Chapter 24
Wraith
Translator : PolterGlast
I came to the fourth
floor.
First, before
proceeding, I'll check my current status.
I think my MP has
decreased quite a bit because I've been spamming magic continuously without
hesitation.

For the time being, my
LV has increased to 8.
But compared to when I
was killing orcs and leveling up quickly, the pace of leveling up seems to have
slowed down significantly.
Naturally, if you keep
hunting monsters weaker than yourself, it will become increasingly difficult to
level up.
It's probably like the
amount of experience required for leveling up increases.
Also, the noteworthy
points are that my magic attack power has increased because I've been using a
lot of magic, and that my agility stat, which had decreased (should I say
returned?) after being holed up for a month, has increased by 1.
After all, using magic
in actual combat increases the speed of leveling up faster than being at home.
In my case, the
bottleneck is still the depletion of MP.
Physically, I still
have plenty of energy, but I've already consumed more than a third of my MP.
High-LV magic is
powerful and easy to use, but it also consumes a lot of MP.
I encounter quite a
few enemies, so it's difficult to conserve MP enough to keep up with natural
recovery.
I proceeded while
feeling the reason why soloing as a mage is said to be difficult.
Then, a wraith
monster, which is said to appear on the fourth floor, appeared.
"Ooo..."
Its appearance is more
Western than Japanese.
It's a female type,
its body is somewhat greenish, and its hair is spread haphazardly and floats
with a mysterious power.
It has no feet, its
eyes are hollow, and its mouth corners are raised to an area that is clearly
impossible for a human body.
When the wraith, who
was wandering around happily, noticed me, it changed its expression to anger.
"Ooo!"
I don't think I've
done anything wrong, but it seems to be very angry.
The wraith moves
towards me while screaming.
When I hear it, I feel
a little uneasy in my chest, and I get a bad feeling.
...Could it be that
this scream is a status abnormality attack?
It seems that the
wraith's scream has the effect of causing panic and frenzy.
The reason it doesn't
work on me is... probably because my magic resistance is high.
Normal physical
attacks do not work on spirit-type monsters such as wraiths.
To defeat them, you
need to attack with either magic, a magic weapon, or a magic-imbued weapon.
So it seems that they
have a very bad compatibility for melee fighters.
My compatibility with
them doesn't seem to be bad, though.
"Lightning"
"Ooo..."
When I hit the wraith,
which was floating closer, with Lightning, it seemed to be working, and it let
out a cry of agony.
Then, leaving a cry of
lament, the wraith's figure disappeared from the spot.
...I've heard that
spirit-type monsters don't leave corpses, so I guess this means I've defeated
it.
I don't really collect
their corpses, but it's a little bit strange that there are no dead bodies left
behind after I defeat them.
I might be getting
used to dungeon exploration.
The only monster that
appears on the fourth floor is the wraith.
Because of this, I
don't feel nauseous while walking or suddenly feel sick from the stench of rot
drifting around.
So, the exploration is
progressing smoothly, more than ever before.
After a few tens of
minutes of searching and subjugating, I eventually saw the stairs to the fifth
floor.
In terms of physical
fatigue... there's no problem.
It is a bit difficult
to decide whether to go on or not, though.
It seems that the
fifth floor will have all the monsters that have appeared so far, plus the
skeleton soldier, which is the superior species of skeleton.
The fragments of the
skeleton soldier's core seem to sell for about the same price as a goblin's
magic stone, so I'm looking forward to defeating them... but I want to
challenge them after raising my LV as much as possible because I don't know the
strength of the skeleton soldier.
"...Alright, I'll
stay on the fourth floor today."
I'll take my time here
and hunt wraiths to raise my LV and practice magic.
There's no doubt that
this floor is the most suitable for leveling up and checking magic.
After all, I can save
on Refresh, which consumes the most MP, so the number of magic I can use should
change significantly.
