Chapter 21
New Monsters
Translator : PolterGlast
My first exploration
and magic practice.
I felt a sense that I
could make it in this world, but I also found many challenges.
There were a few
things I thought about, but the first thing I had to deal with was getting used
to pain.
I hurt my body several
times and thought that feeling pain would take longer to use magic.
I can easily imagine
myself getting hit by an attack, being unable to use magic because of it, and
then being defeated... that's the future I can imagine.
So, although I'm not
very keen on it, I decided to train myself to endure pain.
From now on, before I
return home after exploring, I'll train myself to use magic while feeling pain
by injuring my body.
The second thing I
have to do is to become proficient at using magic.
To that end, I further
developed my idea from yesterday and decided to focus on light magic and
lightning magic during combat.
It feels a bit
wasteful, but I think it's better than trying to do too many things and ending
up being mediocre at everything.
Magic is like
studying; once you've mastered one, the next one becomes easier.
In my case, having too
many options when using magic can become a bottleneck.
It would be too lame
to be defeated because I couldn't decide which one to use.
I can already use nine
elements of magic, and to go further, excluding earth magic, I can use nearly
10 different types of spells for each element... which means I can use over 80
spells at the moment.
It's a necessary
measure to avoid the consequences of not knowing which one to use when the time
comes.
...Oh, of course, it's
necessary to know what cards I have in my hand, so I intend to use each spell
once.
When I practice
enduring pain before returning home, I intend to use the remaining MP to test
them out.
And the third task
that I will do in parallel with getting used to combat magic is to raise the LV
of each element.
If possible, I want to
raise it to the MAX of 10 as soon as possible.
As you can see from
Gungnir of Lightning Magic LV 10 and Judgment Ray of Light Magic LV 10, high LV
magic is genuinely strong.
Considering the
future, it's not a bad idea to be able to use them.
Besides, raising the
LV of magic itself can be done just by moving around at home, so it doesn't
conflict with the second plan.
Basically, the level
goes up just by using electrical appliances or turning on the faucet, but
darkness and earth are a little different.
To raise the LV of
darkness magic, I need to stay still in a pitch-black space (by the way, for
some reason it doesn't count when I was sleeping, so I need to be awake).
To raise the LV of
earth magic, I have to go out to the garden and tinker with my mother's
gardening.
Since the level goes
up just by doing this, I think it's so easy that other mages would probably die
of anger if they heard about it.
It's been a pain up
until now... but I'll try to do it little by little before going to bed from
now on.
Well, anyway, first
I'll explore the third floor.
The types of monsters
that come out from here on will increase, so let's go without letting our guard
down.
When I descended to
the third level, although it was still a cave, the sense of entrapment I had
felt on the first and second floors disappeared at once.
The width of the
passage became even wider, and unmarked tombs were built side by side in key
areas.
Looking more closely,
I found what looked like stupas sticking out of them.
The graves were
Western-style, as if they were burial sites, so I felt very uncomfortable.
"Ugaugh!"
As I was walking
around cautiously while looking at the map, I heard footsteps from afar.
The dragging sound is
the same, but the speed is much faster than the zombies I was dealing with
until now.
What came was a dog
monster with its right eyeball popping out and its optic nerve exposed.
That's a zombie dog.
Zombie dogs are
basically fast and dog-shaped zombies.
I heard that their
durability is lower than zombies, but they have the speed unique to
quadrupeds...
"Lightning!"
"Gyan!"
Since their movements
were linear, I was able to deal with them without any problems with Lightning.
Apparently, its
durability is lower than a zombie, and it's completely dead with a single blow.
Next came three zombie
dogs.
I don't have the skill
to aim at each one yet, so I decided to use a quantity strategy with Light
Arrow Rain.
Fortunately, thanks to
the high LV of light magic and the power of my magic attacks, the zombie dogs
were able to be defeated without any problems even with a single shot of Light
Arrow Rain.
As I proceeded, I saw the
stairs to the fourth floor, and a new monster appeared again.
"Clack!"
"Clack-clack!"
What came was a
skeleton, a moving skeleton.
There are two of them.
They have crude stone axes in their hands, and their teeth are chattering every
time they walk.
I have to break the
core in their chest, right?
This would be a good
opportunity to try out some powerful lightning magic.
I'll have these guys
be my practice dummies.
