Chapter 47
A New Enemy
Translator : PolterGlast
After exercising in
the training room for about six hours, I was exhausted and decided to give up
on going to the ninth floor. I want to punch myself in the face for thinking
that running was easy.
Apparently, the
difficulty of the equipment and machines in this training room is adjusted to a
level that I can barely handle with my stats, and it doesn't look like it will
be easy.
By the way, when I sat
idly on the machine for three hours, wondering if my status would go up even if
I didn't exercise, my status didn't change at all.
It seems that the
machine is designed in such a way that it is impossible to cheat, so one has to
train hard in order to improve one's status.
I didn't have the
energy to do another three hours of training, so I left the training room and
lay down on the bed in my room.
If I fall asleep like
this, the remaining MP will be wasted, so I decided to pour it in to expand the
simulation room and bring out the light board.
"...Hmm!?"
I can't help but cry out at the strange
feeling.
・Training room (status improvement)
・Simulation room (combat skill improvement)
I thought that the
letters in the training room would also turn gray like the ????? below, but
they remain lit. I tried touching the training room as my curiosity led me.
[Do you want to
enhance the training room? Yes/No]
When I selected yes,
the screen switched.
[Please pour in MP.
Filling MP 0/20000]
I can further enhance
the training room... Maybe, instead of making the exercises harder, the increase
in status will be 2 or something.
To be honest, I'm
tempted to pour my mana into it, but I don't think there's much point in
over-enhancing the training room if I'm just starting out on the path of
muscles.
It will take me quite
a while to get used to it, so I'll just pour MP into the simulation room as
originally planned.
I filled up the MP
while eating the thawed roll bread. Then, after brushing my teeth properly, I
used up my MP, and fell asleep as usual--.
After waking up, I
prepared and headed to the ninth floor. I thought my body would be stiff, but
strangely, I didn't have any muscle soreness.
"Alright, let's
go."
I went through the
door that was set up in front of the stairs and went down the stairs before the
Null Zombies appeared.
From here on, the map
I received from Varietta-san has a lot of holes in it. I have to proceed while
mapping it out myself.
The ninth floor is a
vast grassland, completely different from what it has been so far. Looking up,
there is not the familiar smooth ceiling, but a pitch-black sky.
There is no moon or
even a single star shining in the night sky. But for some reason, it's faintly
bright enough to see a little ahead.
This time, I
discovered the mysterious phenomenon peculiar to dungeons a little eerie.
The ninth floor is
quite dark compared to the previous floors. Of course, Of course, I had heard
about it beforehand, so I was not surprised.
"Oh, it's quite
bright."
The light illuminates
the way ahead in accordance with the movement of my neck. Since it has a
considerable luminous intensity, I can see further than when I was on the
eighth floor.
--Currently, I am
wearing a helmet with a headlamp for disasters that had been lying around at
home. I have taken all possible measures against the darkness.
It's a little
frustrating that I can't pinpoint the area I want to illuminate, but it's quite
convenient because I can illuminate the way ahead without having my hands full.
"Let's see,
here's what it looks like..."
I added new
information to Varietta-san's map that I printed out at home.
Since this floor
itself is a huge space, using Perception is not very useful.
As I walked slowly,
there were some traces of wells and something like a stone-divided hearth in
the grassland.
Traces of life... I
wonder what it is? Or is it made so that people can live in the afterlife?
There are burial goods
and elaborate tools for living. The more I look at it, the more this dungeon
looks like a tomb.
Perhaps if I reached
the lowest floor, I might be able to meet the master of this tomb.
I add things that seem
to be landmarks while walking slowly. Since I can grasp the location of the
enemy using Wind Search, I won't be caught off guard while concentrating on map
creation.
I make a map while
avoiding enemies as much as possible... but it seems that they have noticed me.
There is an individual approaching rapidly.
I put the map in my
pocket and enter a battle-ready state, and my headlamp illuminates the monster
that is coming. What appeared was a purple ghost floating in the air--Sorcery
Wraith.
It looks no different
from a Wraith, but it is said that this guy half-destroyed Varietta-san's
knight order, so it is not an opponent that one can underestimate.
From here on, all
monsters use magic. No matter how strong I become, I have to fight without
being complacent... if not, it is I who will be defeated.
