Chapter 42
Null Zombie
Translator : PolterGlast
After returning to the
surface, I challenged myself to level up again.
As I repeated Lich
hunting for several days, items piled up.
It's a shame that I
can't sell them, but for the time being, I managed to collect enough to provide
weapons to any bare knights I come across.
Please don't aske me
silly questions like where such a knight order is.
For the time being,
I've put all the weapons left by the undead into the item box, but I haven't
reached the limit yet.
I should have put in a
considerable amount of weapons, so the total weight should be considerable...
but apparently the capacity of the item box is much larger than I imagined.
Since it is unknown
how much it can hold, I will put in as much as I can for the time being and
find out the limit.
The monster that
appears on the eighth floor is called Null Zombie.
Visually, it is just a
zombie whose body color has turned green.
But this guy has
another name.
--Magic User Killer.
This Null Zombie is a
very rare zombie that has the characteristic of nullifying all magic.
Furthermore, unlike
ordinary zombies, it moves quite fast and continues to move for a while even if
it is crushed and defeated.
And it seems that it
uses not only its fangs but also its claws to attack with paralysis status
abnormalities (of course, it seems to be more powerful than that of a normal
zombie).
What's more, when a
Null Zombie lets out a war cry, it calls out the other Null Zombies nearby.
If you don't defeat
the first Null Zombie you encounter, a new Null Zombie will appear, and if you
don't defeat that one quickly, the number of Null Zombies will increase
exponentially.
And when you realize
it, you are surrounded by Null Zombies.
Besides, they are
immune to magic and area-of-effect attacks don't work on them, making them
extremely troublesome.
They are such a crappy
game-like enemy that even Madhan○ would be surprised.
This Null Zombie is a
bit different from the ones that have appeared so far.
So I decided to repeat
battle training thoroughly.
Of course, I have
already come up with countermeasures, but there is no guarantee that they will
always work.
So, just in case, I
decided to challenge the eighth floor after the monsters on the seventh floor
stopped raising my LV at all.
No matter how much my
LV increases, I will continue to "value life" more.

I hate to say it
myself, but I can't help but feel like I'm gradually ceasing to be human.
According to Varietta-san, one blow from the
Grim Reaper is dangerous enough to cause fatal wounds even to knights, and the
undead army led by the Lich is an opponent that cannot be defeated unless it is
on a platoon scale, but if it is the current me, it would end in one blow.
Since I can't
determine how powerful they are with just a single Judgment Ray, I tried
various things and found out that I can defeat all but the lich with Chain
Lightning, and the Lich with Lightning Bolt.
It takes more effort
to use magic, but it uses less MP.
Since the skill LV of
mana recovery has also increased, this makes it possible for me to keep
fighting until my concentration reaches its limit.
And with the increase
of my physical LV, my concentration and stamina have clearly improved, and I no
longer feel tired even if I continue fighting nonstop.
It would be a
different story if I were fighting at full strength, but at least I can
continue fighting through the night even if I release one or two spells.
I don't know to what extent
my physical limit is, and it's enough to scare me.
However, it was
completely my fault that I was so focused on leveling up that more time had
passed than I had expected.
When I realized that I
had been hunting the Lich for more than a whole day, I couldn't help but wryly
smile at myself.
The hyperfocus I had
from the beginning is completely working in a bad way...
Well, my level is
going up steadily, so I'll take it as a good thing.
Let's get back on
track and head for the eighth floor.
There was an
unprecedented change in the walls surrounding the left and right sides of the
stairs leading down to the eighth floor.
It was made of soil
that would get your hands dirty if you touched it, but after passing halfway,
it turned into a smooth white stone.
When I touched the
glossy stone like a stalactite, it felt cool.
And as I went down, I
smelled a stench that I had smelled a little while ago.
I stopped once at the
smell of aged garbage and took out the tissue I had prepared in advance.
And after firmly
covering my nose with tissue, I decided to go down the stairs.
I will also take
measures against the smell.
Masaru Kazunoi is a
capable man after all.
After I went down the
stairs, what spread out from the bottom was a cemetery area.
The cemetery is so
large that you would think it was a mausoleum, stretching as far as the eye can
see.
When I went to the
thirteenth anniversary of my grandfather's death, I saw a fairly large cemetery
in the countryside, but this is much larger.
I wonder how many bodies
are buried there... no, there are no bodies because it's a dungeon, right?
Maybe all these graves
have Null Zombies?
My intellectual
curiosity is a little piqued, but I have to concentrate on the battle.
Using Wind Search...
there are quite a few of them.
The place is so vast
that you can't see everything, but there are hardly any monsters.
So it seems my advance
information was correct.
For the time being, I
use Quick and Accelerate together, further accelerate the speed at which I have
stopped being human, and prepare a situation in which I can react to anything,
and start walking slowly.
Then... Rumble,
rumble!
The soil in front of
the grave began to swell.
And it sank greatly,
and a green hand came out from the hole that was made.
What appeared at a
fast pace like watching fast forward was a zombie that was all green, making me
want to say, "Is this a 2P color of a zombie?"
"Ugogyaaaaaaaaaa!!"
This is... Null
Zombie.
Well, I hope it goes
as I planned beforehand.
