Volume 1

Chapter 63

I Managed to Save the Adventurer

Translator : PolterGlast

Hadira's  POV

───What the!?

I stopped polishing my glass due to the unusual situation and looked up.

The adventurers I had turned into Robs with the Cursed Equipment, the Black Belt, were being reduced in number at an incredible rate!?

What's going on... Although they couldn't compare to the group of Robs I've been creating for many years, the adventurers transformed into Robs were all monsters that exceeded the [Danger Level] A! How could they be so easily defeated!?

I should have taken care of all the adventurers I needed to be wary of. I had Tekiru gather information, and there were four adventurers to be wary of───the veteran rank 5 adventurer, Faith, the two newly arrived white-ranked adventurers, and Tekiru himself who gathered this information───I personally devised countermeasures for those guys.

First, I had the veteran adventurer, Faith, wear the Black Belt Equipment and turn him into a Rob, I sent Tekiru to the underworld myself, and I had Tekiru bury alive the white-ranked one who was good at physical combat. The only remaining concern was the white-ranked mage, but Elethea-sama had assimilated with her as a vessel, so there was no need to worry about her, and my plan should have been perfect.

However, the reality is not as it seemed.

Is there someone out there who is so skilled that they can easily defeat the A-rank equivalent Robs in the town? What the heck?

Should I go out...? No, wait. The group of Robs I created will arrive soon.

It's a large army of monsters, each with a [Danger Level] of S. With [Super Regeneration] that allows them to regenerate instantly as long as their soul exists, and [Ultimate Energy Drain] that steals the life force of anyone they touch───each individual has these two powerful skills. Surely even the skilled person who is defeating Robs in the town now wouldn't be able to stand up to them.

I should just stay underground and watch the situation unfold. That's all it takes to end everything.

But if things don't go according to plan, then───

□□□

I was currently going around the town, taking out any adventurers I came across.

Actually, I wanted to ask if they knew where Tekiru was, but all the adventurers I met were turned into Robs and were not in a state to talk. There is a way to force them to talk by overpowering them, but these guys are annoyingly fast.

I have to be careful not to kill them in order to talk to them, but since they're so fast, I have to use a lot of force. And if I use too much force, I end up crushing them... It's so troublesome, so I'm just killing any adventurers who are harming people without question.

Well... even though it's not their own will, I can't just leave those who are harming people alone. I can't capture them with my abilities... and there seems to be no way to turn them back... well, I guess it can't be helped.

"……………"

And besides, weren't these guys also working with Tekiru? In other words, they allowed me to be buried alive. And they tried to kill Kakyoin-san, and as for Akana-san, they tried to do something more cruel than killing her, right?

They tried to harm people. ───If that's the case, even if they're harmed───even if they're killed, they won't complain, right?

I crushed the last adventurer (Rob) I could see.

"Alright"

I raised my head.

With this, Akana-san's request has been fulfilled. Shall I go and look for Tekiru this time?

"O-Oi, look over there!"

"───?"

Just as I was about to do so, someone who had climbed onto the wall surrounding the town shouted out. What is it?

I wondered if it had something to do with Tekiru, so I jumped onto the wall as well.

And what I saw from there was───

"………Oh"

───A horde of skeletons and zombies.

Are those... Robs too? Somehow, their presence or aura is completely different from ordinary Robs.

Haa... wait a second. Just when I was finally going to go look for Tekiru, this... Seriously, wait a second.

Robs are nothing more than a number, so defeating them is just a chore. It's fine during normal times, but I don't really want to deal with them right now.

"………"

But, I told Akana-san that "I can defeat Robs." If I don't go and defeat them now, she'll definitely blame me for not doing so. That would be troublesome too.

"Sigh..."

I have no choice, let's do it.

Chapter 62

I Met Akana-san

Translator : PolterGlast

I asked Akana-san about Kakyouin-san.

"Runa-san..."

However, as soon as I asked about Kakyouin-san, Akana-san's face clouded over.

"Um, Kushina-san..."

"───?"

"Actually..."

□□□

I listened to Akana-san about what happened before I arrived.

"I see... So, do you have any idea where Kakyouin-san went?"

"I think Kushina-san might have more of a clue than I do..."

"Well, even if you say that..."

I wracked my brain, thinking about where Kakyouin-san would go in this situation.

It's so unexpected that Kakyouin-san would get seriously injured protecting someone. And it's also surprising that she lost to someone in a battle of wits.

I have no idea where Kakyouin-san would go in this state. At least, I'll try to convince Kakyouin-san that I've searched for her. Kakyouin-san is also at fault for cutting off the connection. Actually, since I can't figure this out any further, thinking about it is just a waste.

Right now, I just want to vent the anger burning inside me.

"Alright, I understand the current situation. Thank you, Akana-san."

"Eh, oh, yes. Don't mention it..."

Akana-san's words seemed strangely hesitant... Well, maybe it's just my imagination.

"Well, I'm off then. Be careful, Akana-san."

"W-Wait, Kushina-san!!"

Just as I was about to leave, Akana-san suddenly stopped me with a loud voice.

"───? What's wrong?"

"Well, umm...…"

"………?"

She was so confident when we met before, but now she's so much weaker. It's strange.

"………Kushina-san, what are you going to do from now on?"

"───? From now on? Well..."

Isn't it true that adventurers are rioting in this town right now? If I ask those adventurers, I think I'll be able to find out where Tekiru is now, and I was thinking of heading to where the commotion is happening.

"Umm, Kushina-san, if you don't mind..."

Akana-san brought both hands to her chest and squeezed them tightly.

"If you don't mind, could you please stop the adventurers who are rioting now?"

She looked me straight in the eye and quietly threw words filled with deep emotion at me.

Me? Stop the rioting adventurers? Well, I was going to meet them anyway, so it's fine.

"Alright, sure."

"R-Really!?"

"Yeah."

Akana-san's face brightened immediately.

"So, what exactly do you want me to do?"

"Ah, right! Well, you see..."

When I asked how, Akana-san looked back at the place where I had punched the Rob a moment ago, as if she were being pulled by her hair.

"………I don't care how. If there are any adventurers harming the residents, stop them without question. You can even kill them if you have to."

Without looking at me, Akana-san replied calmly.

"Got it. By the way, how do you know why the adventurers are rioting? If there's a mastermind, I think it would be faster to kill them."

"………"

Akana-san turned her face back towards me, but her expression was dark.

"I don't know. Like the adventurer earlier, I have absolutely no idea why something like this happened. Even Tekiru, who should know the situation, disappeared without doing anything..."

Apparently, Akana-san doesn't have any idea of the cause. But───

"Wait a minute. Who are you talking about when you say 'the adventurer earlier'?"

"Huh? Who... didn't you just punch it yourself?"

"───? I punched a Rob, though. That was definitely a Rob, no matter how you look at it."

"Huh?"

"Huh?"

There's some kind of discrepancy between Akana and me. What's going on?

That one, with its skin color and appearance, was definitely a Rob, right? I've been hunting Robs so often lately that I can't be mistaken.

"W-Wait a second. Kushina-san, are you saying that man was a Rob...?"

"Because, first of all, have you ever seen someone with skin like that and bulging blood vessels? Its eyes were completely gone too, and most importantly, it was trying to bite you, Akana-san."

"………"

Akana-san put her right hand to her chin and seemed to be thinking deeply.

"……Come to think of it, Runa-san also said something like Division Rob when she saw Faith... Could it be... Division───Rob? Such a thing as... a living human being turning into a Rob...?"

She's muttering to herself, seeming to have figured something out... Huh? Wait, are the rioting people now adventurers who have turned into Robs?

"Is there any way to turn them back?"

"───! ………No, I've never heard of such a case before..."

"I see. So there's no way to turn them back."

"………"

Then, Akana-san lowered her head again.

"So, for now, I guess I'll just go and stop them by force, even though I don't know the cause?"

"───! Ah, yes!"

When I asked to confirm, Akana-san came back to her senses and made a serious face for a moment, then nodded in affirmation. And then, she looked at me earnestly.

"Please, Kushina-san. Please save this town."

"………"

Normally, I should say "Yes" or "Okay" here, and I usually would───but to "save the town," it's too grand a request for me to answer immediately.

Rather, it's impossible for me.

"I can't do something as grand as that."

"Eh...?"

"If a person asks me to save him and I say okay, then I have to help him every time───and I have to save him from life too. And I don't know if that act is really for the good of that person. How far I should go depends on the other person's standards. I can't accept such an uncertain word. That's why I can't agree to that request."

To save something is to take responsibility for it. No matter how unreasonable you are told, once you say you will "save" something, you have to accept it. I don't want that kind of trouble.

Therefore, I cannot do the act of saving.

"………"

"But, if it's just defeating the Robs, I can do it."

"───!"

"I'm off, Akana-san. I can't save the town, but I can at least defeat the enemies. That's all I can do... if it's just that much, I will do it. So───"

I raised one hand.

"I'm off now."
