084 Royal
Capital Dungeon 8th Floor Boss Battle

The doors to the
8th-floor boss room opened with a heavy creak. As we entered, the doors closed
naturally, and black mist gathered in the center of the room, forming the boss.
Countless Merfolk emerged one after another, and finally, a 4-meter-tall Merfolk
appeared, nearly twice the size of a regular Merfolk. Come to think of it,
Merfolk have fish heads and torsos with human arms and legs. They're quite
grotesque.
"It's huge,"
I commented.
"Should we call
it the King of Merfolk?" Gandarvan asked.
"It's a King,
then," I agreed. When I checked with Detailed Appraisal, it was indeed a
Merfolk King.
"The Merfolk King
is a Spellblade. It doesn't use weapons, but it fights by combining magic and
martial arts. It also boosts the abilities of other Merfolk by 30%.
Furthermore, it summons regular Merfolk one after another, so if you don't
defeat the Merfolk King, regular Merfolk will increase indefinitely," I
explained. The increasing numbers were troublesome, but it wasn't something to
be too pessimistic about.
"Gandarvan and I
will take down the Merfolk King. Everyone else, clear out the small fry,"
I commanded.
"Yes!" (All
of them) It wasn't much of a strategy, but I gave simple instructions. I also
summoned Rose, the Lesser Vine Spirit, and instructed her to protect the rear
guard.
"Anneliese, I'm
counting on you."
"Yes! Thunder
Burst!" Anneliese chanted. A flash of light and a roar. Countless
lightning bolts swept away the small fry.
"Let's go!"
I roared. The Merfolk King glared at us with hatred as we charged forward. A
magic circle appeared in front of the Merfolk King, and a rapidly spinning ring
of water flew towards us.
"Whoa!"
Gandarvan dodged it with his shield, and the spinning water saw sliced into the
ceiling.
After the magic, it
summoned small fry. Merfolk poked their heads out of the ground and floated
upwards.
"Take that!"
I kicked a Merfolk that appeared in front of me like a soccer ball. I heard a
bone snap, and the Merfolk vanished even mid-summon.
"Hmph! Anger
Lock!" Gandarvan, still holding his shield, tackled the Merfolk King,
raising its aggro.
The Merfolk King
stumbled backward three steps, but immediately threw a punch. Gandarvan's feet
sank into the ground as he blocked the punch with his shield. The dungeon walls
and floor weren't supposed to break that easily, but it seemed not to be the
case in a battle of this level.
I circled to the side
of the Merfolk King and slashed at its thick leg. It was exposed, without armor
or scales, but it was incredibly tough. As expected of a boss.
"Then how about
this, Heroic Slash!" I chanted. The Heroic Slash skill, from my Heroic
Sword Master job, which had leveled up to (Medium) proficiency, instantly
reduced the Merfolk King's HP cap by 20%. Heroic Slash can sometimes be
resisted, but if MATK is high, it's difficult to resist. It's a very cheat-like
skill that's hard to resist even against high-HP monsters like bosses if you
put Status Points into INT.
"Syaaaaaaaa"
the Merfolk King shrieked in anger. A magic circle appeared in front of it.
"You won't!"
Gandarvan roared. "Shield Attack!" The magic circle dispersed due to
the knockback effect of Shield Attack.
"Nice,
Gandarvan!" I praised. I wouldn't be outdone!
"Penetration!"
I shouted. Penetration, which ignores defense and always deals 250 points of
damage, was a skill from my Reincarnated Hero job.
"Syaaaaaaaa"
the Merfolk King shrieked again, recovering from the knockback and rushing
Gandarvan.
"Iron Wall!"
Gandarvan activated Iron Wall, hardening his defense with his shield and
enduring the countless punches and kicks like a turtle. The Iron Wall skill
reduced incoming damage by 20% for 1 minute.
While we engaged in
intense offense and defense, Rosalina and Lin were primarily reducing the
number of small fry. However, as long as the Merfolk King was present, small
fry would continue to be summoned. Even though they were small fry, they were
significantly strengthened compared to regular Merfolk. With the boss bonus and
the presence of the Merfolk King further boosting their abilities by 30%, they
were opponents that could cause serious injury if Rosalina and the others were
careless.
Gandarvan continued to
apply Anger Lock while dealing damage to the Merfolk King with Power Attack and
Violence Attack. I also used my skills to deal damage. Among them, the Flurry
of Slashes skill, learned at Heroic Sword Master Lv10, was easy to use.
Flurry of Slashes
(Low) not only dealt up to 10 slashes to the enemy, but each slash had a 3x ATK
value, dealing ridiculous damage.
"Alright, this is
the end!" I declared. ---Skill: Hero's Return! I swung my demonic sword
Salman, and a searing dome enveloped the Merfolk King.
"Syaaaaaaaa"
the Merfolk King writhed in agony within the dome.
This was a skill
learned at Heroic Sword Master Lv30. Its proficiency was still (Minor), but it
was an overpowered skill that confined all enemies within a 3-meter radius in a
searing dome, dealing a total of 1500 points of defense-ignoring damage. The
1500 points of damage were divided equally among the enemies, but this time,
since only the Merfolk King was in the dome, all 1500 points went to the
Merfolk King.
The current Hero's
Return skill consumed a large amount of MP, 150 points, and even as a
Reincarnated Hero, I could only use it twice, so it could be said to be a
boss-battle-specialized skill.
As the searing dome
vanished, the Merfolk King also disappeared. While we were defeating the
Merfolk King, no small fry interfered at all. I looked around proudly,
thinking, As expected of my comrades.
"Only five
more," I murmured. The small fry's summoning rate must have been quite
fast, but thanks to Rosalina and the others' efforts, only five remained.
"Gandarvan. The
final touch," I commanded.
"Understood!"
Gandarvan replied. Gandarvan and I joined in, annihilating the remaining small
fry.
"Everyone, good
work. Are there any injuries?" I asked.
"Only a few
scrapes for Colon and Karon," Gandarvan replied. I set my sub-job to Holy
Forgiver and healed their injuries.
" " Thank
you! " "
"When you're
injured, be honest. There's nothing to be ashamed of," I instructed them.
" " Yes!
" "
With this, we had
conquered the 8th floor. The total number of Merfolk we fought on the 8th floor
easily exceeded 3,000. The drop items were as follows:
<Merfolk
(Normal)>
·
D-rank magic stones: Guild exchange value 150,000
Grill x 3000 = 450,000,000 Grill
<Merfolk (Rare)>
·
Demonic Sword (one-handed): Guild exchange value 1,000,000
Grill x 70 = 70,000,000 Grill
·
Demonic Sword (two-handed): Guild exchange value
1,200,000 Grill x 50 = 60,000,000 Grill
·
Demonic Spear: Guild exchange value 1,000,000 Grill x
50 = 50,000,000 Grill
·
Demonic Bow: Guild exchange value 1,500,000 Grill x 20
= 30,000,000 Grill
·
Magic Staff: Guild exchange value 1,200,000 Grill x 20
= 24,000,000 Grill
※ All demonic weapons are water attribute.
<Boss Merfolk

·
C-rank magic stones: 300,000 Grill x 80 = 24,000,000
Grill
<Boss Merfolk
(Rare)>
·
Demonic Sword (one-handed): Guild exchange value
2,000,000 Grill x 1 = 2,000,000 Grill
·
Demonic Spear: Guild exchange value 2,000,000 Grill x
1 = 2,000,000 Grill
※ All demonic weapons are water attribute.
<Boss Merfolk King
(Normal)>
·
Fire-attribute demonic sword (one-handed): Guild
exchange value 4,000,000 Grill x 1 = 4,000,000 Grill
<Treasure Ches>
·
Rejuvenation Potion: Not submitted to the guild,
estimated exchange value 1,000,000,000 Grill
30 100,000 Grill black
gold coins = 3,000,000 Grill
The total exchange
value from items obtained from the 8th-floor monsters alone was 719,000,000
Grill. I planned to sell the Rejuvenation Potion to the Duke. For a high price,
of course.
Even one run yielded
over a hundred million in profit, so the 8th floor was truly profitable. However,
the sheer number of monsters made it dangerous. It was a matter of how one
weighed the risk and reward.
Also, demonic bows
were surprisingly expensive. This was probably because they created arrows with
magic, requiring fewer physical arrows. Wealthy archers apparently eagerly
bought demonic bows, and they reportedly sold out immediately upon hitting the
market.
Even with the Lucky
Tail boosting rare drop rates, drops were quite scarce, so it made sense that
they sold out quickly.
"Alright, time to
go home," I said. It was still daytime when we exited the guild. I
wondered if I should check out the stalls for the first time in a while.
"Gandarvan. I'm
going to look at the stalls, so you all head back first," I instructed.
"Understood!
Then, with Anneliese-dono, I will also have Rosalina and Bath accompany
you," Gandarvan replied. He didn't have to be so formal, but that was
probably what he had to say in his position. I accepted it and watched
Gandarvan and the others depart.
"Shall we
go?" I asked.
"Yes,
Toi-sama," Anneliese replied.
"Yes-nanodesu!"
Rosalina affirmed.
"Understood,"
Bath added. Anneliese took my right, Rosalina my left, and Bath walked behind
us.
The main street of the
royal capital was crowded with people. The setting sun dyed the people and the
town red. It was a rather picturesque scene. It felt chaotic, but I didn't
dislike it. Above all, walking with my beloved Anneliese, anywhere was heaven
for me.
