Chapter 19
Light Magic
Translator : PolterGlast
Even if you know how
to activate magic you've learned through skills, you won't know what kind of
effect it will have unless you actually use it.
It seems convenient,
but it's actually quite inconvenient.
After thinking about
it, I decided to try using all the magic I can use now, one at a time.
Magic is my partner,
so to speak, for a long time to come.
So not only pure
efficiency, but also usability will be important.
"First of all...
let's start with light magic."
I'm planning to stay
here for a while, so light magic, which will probably be useful in the
[Knight’s Holy Remains], has the highest priority.
I decided to use the
second floor as a practice area.
I haven't met any
other adventurers yet, but I want to reduce the possibility of encountering
them as much as possible.
First, I found a
zombie moving alone and started testing.
"Bind!"
The magic that can be
used at LV 1 is Light and Bind.
The former lights a
light at your fingertips, and the latter is a magic that restrains your
opponent with something like a rope of light.
The bind I released
wrapped around the zombie's arm and held it firmly in place.
"Ubo...
Aah!"
However, the
restraining power itself doesn't seem to be that strong, and the zombie broke
free with brute force in a few seconds.
"Another
bind!"
But this technique is
quite fast.
If it takes about a
second to release a Light Arrow, this one takes about half that time.
The released bind flew
towards the zombie's feet this time.
But it's hard to aim
because the feet move. The magic I released was easily avoided.
It seems like it would
be a waste if I didn't use it in a place where I could steadily hit the
opponent with magic... but it's perfect for creating a momentary opening.
If I hit the opponent
with another magic while they're doing a useless action of breaking the
restraint, I can land a blow on an unprotected spot.
"Bind, and
then... Light Arrow!"
To try out the idea
right away, I restrained the arm with Bind.
And while the zombie
was struggling to break it, the Light Arrow hit it.
The zombie died on the
spot and collapsed to the ground.
I put Bind on the
zombie's dead body (I don't know if this expression is correct).
Apparently, this rope
of light has the characteristic of sticking to things, so I can see that it can
also be used to sew it to the floor by releasing it on each of the four limbs.
"Next up is the
LV 2 magic... hmm."
There are two light
magic that can be learned at LV 2.
Light Arrow, which
I've been using a lot, and Heal, a light recovery magic that can heal wounds.
I'd like to try using
Heal as well, but...I haven't had a chance to use it yet because I haven't been
injured yet.
But since I've decided
to do it, I'll do it properly.
I used the item box to
take out a fruit knife.
And I lightly flicked
it to make a small cut on my fingertip.
"It hurts more
than I thought..."
For me, who has lived
a life without violence until now, the knife cut was painful.
I frowned at the
unfamiliar pain and used magic.
Heal took five seconds
to activate.
"Heal"
A soft white light
stayed on my fingertip, and the wound healed instantly.
It looked like I was
watching a rewind video, and it was a little creepy.
There was not even a
trace left, and the pain was completely gone.
But there was
something I was a little curious about, so I used Heal again.
"Heal"
Then this time, I was
able to activate it in about a second, just like Light Arrow.
What's the difference
between now and the five seconds it took before?
--Probably the
difference in concentration.
I think you need to
concentrate your mind to activate magic.
I was injured, so it
probably took longer to activate than usual.
In that case, lack of
sleep and hunger may also affect magic activation.
I can measure the time
with a smartphone app, so I'll try measuring it next time.
"Okay,
next..."
I used light magic
with higher LVs.
At LV 3, one learns
Flash, which emits a dazzling light like a flash grenade, Shield, which creates
a light shield, and Strength, which buffs allies' attacks.
At LV 4, one learns
Light Arrow Rain, which I used earlier, High Heal, which has a stronger
recovery effect than Heal, and Fortify, which buffs allies' defense.
At LV 5, one learns
Cure, which cures abnormal conditions, Light Whip, which releases a whip of
light, Reflection, which creates a wall of light that repels magic, and Quick,
which buffs allies' agility.
At LV 6, one learns
All Heal, a more powerful recovery magic than High Heal, Regen, which provides
a continuous recovery effect, and High Shield, which creates a stronger and
larger shield.
At LV 7, one learns
Light Magic Sword, which can create a sword of light or imbue light magic on
the blade (this does not seem to have a fixed name, and one can call it by any
name one likes).
At LV 8, one learns
Sanctuary, which creates a light barrier to ward off monsters.
At LV 9, one learns
Last Heal, the most difficult light recovery magic, which can also cure
abnormal conditions, and Aegis, which summons a shield of protection that can
prevent all magic and physical attacks.
At LV 10, one learns
Judgment Ray, which summons a pillar of light.
And there is one more
spell... that I can't use yet.
I don't know why I
can't use it. Is it because I don't have enough achievements, or is it because
my light magic proficiency is not enough... well, I can't use it anyway, so
I'll just leave it for now.
So after trying out
all the light magic spells again... I couldn't help but mutter.
"Well... isn't
light magic too strong?"
