[WN] Shut-In : Chapter 52

Chapter 52

Wind

Translator : PolterGlast

To soothe my frayed nerves after that intense encounter, I took a long, relaxing bath.

I wanted to unwind, so I added some citrus-scented bath salts.

Cleaning the tub is a hassle, so I'll just use [Refresh] later.

I brought some juice into the bathroom, which was a bit of a luxury, and read a couple of shonen manga.

After I was thoroughly boiled like an octopus, I plopped down on the couch.

Now that my autonomic nervous system was back to normal, I felt a little more relaxed.

I wiped off the sweat with a luxury towel that my mother had received as a wedding gift, and began to reflect on the situation.

"I need to learn to always close the door properly next time..."

A newly discovered fact about the power of my [Home].

This gift rejects the entry of creatures with harmful intent towards me... but it allows the attacks of those with harmful intent to pass through.

In other words, even if I escape into my home, I can't relax until I close the door and my home is completely separated from the world.

The home that appears by the gift disappears smoothly when the door is closed.

The door is exposed to attacks during the time it takes to disappear.

"Well, nothing is perfect. For now, I should be able to manage as long as I close the door."

The Elder Lich's attack on the closed door was successfully blocked.

Since I managed to block the attack of that flying guy, it's probably made to withstand a lot.

Even if it's broken, I can use [Refresh], and I just have to endure until my home disappears from there and is completely isolated.

I never thought I would really have to go back to my home without much of a fight...

I was truly glad that I had practiced escaping into my home immediately in case of an emergency.

"But it's certain that I'll have to defeat that guy eventually. The railgun did some damage. If I throw in a high LV magic, I should be able to defeat him, even if it's not a one-hit kill."

The problem is that speed.

At that rate, I'll be caught up even if I fire one or two shots.

The opponent's magic casting speed was quite fast.

Even so, the impact on the door was quite intense.

If it comes to a close-range magic battle, I, who have only recently learned magic, will be at a great disadvantage.

I have to challenge him with the same determination as fighting a veteran magic user--what Varietta-san calls a wizard.

"But still... hah, that was scary..."

While slumped on the couch, I tore open the silver foil wrapping and nibbled on a chocolate bar.

If I close my eyes, I can still remember it vividly.

The figure of the Lich flying in the sky... that's traumatic.

I thought I was going to die, no kidding.

How can I defeat that guy?

Even my railgun, which currently has the highest speed and power, didn't seem to work at all.

Should I try using light magic, which is specialized against the undead?

Hmm...

It's quite a headache to think about countermeasures against the Elder Lich.

I can't even imagine being able to defeat it quickly and easily...

But after thinking about it for a while, I noticed something strange.

"That's right... why did only that Elder Lich notice my approach?"

When I used Wind Search, there were other Elder Liches near me besides that individual.

But the other Elder Liches, except for that guy who came towards me at an incredible speed, didn't react at all even when I came to the tenth floor.

"Is he the only abnormal individual?

Only that individual has an abnormally high search ability... no, wait a minute.

Come to think of it, that individual was using wind to fly in the sky.

There is no doubt that that Elder Lich is a wind magic user.

When I hear wind magic for searching, I remember Wind Search, which I use myself and have been using for a long time.

Isn't it better to think that that Elder Lich was also using search magic like Wind Search...?

"If that's the case, the difficulty level will increase significantly..."

There is a possibility that multiple Elder Liches will approach me after being detected by the wind, and it is also quite possible that I will be interrupted by the Elder Liches when I am in the middle of a battle because they will detect me.

Come to think of it, that Elder Lich had a staff with a green jewel embedded in it.

Is it possible that the attributes they have are different for each Elder Lich...?

"Whatever the case, let's try the tenth floor again. I have too little information as it is."

I took a good rest, ate a delicious meal, and decided to challenge the tenth floor again.

However, I'm keeping the quantity moderate so that I don't get a stomach ache or get sleepy.

This exploration is not to defeat the Elder Lich.

The purpose is to bring back as much information as possible about the Elder Lich's ecology and fighting style for future reference.

Thus, I decided to take on a stealth exploration for the first time since I came to this [Knight's Holy Remains]--.

[WN] Villainous Witch : Chapter 24

Chapter 24

Maybe You're Lovesick?

Translator : PolterGlast

"――――Would you mind meeting me and talking?"

Lotus stared at me with a serious expression. "Eh, u... uh..." His black-purple eyes looked straight down at me. He's handsome. No, that wasn't the issue. There was only one thing I wanted to say.

"No, I refuse!!!"

Seiyaa! I unleashed a familiar knife-hand strike. I was desperately trying to hide my identity, so why should I be the one to initiate contact? I absolutely don't want to. "Whoa!" It wasn't because I was forceful, but it was a demand to let go! Lotus immediately released one hand and looked at me with puppy-dog eyes. I almost felt a tug at my heart, but there wasn't just one problem.

My own MP gauge was already about to bottom out. The blinking indicator was in the corner of my vision. I'm not Cinderella after all.

I immediately gathered Ichi and the others. "Well then! I don't think we'll be meeting again! Thank you for your hard work, and please take care of yourself!!" I hated that the only parting words I could manage were like a set phrase. I wanted to improve my vocabulary.

"...Whenever you feel like it is fine!"

Lotus's voice came from behind me.

I didn't look back. Ichi and the others were also shouting that someone was coming. Besides the time limit for my transformation, it seemed like I was already at my limit. I ran. I jumped with all my might onto Ichi and the others, who were solidifying around me. In an instant, my body shrunk and I was back to my usual reassuring size. Boing, boboboing. For short distances, riding on top of everyone was faster.

With this, I would no longer be involved with Lotus.

The cloudiness in my heart had completely cleared, so I was able to sleep soundly that night. Finally, things would become easier to live with.

The day after tomorrow. While I was serving at Harapeko-tei, Lotus came in, looking the same as before. The dark circles under his eyes were gone. "Good, good," I thought, handing him the stew as he sat at a table with his arms crossed. "Ah, sorry," Lotus said, ruffling my hair, and then stared blankly at the spoon in his hand. His reaction was slow.

Usually, he would eagerly scoop up the stew and chew with gusto, but Lotus just looked from the spoon to the stew. His movements were sluggish. Was he okay? Sutra-san, who had recently started coming out of the kitchen for short periods, saw Lotus's strange behavior and chuckled.

"Maybe he's lovesick or something."

It was a derisive laugh. "Lo... lo..." I held the tray and opened and closed my mouth. For some reason, I felt shocked. The word "love" just didn't seem to fit Lotus. No, in the main story of the game, he was one of the romanceable characters, so with a good ending, he should end up with the heroine. But I had only cleared the normal ending. He had just normally seen the protagonist off when she returned to her original world.

Lotus glanced at Sutra-san, who raised the corners of her mouth in a "heh," and replied curtly, "Wrong." It was a sharp reply without any particular change in his expression. Surprisingly, he seemed strong against such teasing. I had thought he would be more embarrassed or angry.

"Then what's wrong? Well, that speed is usually fast enough, though. Do you usually chew properly? Don't you just swallow everything whole?"

Sutra-san, acting like the concerned daughter of a restaurant owner, asked, but Lotus just ignored her. The sight of Ichi and the others smoothly cleaning around him was somehow a little surreal.

***

I thought, "Could it be?" and sure enough, it was. I pursed my lips into a "" shape and glared intently at the young man in front of me while clutching the blanket I used as a cape. He was taller than me, but the heels made our height a little similar. My waist-length blonde hair swayed in the wind.

"Oh. Yo."

"W-why are you hereeeeeee!!"

"You ask me why?"

Leaning against a roadside tree, Lotus waited for me with his arms crossed. It was the same place and time as before. Several days had passed since then. The thought that he might have been waiting here all this time made my chest feel terribly uneasy.

"You said you'd come when you felt like it, and it would be a problem if I wasn't here. I'm just waiting on my own. Don't worry about it."

"But I am worried!"

"Baka, baka!" I snapped angrily. Lotus laughed. Just a little, cutely, with a grin.

The cobblestone ground seemed to stretch endlessly, and it seemed like the only people in the city at night were just me, Lotus, and Ichi and the others. Of course, that wasn't the case. Floating above us, thick clouds swayed as they were carried by the wind.

And then, gradually, Lotus and I started meeting and talking occasionally. Just for short, brief periods of time, though.

[WN] Shut-In : Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Elder Lich

Translator : PolterGlast

"Ooo..."

What came was a monster that looked very similar to the Lich that appeared on the seventh floor.

The robe it was wearing was of a higher quality, and it exuded an air of dignity.

And while the jewel on the top of the staff was the size of a fist for the Lich, this one is about the size of a baby's head.

The size of the staff seems to be about one size larger to match the jewel.

Also, if you look closely, there is a little flesh on the bones... the difference in appearance is not that significant.

But the pressure emitted from that body is overwhelmingly intense compared to the monsters I've fought so far.

And the most abnormal thing of all - the Elder Lich was completely floating in mid-air.

And, with the wind surrounding its body, it was approaching me at a tremendous speed.

If you look closely, you can see that the green jewel attached to the staff in his hand is glowing.

Perhaps he is already using wind magic?

Wind magic I don't know... is it the flying magic that I can't use yet!?

If so, that means he has already mastered wind magic to LV 10.

An opponent who can use magic as much as or more than me...

As if to show the power of my opponent, something in my head has been ringing alarm bells all this time.

(--Okay, let's run away)

The decision was made in an instant.

While watching the Elder Lich trying to approach me, I immediately activated [Home] with my left hand and opened the door.

And the coin already set in my right hand was aimed firmly at the Elder Lich.

"--Railgun!"

I, who had already finished preparing to activate it, drew a line of lightning and fired the coins at the Elder Lich.

It hit the Elder Lich, which was heading straight toward me at the shortest possible distance.

With a cracking sound, it shattered several ribs.

"Ooo..."

The attack certainly did damage.

But that's all.

The core in the back was unscathed, and it was emitting a dim lantern-like light.

The Elder Lich is coming towards me at about the same speed as before, without showing any sign of concern about the broken ribs.

In my estimation, the railgun calculates damage by adding the physical attack power of the flying object to the pure magic attack power of the magic itself and referring to both.

So there is no doubt that the Elder Lich has quite high defense and magic resistance.

Since he doesn't care even if his ribs disappear like that, it's better to think that he can also recover with dark magic.

Yeah, with my current self, it's impossible to buy time to use Judgment Ray while fighting this Elder Lich.

It seems difficult unless I can use dual activation more skillfully, or activate LV 10 magic instantly.

"Oo..."

I immediately stepped into my home.

Then, with the door open, I observe the floor on the other side.

The Elder Lich should not be able to see me anymore, but it continued to fly and held up his staff towards me.

The green jewel embedded in the tip of the staff is cloudy.

It was as if a drop of black was dropped into a green palette.

The black mixed with the green started to dance, and the cloudy green emitted black light.

"Oooooo!"

While making a chilling voice, the Elder Lich begins to construct magic.

I had a bad feeling, so I immediately closed the door and locked it.

Then... BOOM!

From the other side of the door, I hear a tremendous explosion as if all the heavy machinery was activated at once.

I can see that the door that is taking the impact is clearly bent over.

Cold sweat ran down my body as I imagined the scene on the other side.

I gripped the door tightly while trembling... and breathed a sigh of relief when the door withstood the attack without breaking.

And after confirming that the Elder Lich's attack did not come after that, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief... I slumped down at the entrance.

"The difficulty level is definitely too high all of a sudden..."

All I could do was mutter that.

Apparently, the real challenge for the [Knight's Holy Remains] starts from this tenth floor--.
