulsated within them.

"Keugh huk!"

"G, God of Warriors...!"

The orcs were dying. They screamed their last words, calling out to their god. But the Lionheart King would not tolerate that.

"Hah! How dare these vile beasts call upon a god! Cut off their tongues, decapitate their heads, and desecrate their false god!"

Leon, shaking with fury, could not keep still and summoned the divine Stallion.

The pure white steed took form, bathed in divine light, and its eyes reflected the greenish skin of the orcs.

-Gurrrrrrrr!

It roared. Eyes blazing with rage, it charged through the dust, carrying its greatest ally with it.

"What the...!"

"Wha-!"

The orcs were taken aback by the shadows cast over their vision. Stallion landed on the backs of the orcs at once and delivered a sharp hind kick.

"Snap!"

It was a nice jawbone shot. The orc with a broken neck fell limply to the ground.

"Let's go, Stallion!"

Summoning his holy lance, Leon began to slaughter the orcs that surrounded the hunters. The rider of the divine horse pierced the orcs with horrifying penetrating power, impaling and dismembering them.

It took less than ten minutes for the 130 orcs in the orc camp to be obliterated.

"Well done, Stallion."

-Kurrgh!

Stallion disappeared, leaving behind a message to call it again if he spotted more orcs.

Around Leon were the bodies of the slaughtered orcs and the unharmed hunters.

"Shout out your cry of victory! For an honorable victory!"

"Whoa, whoaa......."

"Waaaah?"

The hunters were dumbfounded. They couldn't believe that they had won against over a hundred orcs and not a single one of them was injured.

"This is strange... Were orcs normally this weak?"

"No, it was completely different from normal. There was an unusual surge of power."

Even those who didn't look at the messages felt it instinctively. That some mysterious power had surged through them.

And they didn't need to be told the source.

"Is he... a Commander-type?"

"No, I heard from the Golden Lion Guild that he single-handedly destroyed the Yakt Spinner."

"Then, he is a combatant, but he has such buff skills? Is that possible?"

"......King Lionheart. I heard he's the king of knights."

They suddenly realized who they were looking at.

King Lionheart.

A knight with unprecedented military strength, and a commander who has won countless battles.

Even before he became the Lionheart King, he was a renowned War Knight, a protector of the borders who slaughtered numerous orcs.

"Uh... Your Majesty."

Hari approached Leon with a blood-stained face. Her sword was also caked with thick orc blood.

"What is it, Hari?"

"Uhm, why did you... do this?"

At those words, Leon was genuinely puzzled.

"Is there something wrong with killing orcs?"

"Huh? But the quest is......."

"Helping orcs to complete a quest? That is madness. I'd rather throw myself into a pit of fire than to assist those green beasts."

Leon's hatred for orcs was bottomless.

""They are beasts not worthy of respect. Their existence itself is a blight, and they are not worthy of life."

"Honor? Warriors? There is no such thing as honor in their warfare. They may be brave, but how can the ferocity of a beast be compared to the valor of a knight?"

"Do not treat them as you would people. They are disgusting beasts. They don't even deserve to be alive."

'R, racist.......'

Hari vowed never to tell him that there were orc survivors on Earth.

She could see all too clearly how this prickly orc racist would react to the sight of even a single orc survivor.

"Uhm, why do you hate them so much?'

"They can't build a civilization. It's because they're worms who spend their lives only in war and fighting. What kind of culture is going to blossom from a bunch who are dependent on plunder? They can never harmonize with other races."

"I see......."

And he was right. Over the course of 30 years, quite a few orcs had crossed over to Earth, but every single one of them had ended up in Majin.

The proliferation of orc gangs in the United States was still a plague on American society, and orcs were involved in hemp businesses and massacres in South America.

Since murder and violence were the signature traits of the race, they were never able to integrate into civilized society.

However, because their reproduction ability was superior to that of humans, countries around the world were suffering from their ever-increasing voting rights and cultural differences.

So much so that a new term was born: orc-phobia.

“Then… how do you plan to close the gate?”

"Kill all the orcs in this gate! Every last one!"

Hari's shoulders jolted at the declaration, and Yappy hopped onto her head.

"Sir Spinner. Anything to report?"

-Reconnaissance report. Field area measurement completed: 2.7 million square kilometers. Fifty-six orc camps found. Orc numbers: approximately 4,650.

"Four, four thousand..."

Hari threw up her hands. Even if they had taken one side in the war to achieve victory, the number was still staggering.

By choosing the option of killing all the orcs, the difficulty level of the gate was no longer yellow, but scarlet.

"Hmm... For such beastly creatures, that's quite a small number."

"That, that is a small number?"

"Yes. In the Kingdom of Beasts, a single orc faction was basically a hundred thousand."

Considering the nature of gates, this was a monstrous number.

"Your Majesty... do you really intend to kill them all? That... would take too much time, to say the least."

"Hmm... I am sure I could do it all by myself, but it would not be right to waste too much of my time on those beasts."

Yet Leon does not back down. He was determined to kill every last orc in this place, no matter how much time was required.

-Your Majesty. I have a suggestion.

It was then. Yappy said so in a mechanical voice.

"What is it, Sir Spinner? I shall be all ears to your suggestion."

Yappy then flashed a hologram through its camera eye.

A map of the area, created by launching an observation device for mapping into the sky right after the battle ended.

It showed the headwater of the river that cut through the orc settlements.

* * * *

Nighttime. Three figures emerged at the upper stream of the river, taking advantage of the nighttime when the orcs were sleeping.

-Krig! This place. Point.

Yappy jumped down from the top of Hari's head and pointed upstream with its sharp limb.

"Hmm. I'll leave it to you, Sir Spinner."

The Yakt Spinner plunged into the flowing river and utilized its energy.

Initiating core overload. Power at 99.9%.

The Yakt Spinner began to run the core inside it at full throttle. The cooling system was shut down as it mobilized its energy, and then a plume of smoke rose.

Core overloaded. Cooling system failing. Fuel rods rapidly aging. Core meltdown. Eject fuel rods.

The Yakt Spinner opened the carapace to eject the fuel rods inside.

Pong! Something popped up. And it resembled something.

"Mmm, it looks like poop.........."

"Don't speak dirty words."

It wasn't wrong.

The source of power for the Yakt Spinner was a compact, built-in nuclear reactor.

The high output of electricity generated by the reactor provided an infinite amount of power to move the Yakt Spinner.

As it was a reactor, it had fuel rods. And a self-destruct sequence that in the event of an emergency, would allow the reactor to overload and cause nuclear fusion.

The Yakt Spinner was only halfway through the self-destruct sequence.

It had overloaded the reactor to the point of core meltdown and ejected the fuel rods when the critical level was reached.

The extremely dangerous radioactive materials inside the fuel rods, including cesium-137, iodine-131, stannium-90, and plutonium-238, were released along with the fuel rods, contaminating the river.

The river that all the orcs in the area use for drinking water became poisoned with radioactivity.

"Y- Your Majesty, we are safe under your protection, but... is it all right?"

"What do you mean?"

"That... according to chivalry, isn't this kind of thing cowardly?"

Leon smirked at Hari's question. He didn't look the least bit remorseful for carrying out a plot that even Hari would consider cowardly.

"What kind of chivalry is there against beasts? If I can kill one more, I'll use even a long-ranged weapon."

"Eek......."

"Listen, Hari, and Sir Spinner. Dealing with the green beasts is not a war or a duel."

Leon spoke in a voice filled with endless hatred and contempt.

"It's about eradicating beasts. What hunter cares about honor when he hunts vermin?"

"Umm... t, there may be good orcs, too."

"Ha...!"

As if he had heard something impossible to imagine, Leon let out a sneer and spoke the immutable truth, as if to enlighten the foolish and clueless,

"The only good orc is a dead orc."
