[WN] Emperor's Seventh Son : 6 - 1

6-1

My Brother Says, "I Shall Not Let You Go"

Translator : PolterGlast

Recap of the Previous Chapter

Leaving Dulin in the care of Atomina and Georg, Ashley headed to the Adventurer's Guild. There, he intentionally took on a stingy request with low pay and set off for Corin Village, far from the Imperial Capital, to subdue goblins.

The village chief of Corin was bewildered by this eccentric who fought with a shovel. Ashley was introduced to Lucky, the captain of the vigilante corps, and his niece, Kachua. The Strange Book also showed Ashley the way: Save Corin Village.

The first thing the Shovel Man did was construct a moat surrounding the village. The villagers were astounded by his unimaginable Shovel technique. As he calculated, this served as a diversion, causing the goblin army to surge forward.

Ordering Kachua and the vigilantes to provide firing support, Ashley acted as the decoy. The decoy operation was a success, and he slew the Hobgoblin leading the pack.

Amidst the cheers of victory, he resumed the moat construction. Working non-stop until late at night, he finally perfected the village's defenses before returning to his bed. The village chief tried to have Kachua creep into Ashley's bed for a night visit, but every romantic flag was snapped in half.

The next day, Ashley worked hard again, building an underground waterway to reclaim the river dammed up by the goblins. Furthermore, Ashley began additional construction on the moat. Before the perfect defense could be completed, the goblins attacked again. Receiving support from the archers, Ashley intercepted them single-handedly and defeated a special variant known as a Hobgoblin Leader.

With the village's safety secured, the small hero declined the chief's offer to give him Kachua and left Corin Village.

When it was all over, Zirant spoke: Ashley is truly the Emperor's child. That figure is the very proof of the First Emperor, who united all races and brought order to a muddy world that was beyond saving.

Reclaim the Emperor's Throne, the Strange Book said.

The Alchemist Dulin and the Firefly Brother — Part 2

The Strange Book says: Pierce through the One and Only Absolute Justice

6-1 My Brother Says He Absolutely Won't Let Me Go

The journey took four days to get there and three days to return.

By the time I gazed upon the Imperial Capital from the outskirts as the sun set, and disembarked from the shared carriage at the central terminal station, the city was already in its evening hours.

I was exhausted from the long trip, but I went straight to that alcohol-reeking Adventurer's Guild.

"Yo, Shinza. I believed you'd come back alive, I really did."

"Rich words for someone who recommended this job. It was terribly difficult—far more than you imagine."

The only people in the guild were that scruffy receptionist and a few unfamiliar drunks. It was a strange story, but this place was livelier during the day than at night. Sigrun had taught me that once night falls, the taverns open, so people naturally flow over there.

"Hahaha, good to hear that turn of phrase again. So, let's hear the report."

"I constructed a deep moat around the perimeter of Corin Village."

"............Huh?"

"I repelled the goblins that interfered and defeated three Hobgoblins. One was apparently a promoted type with 'Leader' tagged on the end."

The receptionist, who had stood up to welcome me, slumped heavily back into his chair and looked down. Then he opened his binder and scanned the request form again.

"I remember now. The one Sigrun was pouting about letting get away. I see, so you took it down."

"Yeah. I also liberated the river that the goblins had dammed up. That is all."

"Ohh, sounds like a great success. Did they assign you a cute girl and get you all motivated? Haha, I get it, no need to say a word, Shinza."

"I did not touch any women."

The receptionist fell silent again at my reply. Then, making a complicated face for some reason, he stared intently at my expression.

"Then... a man?"

"No. I slept in the same room as a woman, but I did not lay a hand on her. It doesn't matter, does it? This kind of talk."

"It does matter, you idiot! I was looking forward to hearing what kind of delicious experience you had! And yet... you slept with a woman but didn't touch her?! What are you thinking? Do you even have a pair of balls growing down there?! Hey, Shinza!"

"Why am I being lectured?"

It was already night. Wanting to go home quickly, I looked toward the exit. The receptionist held his head in his hands, seeming utterly exasperated with me. I don't get it. Our cultures are too different.

"You moron! Eat up next time, got it?!"

"I'll keep it in mind."

Shortly after, the receptionist stacked my payment on the counter. One high-purity 1000-Crown gold coin, and with various other bits, a total of 1720 Crowns. I shoved the reward into a cloth bag and left the guild.

Returning to my room in the palace, I found Jii fast asleep in someone else's bed.

I hadn't expected him to be there. When the door opened with a loud noise, Jii jumped up and looked at me, having just returned.

"A-Ah, Ashley-sama!"

"I'm back. And Jii, don't yell so loudly in the middle of the night."

"Welcome home, Ashley-sama. Now, please sit here. I have words for you."

"Another lecture...? Save it for tomorrow, I want to rest."

I missed my bed, so I followed my foster parent and sat down on it, while Jii stood up and crossed his arms in front of me.

"Please consider the feelings of the person left with just a note when you suddenly go on a journey! Where on earth were you this time, and what were you doing?!"

"Ah, I went to do what needed to be done."

I did the right thing. Zirant acknowledged it too. The people of Corin Village were grateful, and I eliminated the threat to that land. I did my duty as a member of the Imperial Family; there is nothing shady about it.

"Even if you say that with such a sunny face—I feel nothing but anxiety... Hah!? Don't tell me you were playing Chivalrous Thief behind my back again?! Please, stop doing such dangerous things, Ashley-sama!"

He seemed to understand that it would be bad if anyone overheard, so Jii lowered his voice only for the "Chivalrous Thief" part. If I answered that I had engaged in a death match with a goblin army in the remote mountains of Corin Village, would the lecture swell to three times the size?

"Jii, I am just doing what is right. I am doing what only I can do, in place of my Brother, Sister, and Father."

"Your safety is more important than justice! The thought of you encountering danger makes me... makes me worried sick... I just... if you are safe, that is enough for me!"

"Sorry, Jii. But this is also so that I can surv—Georg?"

However, my brother Georg arrived at that moment.

It was a little strange. Brother is a stickler for propriety. He is the kind of man who knocks even for his younger brother. Yet, he didn't.

"I heard you returned."

"Yeah, you can tell by looking. I'm back, Brother."

"Where did you go this time, you prodigal prince..."

"North. I'll tell only you, but I've been working as an adventurer lately. I went to the mountains in Corin Village and defeated goblins. It was quite a valuable experience."

Even though Jii was right behind me, I inadvertently boasted to my brother. I had become strong. Strong enough to save the people my brother couldn't protect.

"I-I-I cannot let that slide, Ashley-sama?! Goblins?! W-What did you intend to do if you were killed?!"

"I never thought about that from the start. If I had a brain for thinking, I wouldn't be an adventurer."

"So reckless..."

However, my brother's behavior was odd. It's hard to tell since he always has a sour face, but my brother is usually fierce. Yet tonight, he was strangely quiet.

"More importantly, Brother, is something wrong?"

"Umu... There is something I must tell you..."

"Is it about aneue (Sister)?"

"You could say that, but the central issue isn't Atomina... Sorry. I assigned subordinates to her, but I couldn't protect her..."

I had concerns even while I was away. The worst possibility floated into my mind, and before I knew it, I had closed the distance to my brother Georg, glaring at him silently.

"Is it about Dulin...?"

"Yeah... I had guards assigned to her, but she was snatched right out from under their noses while she was out..."

Turning away from my brother, I sat heavily on the bed this time. I thought I had returned in triumph, but I plummeted straight into a nasty mood wrapped in impatience, anger, and anxiety.

"Does Atomina-aneue not appearing here have something to do with it too?"

"She is currently at Aunt Du's place. The ones who took Dulin are the State Church. She seems to be trying to get her back, but..."

Aunt Du doesn't have a decent enough character to simply grant someone's wish for free. It will be difficult—my brother grimaced.

"Brother, why is Dulin being targeted in the first place? Sure, hers is a rare line of work, but—is Auntie planning to start a witch hunt? That's so old-fashioned."

I took the Shovel in my hand and gripped it tight. With this steel tool, I turned a village into a solid fortress and restored the water's flow. I had come to feel like I could rely on it, to cling to it.

"Did you tell Father?"

"No, his health hasn't been good lately. Even meeting him is a struggle..."

"That man is unreliable."

"He is the Emperor of this country. Just because he is the Emperor does not mean he can save everything."

Then, as it stands, it means there is no one who can save Dulin. I gripped the Shovel again and stood up powerfully.

"Where are you going! Even if you have grown stronger than me, if you raid the State Church, you will be exiled from the Empire itself!!"

"Maybe so. But I'm sick and tired of the feeling of being unable to save those who can be saved because I'm worrying about my position."

Zirant tells me to become the light, but it's impossible for me after all. The corruption of this country cannot be defeated by doing things the proper way. Everything is rotten. It is wrong that a young girl is kidnapped by the State Church, which is supposed to provide peace to the people, and we cannot even lift a finger.

"If Sister and Brother are the Empire's Light, then I am indeed the Darkness. Darkness will carry out justice in its own way."

"Then I absolutely will not let you go!! I have a duty to protect you, my younger brother!!"

Brother placed his hand on his sword. Not the training one, but the one for killing people. If we do this poorly, we'll both go down; mutual injury would be the better outcome.

"I'm joking. Jii, make some food. I'm exhausted today."

"I shall do so. Just watching a sibling quarrel makes my heart ache."

"Ashley, do not do anything careless. This time, the opponent is bad news... If you make an enemy of them, you won't get off lightly. Don't be hasty, be cautious."

Brother Georg isn't wrong. He is always right.

Another ruler of the empire, possessing power rivaling the Emperor—that is the State Church. I hear that depending on Aunt Du-Neil's mood, even the order of succession to the throne can be changed.

"Yeah, I'll do that. I'm resting today. But what happens from tomorrow onward, the 'me' of tomorrow will decide."

"Why are both you and Atomina so recklessly straightforward... Kh, you're a handful..."

Brother Georg, I return those words right back to you.

Well, there's no need to agonize so much. The brother you protected for so long has obtained a power that overturns logic: the Shovel.

My meeting with Zirant is fate. Using this power, I will take back Dulin, and I will give that arrogant Aunt, who scatters hysteria indiscriminately, a punishment that even Father cannot deliver.

- Chivalrous Thief - [Steal Dulin Andvaranaut]

·         Completion Reward: EXP 500, Shovel LV 0.5

·         I permit it. Do it. You shall purge the villains twisting the First Emperor's wish!

Zirant, it's surprising to see even you get fired up. You seem to have quite an attachment to this 'First' fellow.

Very well. I will gladly make that challenge of yours a reality.

I will save Dulin Andvaranaut. No matter what corner I am backed into, I will absolutely protect her from absurdity. Just watch me, Zirant.

[WN] A Hero From a Remote Village : Chapter 149

Chapter 149

Arrival

Translator : PolterGlast

Running with Gree and Anne on my back took about five hours. Because we took breaks along the way, it took longer than anticipated, but the city of Biodasdal safely came into view.

"Gree, Anne. Biodasdal is in sight."

"...Ugh. ...We finally arrived? Seriously... urgh, I thought I was gonna die."

"You really exaggerate, Gree. Anne looks fine."

"I was scared at first, but it might have been fun once I got used to it. Since Graham-san defeated that Cruhamilion in a day, I wasn't worried about falling."

"See? You're the older brother, yet you're pathetic."

"Anne is just weird... I'm normal!"

His face is pale, but he seems to have energy, so he should be fine. I put the two of them down and headed straight into the city.

The only worry was whether Gree and Anne could enter the city, but partly because they are young, we were able to enter without being particularly questioned. Well, in the worst case, I intended to have the Guild Master handle it, so we would have been able to get in either way.

So, first, let's go to the Guild Master's place. I have to tell him about housing these two, and if any procedures are necessary, he'll handle it.

"Heh, this city is pretty big too. Feels bigger than Lightmira."

"I think it probably is big. Just so you know, Biodasdal seems to be one of the top five cities in the kingdom."

"It's that prosperous! So... where will we work in such a big city?"

"Hmm... It's hard to explain since the workplace doesn't exist yet. I intend to have you do... something like helping out with what I'm trying to do."

"What Graham-san is trying to do...?"

"What's that. I don't get it at all."

"Well, anyway, rest assured it's not a bad job."

If I were to explain the content simply, it would be accepting children like the two of them—but I can't say that in front of these two. I'll omit the detailed explanation.

Taking the two, who were looking all around the city, we arrived at the Adventurer's Guild. I had the guild staff let us through and headed to the Guild Master's office.

The inside of the Guild Master's office was messy as usual, and the figure of the Guild Master working surrounded by such a massive amount of documents was there. I'm relieved for now that he wasn't out.

"Oh! Graham-san, you're back!"

"Yeah. Various things happened, so I'm late."

"As long as you're safe, that's what matters. Ginia and Aoi visited me many times, so if you haven't gone to them, you should go quickly. It felt like they were about to go search for you soon."

So I did cause them worry after all. I was optimistic, but perhaps I should have gone to Ginia and Aoi first.

"Is that so. Sorry for letting them barge in on you."

"You don't need to worry about it. More importantly... is the reason your return was delayed related to the two behind you, Graham-san?"

Gree and Anne were trying to hide behind my back, and even after being spotted, they remained hidden. The Guild Master has surprisingly strong pressure, so they might be wary.

"Yeah. I met them in Lightmira, the city you told me about. I'm thinking of having these two work as well."

"...I see. I think that's a good idea. I am Dwayne, the Guild Master of this city's Adventurer's Guild. Nice to meet you."

The Guild Master started to say something, but he immediately grasped the situation. There are many strange parts involved here, but true to his position as the head of the Guild, he is quick on the uptake, which is a huge help.

"—Come on. You two introduce yourselves too."

"U-Um... I'm Anne. Nice to meet you."

"...I'm Gree. Nice... to meet you."

"Anne and Gree, right? I'm Dwayne, the Guild Master. Nice to meet you."

"So, with that said, if any procedures are needed, I'd like to ask you."

"No, I don't think anything is particularly needed right now. Leave it to me if something becomes necessary later."

"Is that so? Then, I'm counting on you when necessary."

Alright. I've finished the meeting with the Guild Master, so although we just arrived, let's leave. I want to report about the Cruhamilion and the Guild Master of Lightmira, but right now, meeting Ginia and Aoi should take priority. Even while we are doing this, they might leave to search for me, and we'd miss each other.

"Well then, Guild Master, I have to head over to Ginia's place, so even though it's a bit abrupt, I'll be taking my leave."

"Yeah. Let me hear the story when you have time again."

"Yeah, understood."

After exchanging light greetings, I left the Guild Master's office. Gree and Anne also bowed slightly to the Guild Master before going outside.

"Graham, are we going already?"

"Yeah. There are people I want to meet first."

"Is the next person... a scary person like the one just now?"

"The person just now isn't scary either. If anything, he's a kind person. Though he is a little strange."

"Heh. Graham is the same way, I guess you can't judge a book by its cover."

"Gree is rude every now and then. ...Well fine, the people we are meeting now aren't scary looking. They are women, after all."

"Women, huh... I'd be happy if they are kind."

I can declare that Ginia is kind, but Aoi is a bit worrying. But with that personality, I'm sure both of them will get along immediately, and Gree and Anne will probably take a liking to them too.

More than that... I am extremely worried about whether I will be scolded. I didn't take them along, and on top of that, I'm late returning without any contact. For a moment, my steps felt heavy, but dawdling won't help, so I advanced toward the tavern.

[WN] Jitsuwa 3-Domedatta : Chapter 247

Chapter 247

Southern Front — The Beginning of the Final Battle

Translator : PolterGlast

Chronicles of Baron Solis Territory ⚔ Final Chapter

In the year 513 of the Kyle Calendar, a large-scale invasion by the Griffonia Empire occurred. The Black Hawk, pride of the Empire, struck the Kyle Kingdom in accordance with the Emperor's will.

The Shield protecting the border, Margrave Hastburg, barricaded himself in the fortress to intercept. In response, the left wing of the Imperial Army executed a large-scale encircling advance. They passed through the territory border of a secretly collaborating Viscount and struck the Estol Territory.

The Baron Solis Army set up camp in Teigoon to intercept but was routed. The Baron surrendered, pleading for the lives of his subjects and remaining soldiers, and that the harvest not be seized from the people.

The Estol Territory surrendered to General Weiss, Legion Commander of the Northern Expeditionary Force. The young Baron was executed, the Baron's house was extinguished, and thus met its end.

In the autumn of the year 513 of the Kyle Calendar, the Empire's invasion finally began. It came after years of effort, historical malice, and twists and turns, in a form completely different from the previous history. And yet... as if steering toward the very same demise, it arrived laden with a multitude of malicious intents.

Commander Weiss and Erol are figures to be relied upon as allies in this history. Conversely, the Imperial Army has prepared a much larger force than in the previous history and is invading with stronger hostility. And in place of the Commander's presence, Sieghart exists in the Third Prince's camp.

Does history mean that even if a key person is missing, someone else will stand in their place? Then, who will take Erol's place?

Is it Lugner, who still evades capture? Or... A touch of anxiety remained within me.

The day after we left the Southern Gate Fortress, the Griffonia Empire Army marched en masse to the border.

"Report! The Imperial Army vanguard of about 30,000 has crossed the border and is heading this way!"

A scout's report reached Margrave Hastburg, who had been waiting fully prepared. There was no agitation whatsoever among the Margrave or anyone in his camp.

"They've come! Messenger, convey the enemy attack to Lord Darek at the Southern Gate Fort and the Demon Territory Count at Aegis! All forces, prepare for interception!"

The Margrave's instructions were executed immediately. Messengers exited the rear gate, spurring their horses in two directions, while soldiers ran busily within the fortress to take their positions.

The main unit of 4,000 led by Margrave Hastburg defended the center of the fortress, the Farmus Army of 1,200 took position on the fortress left wing, and Viscount Kyrias's army of 1,400 took position on the right wing.

"Draw the enemy in as much as possible, then mow down their center with a simultaneous volley from the catapults. Vanguard archers, coordinate with Wind Mages to conduct suppression fire. First, blunt the Imperial Army's advance!"

At the Margrave's instruction, about 6,000 soldiers on the castle walls readied their crossbows, waiting for the signal to volley.

Meanwhile, far behind the front lines where the First Prince's headquarters faced the Kyle Kingdom Army to capture the Southern Gate Fortress, the Third Prince had set up camp as the rearguard. They could not make sense of the movements of the vanguard led by the First Prince and were suspicious of his intentions.

"Sieghart, is that guy just a simple idiot? Or does he have some kind of plan? To me, it only looks like he's advancing to become prey..."

"Well... They will soon enter the range of the enemy's catapults. However, the range of the crossbows fired by the enemy army is far longer than ours. At first glance, it looks like nothing but a reckless advance. But..."

"So even for the wise man of our army, it is inexplicable behavior?"

"Yes. To begin with, the composition of the army led by His Highness Glorious is vastly different from before. His prized iron cavalry is fewer than expected at 10,000, and he has equipped all the remaining 20,000 infantry with heavy shields. Those 20,000 are currently moving to attach to the castle walls, but with that number, taking that fortress is impossible. I do not think His Highness Glorious is that much of a fool, so he must have some plan."

As if hearing their conversation, there was a man boasting on the front lines.

"Hmph, both friend and foe alike probably see me as a fool conducting a reckless charge. They will realize in this battle who the true fool is. Harry, once we advance to the range of the enemy catapults, advance the infantry all at once! Accompanied by them."

"Understood. This could serve as a prelude to the battle in the Demon Territory."

"Aye. They will realize why I dare to challenge an impregnable fortress."

Saying so, the First Prince, Glorious, smiled fearlessly while staring at the enemy fortress.

Several months prior to this battle, he and his aide, Duke Harry, had met again with an unpleasant man.

"Fweh heh heh, Your Highness, it has been a while. I am glad to see you in good health. I heard you intend to dare pull chestnuts from the fire in this campaign, but do you have any concrete calculations?"

"Hmph, we do not need to borrow your hands. You've probably just arranged for some useless traitors anyway, haven't you? We don't need such things. We intend to crush them head-on."

"Hoh, quite a bold thing to say. To break through the Demon Territory Count's fortress, which utilizes Mages, from the front. Assuming you can take it with human wave tactics, what will you do after? Are you saying you will take the Royal Capital with diminished forces?"

"..."

"I surmised that you lacked a decisive factor even if you had a plan, so I came to intrude. With two gifts..."

Glorious did not like the old man laughing eerily as he said this. A gloomy old man burning with obsession to sell out his motherland, a man who instigates traitors and brings harm to his country.

"Then I permit you to offer your strategy. Of course, I will decide whether to adopt it after hearing it."

But it was also true that the plan Glorious was currently formulating lacked a decisive factor. He didn't expect much, but if it could serve as even a little reference for his thoughts... It was with such casual indifference that he agreed to listen.

"Very well. Regarding my first proposal, I shall offer a means that could be a ray of hope for Your Highness's army, which has been unilaterally overrun by the use of magic until now. If you do this, the enemy army's absolute advantage will be overturned instantly."

"Is-Is that true? Tell me in detail!"

Glorious leaned forward all at once, urging the old man.

And later, it was precisely because of the strategy bestowed by the old man at this time that Glorious desired the vanguard in the opening battle and gained confidence in his plan to break the enemy right wing.

On the other hand, starting with Margrave Hastburg of the Kyle Kingdom, the generals in charge of the front lines were perplexed.

The Imperial Army vanguard stopped just before the 500-m range of the catapults and began to align their formation, raising shields all at once. Then, under a command, half of them—10,000 troops—recklessly began a simultaneous charge with shields raised.

"Th-Those madmen! Do they intend to send their vanguard of 10,000 into a suicidal charge, with absolutely no regard for casualties?! No, that cannot be. Catapults! Keep your aim fixed on the rear guard of 10,000! Maintain your firing positions! Archers! Hold your fire and draw them in! Once they close to within 200 m, unleash a full volley!"

At Margrave Hastburg's instruction, the crossbow soldiers took firing positions and waited for the enemy army to come within 200 m. At this distance, with the support of Wind Mages, they could not only surpass the enemy in range but, positioned on the high ground of the castle walls, could unilaterally kill the enemy army. Thanks to Takuhir's teachings, trenches indicating distance were dug in the earth in front of the castle walls, allowing all soldiers to fire after grasping the accurate distance.

However, when the Imperial Army approached to 250 m, they stopped again, overlapping shields to create numerous defensive formations.

"Fuhahaha, I've won! Sound the gong announcing the start of the attack! Give them a taste of raining hellfire and roaring thunder on their heads!"

With the First Prince's signal, a simultaneous attack by as many as 50 Mages began.

"Wh-What is thaaat!"

"Gwaaah!"

"H-Help me!"

Screams raised by Kyle Kingdom soldiers echoed everywhere atop the castle walls.

"W-Why! Why do they possess Mages? Th-This attack is not from just ten or twenty people!"

Amidst the panicked screams of the commanders, the top of the fortress was engulfed in a sea of fire in various places, and the soldiers led by the Margrave, who should have been poised to attack from a position of overwhelming superiority, were instead thrown into utter chaos.

"Hmph, magic attacks are not solely the possession of the Kingdom Army. Receive your own past deeds upon your bodies and realize your own foolishness."

Amidst years of grudges, the First Prince watched the miserable state of the Kingdom Army with a relieved heart and declared loudly. This was one of the souvenirs from the creepy old man.

The proposal was about a united front with the Fearalt Principality Rebel Army during the invasion of the Kyle Kingdom. As part of that deal, it was added that they were prepared to provide 40 Fire Mages and 10 Thunder Mages specialized in attack.

The First Prince rejoiced at the proposal. Immediately, messengers went back and forth frequently between the two countries, leading to today.

"Press the attack! Push the ballistas deployed in the second wave to the front lines! Riding this momentum, we will make this fortress ours at once."

Waiting behind the protruding 10,000, the other 10,000 infantry also began to advance. Beside them, large siege weapons—ballistas—brought in amidst the confusion on the front lines, shone their dull-colored blades, ready to be fired into the enemy camp.

"Report! The central part of the castle wall and the left wing have been breached in multiple sectors by enemy magic attacks, and we cannot mount an effective counterattack! Casualties are numerous! Requesting immediate reinforcements!"

"Report! Fires have broken out in various places inside the fortress as well! Intermittent attacks make firefighting impossible to catch up!"

Even between those reports, loud impact sounds echoed.

"Report! We are currently receiving a simultaneous volley from enemy ballistas! The number is approximately 100! Our catapults are being targeted, and most have lost functionality in the first strike!"

The reports brought to Margrave Hastburg were all close to screams mixed with shrieks.

"We... were arrogant in our advantage of possessing Mages. To the extent we couldn't even imagine attack magic raining down on ourselves... No, perhaps we relied too much on the existence of the Demon Territory Count, who saved us from predicaments many times."

The Margrave muttered quietly, then raised his head.

"Everyone, do not panic! This fortress has not fallen yet! With the number of enemy Mages, they cannot attack this entire fortress. Move the archers to positions with overhead cover. Concentrate fire with long-range crossbows aiming at the positions where the Mages are! It doesn't have to hit; the act itself will be a check. If the magic attacks stop, regroup!"

At the Margrave's rebuke, the shaken command center regained its composure. However, the situation had not necessarily turned for the better yet. Flames were rising everywhere on the central and left-wing castle walls of the fortress, and Water Mages were desperately conducting firefighting activities. The catapults were in a state of near-total destruction.

"Rotate the reserve forces in the center to support the left wing on the defensive wall and fill the gaps. Order Kyrias to support the right side of the central part!"

The defense of the fortress, which was on the verge of falling into total destruction, barely managed to hold on at the last line under Margrave Hastburg's tenacious command.

The battle had only just begun, and the Margrave and his men had merely held out temporarily. And a new move from the First Prince's camp, which would plunge them further into a predicament, was about to assault them.
