Volume 1
Chapter 51
Faith has
Started a Fight
Translator : PolterGlast
【Runa's POV】
Faith lunged forward
with his greatsword drawn. He was quite fast.
I immediately chose to
distance myself. I wrapped my arm around Akana-san's side and held her close,
reinforcing my body with magic. I also added a boost of wind and leaped,
drawing a large arc, towards the three-story stone building on the opposite
side of the road from us.
It was a close call.
Just as I took off,
Faith closed the distance to where we had been and swung his sword down.
Although he missed, his sword shattered the stone road below, sending a
thunderous shockwave through the area. Shattered stone fragments rained down.
"Whoa, you're
fast. As expected of a white-ranked adventurer. I heard you were a mage, but
your reaction speed and jumping ability are quite impressive."
Faith slung his sword
back over his shoulder and looked at us with a relaxed smile.

Runa is an adventurer
classified as white-ranked in the Adventurer's Guild. That means the amount of
experience in her body is far greater than others.
Experience is a value
that indicates how much mana has been absorbed into the body. And mana is a
substance that strengthens the body of the one who absorbs it. The more mana
absorbed, the more the host's body is strengthened overall.
Because she was near
Kushina in the initial forest, Runa had absorbed an abnormal amount of mana.
The amount of physical reinforcement alone surpassed even the veteran Faith.
However, because their
basic muscle strength is different, Faith's overall muscle strength is
superior. She is at a disadvantage in close combat, both in terms of physical
strength and experience. Runa understands this. That's why she chose to
distance herself from Faith.
□□□
"……Phew."
Cold sweat ran down my
cheek.
I don't have a lot of
combat experience. In fact, other than the previous incident with the bandits,
I haven't had any real fights. And even during the incident with the bandits, I
knew I was definitely superior, so it was more of an extermination than a
fight. This is actually my first real battle.
And judging from the
way the road was destroyed, one hit from him would be fatal. If he gets close,
it's over.
"Runa-san..."
Akana looked at me
worriedly.
Well, that's fine.
I'll buy some time until Kushina arrives.
I don't like being
looked down upon.
I'll show this man how
foolish his attitude is.
I let go of Akana-san
and raised my hands to shoulder level. Activating my magic, I visualized my
imagination. Multiple pale yellow orbs appeared near me, floating and spinning.
"Hou," Faith
muttered, as though he were seeing something unusual. You'll regret that casual
attitude.
I pointed my right
index finger at Faith.
The orbs reacted, and
like homing missiles, they flew towards Faith in irregular trajectories.
Faith made no attempt
to dodge.
The orbs collided with
Faith, exploding. An explosion large enough to easily swallow a person
occurred, and flames delivered a further blow. Smoke billowed up silently,
enveloping the area in gray.
"───"
"……"
Akana-san covered her
mouth with both hands, surprised by what had happened. Obviously, this clearly
shows that my power is out of the ordinary.
But right now, I was
more concerned about something else.
Why didn't he try to
dodge?
Even though the attack
was coming towards him, he didn't even make a move to shield himself with his
weapon. ───As if to say that such
an attack couldn't possibly affect him.
"───!"
As I was pondering
that thought, I heard the sound of a sword being swung, and in response, the
smoke cleared.
"You're good. To
be able to compress that much magic and release it like that, I'm impressed,
young lady."
Faith appeared from
the smoke, unharmed. His armor and clothes were slightly sooty, but he didn't
seem to be injured.
I intended to create
an explosion equivalent to a grenade, but how can he be so unscathed?
"But you're weak
against the unexpected, as Tekiru said. It's proof that you lack combat
experience."
"───!"
That name again. It's
clear that he was up to something.
It's really annoying.
If that guy is involved, there's a high probability that he's done something to
Kushina again.
Although I've given
him a countermeasure, it means that the time I can buy until Kushina arrives
has been shortened.
"───!"
"I don't know
what you're upset about, but that contorted expression of yours ruins your cute
appearance. Well, it's not like I'm one to talk."
Faith chuckled. It
irritated me even more.
"You're not
pursuing after me while you have the chance. You're too inexperienced. It seems
like you won't be able to beat me, young lady. Blame your own negligence."
He lowered his head
and lowered his tone. Then, he raised his sword and pointed the blade at us.
……Negligence? Me??
Don't be ridiculous.
Me, negligent? I've
always acted faithfully to my needs, more than anyone else. If I'm negligent,
then who can be diligent?
Everyone in this
world... they all irritate me. Everything since I came to this world has been
boiling my blood.
This guy too...
Fine, I'll show you.
I'll show you what
happens when you anger me, Kakyouin Runa.
I'll give you a taste
of it.
