[WN] Shut-In : Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Chain Lightning

Translator : PolterGlast

All Lightning Magic, except for "Accel," which one learns at LV 5 and increases one movement speed by wrapping lightning around one's body, is all offensive spells.

Most of them are mid-range to long-range spells, but like Light, there is also a magic sword that allows you to set your own name.

I don't plan on using them much at the moment though.

Now, which magic should I choose... if possible, it would be nice to be able to defeat the skeletons all at once.

"Chain Lightning"

The lightning magic I chose is "Chain Lightning," which can be learned at LV 4.

Its characteristic is that, as the name suggests, a chain of lightning.

"Gah!?"

First, the Chain Lightning I unleashed hits the skeleton on the right.

It then flashed and... split.

"Gigah!?"

The split lightning flew to the other skeleton nearby and hit it perfectly.

Both cores seemed to be destroyed with a single blow, and the skeletons stopped moving and collapsed to the ground.

Chain Lightning is a magic that, once released, sends out a chain of lightning bolts that fly to nearby enemies.

Like Light Arrow Rain, it has an area of effect (AoE) in game terms.

However, while Light Arrow Rain releases weak Light Arrows to the entire area and attacks a wide range evenly, Chain Lightning only splits and flies to monsters that are relatively close by.

And the power of lightning weakens each time it splits.

However, its power is higher and its speed is faster.

Chain Lightning before splitting is much more powerful than Lightning.

The second lightning that just split is also much more powerful than Lightning.

To put it in game terms again, Light Arrow Rain is better for fighting a large number of weak enemies, and Chain Lightning is better for fighting up to about five enemies.

"For now, it's a skeleton, so I'll collect the core..."

In this world, mana is used as an energy source.

And what is used as a power source in the kingdom is the magic stone that monsters have in their bodies.

This is basically located in the heart, and since it stores the mana of the monster, it can be used as a battery if it is put into a magic tool.

Basically, it's a one-time use, and the demand for magic stones always exceeds the supply.

The reason why ruffians like adventurers are recognized as members of the city is also very much due to the fact that they are collecting essential goods for life called magic stones.

"So this is the core, huh... it's quite scattered. I'll use a dustpan to collect it next time."

The monsters that appear in this [Knight's Holy Remains]... or rather, the undead, have very small magic stones.

Zombies and Zombie Dogs only have magic stones about the size of a fingertip, so you'd have to collect a lot of them before you could sell them.

There's no one crazy enough to dissect zombies whose stench of rot can be smelled even from a short distance away, while bathing in blood and rotten body fluids, and collect such things... so zombie corpses are basically left as they are.

However, among the monsters that appear in the [Knight's Holy Remains], there is one that has something that can be exchanged for money.

That monster is the skeleton I just defeated.

Skeleton-type monsters have a core, which is like an organ in humans.

This core seems to play a role in the body similar to a magic stone, and it seems to conduct mana well, so the core can be sold.

It seems that it can be sold at about the same unit price as a magic stone if it is clean.

But in the first place, it is necessary to destroy the core to defeat the skeleton.

In other words, even if you defeat it, what you get is...

"Shattered core."

What I finally finished collecting in the bag were the remains of the cores that were shattered by Chain Lightning.

Naturally, the shattered core sells for an incredibly low price.

I don't know how much I could get from these, but... I shouldn't expect too much.

The request that Melissa-san brought me also said that the core fragments are sold by weight.

The core can be sold, but it can't be collected unless the core is broken... I see, this is quite stressful.

I found another reason why the [Knight's Holy Remains] is unpopular.

Personally, I'm grateful because there's no problem other than not being able to earn money.
