[WN] Three Skills : Volume 1 Chapter 10

Volume 1

Chapter 10

I Went Out of the Forest

Translator : PolterGlast

Runa's POV

Even after defeating the beetle, more and more insects kept coming. After nearly dying several times just from the beetle, even more kept coming.

Yet, he continued to face them with such glee. As expected, he was torn to pieces again and again. His body was split in two by the giant mandibles of an insect like a stag beetle, he was rammed by a giant Atlas beetle, and he was cut in half by the horn of a giant Hercules beetle that came from behind───he was taking attacks that would instantly kill a normal person several times.

It made no sense. The strength of the creatures in this forest. And the fact that he kept going towards them even though he was on the verge of death over and over again.

It made no sense───it made my head hurt so much that I couldn't understand.

Still, there was one thing I realized───

"He's crazy."

□□□

"Haha, hahaha, hahahahaha!!!"

It's fun! It's so much fun───!!

The shells of the giant insect-type creatures like stag beetles and Caucasus beetles are about as hard as the previous rhinoceros beetle───but since they have different shapes, they can perform various attacks. The stag beetle cut me in half with its proud pincers, the Caucasus beetle crushed me with its multiple horns, and the Hercules beetle cut me in half with its long horn.

Even while I was taking the charge of the Caucasus beetle and trying to overpower it, it was a one-vs-many battle. The Hercules cut my body in half with its horn without any hesitation, while I was only focused on the Caucasus, and then I was crushed by the Caucasus, and so on───I experienced 'death' many times.

But I don't die.

I can throw myself into a life-threatening battle without risking my life.

What should I call this sense of superiority, this no-risk? No, there are no words to describe it.

Oh... it's fun. I wish it would never end. I wish I could spend my whole life in a place like this.

Runa's POV

...It's overwhelming. At this point, I even feel refreshed.

Kushina was now standing among the large number of giant insect corpses that had fallen.

"Haah, haah... Phew..."

Maybe he was tired from fighting the insects that kept coming, even though he defeated them. The fact that his face seemed to be smiling was probably just my imagination.

While watching him, I had a question. ───No, I had felt a sense of incongruity from the beginning, but I had simply dismissed it as him being 'strange'.

Why did Kushina obey me so easily?

If you think about it carefully, it's not just strange, it's impossible.

Is there anyone who can say "Understood" when a complete stranger suddenly tells them to "protect me"? ───There's no way.

That's right, there's no way───yet, he accepted it without question. Why? ───There must be something behind it.

How could I have been so blind to such a simple thing? Was I so flustered by being suddenly taken to a different world? No, that's an excuse.

But thanks to Kushina's carnage, I've woken up.

Since he has such power, there's no way Kushina would listen to me. Because he could just suppress me with his overwhelming power.

But he didn't. He happily went towards the monsters, and he didn't even make a move to fight me.

There's only one conclusion that can be drawn from that.

Probably Kushina is wary of the 'skill' I possess.

We spoke in Japanese from the moment we met. In other words, we both recognize that we are in the same situation.

And Kushina said, ───"I don't have any combat-oriented skills."

From his point of view, he would think, "If I can get such power with non-combat-oriented skills, I could get even greater benefits with combat-oriented skills." And there's an 80% chance of getting a combat-oriented skill (according to the goddess). It's not strange for him to think that I have a combat-oriented skill and can wield a stronger power than Kushina (himself).

I haven't revealed my skills to him yet. This is a big advantage.

He's afraid of me. Otherwise, why would he reveal his information (skills)?

...Alright, let's do it. Until we get through this forest, I'll deceive him───!

"......Kakyoin-san?"

"Hya!?"

I made a strange voice because he called out to me from behind so suddenly.

"W-W-W-What... ! D-Don't call out to me from behind so suddenly!"

"Eh? Ah, um, okay."

Kushina looked like he wanted to say something, but he quickly returned to his usual cheerful smile.

I'm not in the right state of mind for that. My face is probably red.

"It's completely unbecoming of a gentleman to speak from behind a woman who's deep in thought! As my bodyguard, you should at least maintain proper gentlemanly manners!"

"Is that how it is?"

"That's how it is!"

"Hmm, understood."

"Good grief..."

I played with my hair with my index finger, openly showing my dissatisfaction.

But since I couldn't stay in this place forever, I started walking.

"Come on, let's go. I want to get out of this damp place as soon as possible. Make sure you protect me, Kushina (bodyguard). Or else, I won't let you off easy."

"Yes ma'am."

When I said so while brushing my hair, Kushina immediately ran ahead and started walking again in front of me.

After that, we encountered many animals and insects. A snake as thick as a tree trunk, a spiky mole with a form that was completely carnivorous except for its shape, flies that would ram into me as bullets and self-destruct, and many more.

Thanks to them, I died many times. The snake wrapped around me with its long body and then suddenly discharged electricity, electrocuting me to death. The spiky mole, which was slightly smaller than me, had countless needles on its back and three sharp claws on each of its hands, and it viciously killed me with a speed that rivaled that of a wind tiger. As for the flies, they attacked me in groups of dozens, and my body was pierced by them at a speed faster than bullets, and they exploded while remaining inside my body───I was blown up many times.

Wow... this forest is really amazing. I never get tired of it.

My excitement never waned as I ran through this amazing place.

Kakyoin-san was hiding behind me and was holding her head, looking exasperated. Maybe she had gotten used to it after witnessing so many battles. She seemed to be quite relaxed.

So, we continued through the forest along the river.

Finally, we got out of the forest.

When we left the forest, we found ourselves in a meadow with beautifully colored flowers blooming in various places.

"Nnn~!"

Kakyoin-san, who had come out of the forest, stretched herself with a satisfied look on her face.

"Phew... Finally, we're out of the forest. The air is so fresh."

Kakyoin-san turned to me and said,

"Thank you, Kushina. I'll at least say thank you."

"You're welcome. What are you going to do now, Kakyoin-san?"

"Well, for now, I'll head for the nearest village or town. I doubt there's no civilization at all. After all, there's such a thing as magic. There must be a civilization that has discovered and accumulated such knowledge. So, that's where I'm going."

"Magic?"

"Ah───"

Kakyoin-san frowned as if to say, "Oops," and quickly turned away.

" What's wrong, Kakyoin-san?"

"N-No! It's nothing!"

"......Really?"

She doesn't want to face me at all, despite saying it's nothing.

"A-Anyway! What about you? Are you going back to the forest?"

"Huh? Me? Well... "

Come to think of it, I hadn't thought about what to do next at all.

But now that I think about it, we haven't eaten anything, have we? I forgot about it because I was so caught up in the battle, but I've been starving all this time.

I can tolerate hunger, but I don't want it to hinder the pleasure of battle───

"Yeah, I've decided. I'll head for the town too."

"I see, good luck. Well then, I'm going to───What did you just say?"

"Eh? I said I'm going to the town too───"'

"Haaaah!?"

My shoulders trembled at the sudden loud voice.

"W-Wait a second!"

Saying that, Kakyoin-san turned away again. Is she thinking about something? I heard her say "but" after holding her head, and finally she looked up at the sky with her hands on her face.

"H-hey, can I ask you something?"

Kakyoin-san turned to face me.

"Yeah?"

"Why were you so obedient to what I said?"

"Huh?"

She suddenly asked me something strange.
