Volume 1
Interlude
Chrisya the
God of Purity
Translator : PolterGlast
In the distant past,
in a place known as the interdimensional space, there existed supernatural
beings called the Creators. These beings were so far beyond our comprehension
that even those of us bound by the framework of the world could neither
influence nor interact with them, let alone perceive them. Such beings dwelled
in that place.
These extraordinary
beings, at some point, created countless worlds. They created multiple worlds
with completely different laws, principles, and even reasons for existence. Our
world is just one of them.
However, the Creators
created too many worlds. There were far more worlds created than there were the
Creators.
───If things continued
like this, it would be difficult to manage.
Thinking this, the
Creators entrusted the management of each world to beings next in rank to
them—the One Gods.
Of course, this world
was no exception. This world was entrusted to a certain god.
The being who became
the manager of this world was my mother—the [Goddess of Fertility], Naritia.
Mother was great.
She created blessings
in a world where nothing existed, guided beasts that should not have been born,
and ultimately created the world as it is now, divided into yin and yang.
After all, I am merely
a god within this world.
Although I have been
deified and am no longer subject to things like a lifespan, that is all I am.
Compared to Her, I am nothing more than a pebble lying on the ground. Sadly,
there is such a great difference between Her and me.
I still don't
understand why I was given the name [Goddess of Purity].
Certainly, I was
cleaner than the other beings. I had a fastidious nature that made me abhor the
actions of [Mother Goddess Matia].
But that's all it was.
There was nothing more.
I know I am ugly. I
feel my heart is tainted, just like everyone else.
This name is too heavy
for me. If anything, Mother is more worthy of this name.
Compared to me, who
has been cooped up in this place for four hundred and fifty years, Mother is...
I have always been
bothered by dirty things. Not only stains on walls and ceilings, but even the
slightest, invisible dust particles floating in the air would bother me. That's
why I hated the outside world.
Matia's actions were
out of the question. The mere act of interacting with others made me nauseous.
In other words, my
purity was nothing more than self-satisfaction.
Even so, Mother told
me it was okay.
She told me it was
fine if I was like this and that I should slowly find a path that I was
satisfied with. She also said that she would be with me until then.
I was so happy...
I only wanted Mother
in my world.
I didn't need anyone
else.
That's what I
thought... until now.
□□□
This ruin was created
by me.
Because I couldn't
tolerate dirt, I created a room where not even a speck of dust could fly, and I
shut myself in.
And to prevent anyone
else from entering, I filled the surroundings with golems (Garma) and created a
complex outer wall.
However, I am, after
all, originally a beast. I cannot live alone.
If I spent a long time
alone in a white room, a white space, I would eventually go mad.
That's why I was
really helped by Mother's presence, who came to see me every thirty days.
Thanks to her coming
and talking to me, I was able to keep myself from losing myself.
Her stories were very
pleasant and comforting...
But about forty years
ago───
"Chrisya, I'm
going to be busy from now on. I won't be able to come here often. I'm
sorry."
Mother suddenly
started talking about it.
"What do you
mean... Mother?"
"It's nothing you
need to worry about. It's my circumstances."
"Mother?"
It was an unusually
vague reply for Mother.
"You'll be alone
for a while. Are you okay?"
"………."
Alone... I had various
things happen to me, but I realized for the first time that I had never been
alone.
"You are a proud
and noble girl. But at the same time, you are fragile. I am very worried about
that."
"………I am"
"You don't have
to hide it. You are in front of me, after all."
"Mother..."
"Chrisya, I'm
going to tell you something important."
Mother's expression
changed from a gentle smile to a serious one.
"Chrisya, find a
kin (kenzoku)."
"Wha!?"
What came out of
Mother's mouth was something unbelievable.
A kin (kenzoku) refers
to a person recognized by a god.
Humans are originally
a taboo. For us gods, they are abhorrent beings created by the [God of Life],
whose name we dare not speak.
However, under special
circumstances, we gods who are recognized by Mother can release a designated
human from that sin. We can make them our servants.
But that means forming
a bond with another person───having a connection with another person. That's one of the things I
avoid.
Mother should know
that too, so why───?
"Don't make that
face. I'm not saying you should make a trusted friend or find a companion you
can depend on."
"But───"
"It's enough to
have a shallow relationship, like using and being used. Just find someone who
is not deeply involved. Even that alone will surely soothe your heart."
"………!"
"I'm not saying
you have to find someone right away. Take your time and think about it. Then
you will surely understand what I mean."
After saying that,
Mother smiled at me for the last time and stood up from where she was sitting.
"Well then,
Chrisya, this is a temporary farewell. I hope you won't be lonely."
