Chapter 61
Resistance
Translator : PolterGlast
The Elder Lich's staff
is the first piece of equipment I've obtained in this world that I'm actually
using properly.
Until now, I've only
been able to use swords and shields to launch railgun attacks, since I've never
properly learned martial arts.
After using it, I
realized that this Elder Lich's staff doesn't just assist with magic
activation.
I can't quite put it
into words... but when I use this staff, something mixes into the magic.
In terms of sensation,
it's similar to when I use dark magic... but it's a little different.
If I had to describe
it, it's like something that's using dark magic but not dark magic.... or
something like that?
It requires a lot of
concentration to mix it into the magic I'm trying to use, and if I'm disturbed
here, the magic won't activate.
So if I aim for this
point, I can also stop the Elder Lich's magic (of course, the reverse is also
true, and when using the staff, this also becomes my weak point. But I can
create a powerful shield of light magic, so I can use magic without worrying
too much).
To put it simply, the
effect of this staff is that the activation time is slightly longer, but the
killing power and speed of the magic are improved accordingly.
It's quite simple, but
in the end, it's a given that such weapons are the strongest.
"Double Light
Arrow Rain!"
I counter the wind
bullets raining down like rain with a bundle of light fired at a density that
exceeds them.
The light arrows I
fired scattered the magic on their trajectory, and then rained down on the Wind
Bastard with their momentum intact.
Moreover, although the
degree of correction differs depending on the color of the jewel, this staff
can also enhance other elements of magic without any problems.
So my lightning magic
and light magic can also be enhanced without any problems (the jewels on the
staff I'm using now are both red).
It feels strange that
light magic can be enhanced using a monster's staff... but I've come to accept
that's how it is.
By the way, when I
keep using this staff, I start to feel a little uncomfortable.
I get a mild headache
and heartburn, so I don't use it very often.
I think... or rather,
I'm sure it's a cursed weapon or something of that sort.
However, in exchange
for the mild headache and heartburn, the power of the weapon is great.
By further increasing
the power of the already high attack, attacks no longer come towards me, and I
can now attack unilaterally.
"Gaga..."
But even so, the Wind
Bastard doesn't seem flustered.
Probably because he
knows that my current magic power can't break his core.
In this world, hitting
vital points is quite important.
The reason I, who
should have raised my LV so much, was defeated in one hit was because the Elder
Lich, who was originally powerful, received the staff's assistance and
accurately hit my vital point.
Simulation has helped
me to understand the concept of HP in this world to a certain extent.
In short, HP is a
numerical value that takes on some of the damage to oneself.
People with high HP
don't feel much pain even if their body is damaged, and their HP just
decreases.
For example, let's say
you take a hammer blow that would normally crush your arm.
If you have low HP,
your arm will just be crushed, but if you have high HP, you can have some of
the damage absorbed, so your arm won't be crushed, just feel some pain.
However, damage
substitution by HP is less effective on vital points.
In short, no matter
how high-level a creature is, if you aim for a vital point with a blow that can
penetrate defense and magic resistance, you can defeat it.
The reason I, who
should have been able to withstand the Elder Lich's attack, died was because my
head was taken off.
In other words, the
most reliable way to defeat an opponent in this world is to hit their vital
point with the strongest blow.
Therefore, Elder
Liches are more wary of a powerful blow to their core than anything else.
So much so that they
interrupt the offensive magic they're unleashing on me and shift to intercept
it.
That's why I haven't
been able to break the core unless I smashed it with my LV10 magic.
But this time, I
intend to accomplish it.
I use Light Arrow Rain
and Chain Lightning in combination to crush the Wind Bastard's mass attacks while
giving him fixed damage.
I won't give the
opponent any room to recover.
I've raised my mana
recovery to MAX, so I don't have to worry about running out of mana.
After continuing to
unleash attacks with overwhelming attack density, I make a surprise move here.
I use Accelerate and
Quick to buff my agility.
And then--I jump
forward.
From long-range to
mid-range... that means jumping into the Wind Bastard's range.
The Wind Bastard, who
noticed my approach, unleashes magic.
I rely on my intuition
to avoid the wind magic, which is difficult to see.
Thanks to the fact
that I am using a lot of magic, I was able to avoid some of it, but of course
not all of it.
Wounds were forming
all over my body and blood was gushing out.
However, I continue to
move forward while casting Last Heal on my own body every time I'm injured.
I continue to repeat
reckless attacks that would make even zombies turn pale, and close the distance
further.
The Wind Bastard, who
was intimidated by my appearance, takes a slight step back.
Yes, that's what I
wanted to see, and I take two more steps forward.
And then, my whole
body becomes even more wounded, and I get close to a distance where mana
recovery can't keep up.
I feel pain and heat
all over my body.
But my head is
terrifyingly clear, and I can prepare to activate magic without any problems.
I'm glad I continued
training to get used to the pain.
I thought so from the
bottom of my heart.
While taking damage
with a large amount of HP, I close the distance... put away the staff, and take
out the Skeleton Knight's sword from the item box.
And then--I unleash a
blow from point-blank range!
"Sword of
Extermination!"
A light magic with a
special attack against monsters, a magic sword learned at LV 7.
Even I, who am
unfamiliar with swordsmanship, won't miss at this distance!
The thrust I made
penetrated the wind barrier that was activated and reached the Wind Bastard's
core.
As the cracks
appeared, I thrust it further into the Wind Bastard's core, which was trying to
back away-- shatter!
The round core splits
in half from the middle.
Then the light that
was being emitted gradually faded... and the Wind Bastard fell to the ground
with a thud.
The Wind Bastard
disappeared soundlessly.
And all that was left
in the place was a pure white space full of holes and me, who was full of
wounds.
"Hah, hah... how
about that!"
I found myself
forgetting to heal my wounds and striking a triumphant pose.
Finally, I was able to
pull off a victory on my own.
While savoring the
victory, I felt a sense of accomplishment for defeating the Wind Bastard
without LV 10 magic, and gained more confidence in myself--.
