Chapter 72
Days of Training
Translator : PolterGlast
"Phew, phew,
phew..."
I just kept repeating
pull-ups.
I cleared my mind,
focused only on the dull weight I felt in my arms and the movement of my
muscles, and just kept putting strength into my arms.
When I looked at the time,
there were still more than two hours left.
When I exceeded two
hours, I wanted to release my arms from the strain, so I scolded myself and
continued the pull-ups.
The iron bar, which
was always below me, came above me for just a moment when I put strength into
my arms.
I savored that slight
joy and repeated it for about two hours.
Just when I thought I
was losing sensation in my arms, three hours had passed.
The time display
disappeared, and I checked my status.
My attack had
successfully increased by 1, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Alright, then
next is... cardio."
After taking a short
break, I started the treadmill.
Perhaps in response to
the increased agility, the treadmill belt was already spinning at an incredible
speed, sparking and making a clattering noise without any restraint.
To keep up with it, I
just kept moving my legs.
When I looked down a
little, I could already see afterimages of my legs because they were moving too
fast.
Or rather, because
both legs were moving too fast, it looked like a large object was wriggling.
"Hah, hah,
hah."
I think this treadmill
and the other training equipment I use could break at any moment, but it's
strange how they remain unscathed no matter how much I use them.
When an hour was up, I
had a quick drink of tea, and when two hours was up, I drank it all with enough
force to crush a plastic bottle.
And after sprinting
for another hour, the training was successfully finished.
When I checked my
status, my agility had successfully increased.
I didn't have the
energy to use the treadmill again.
I left the training
room once and turned around.
I entered the
simulation room.
And what I summoned
there was a Revenant (Knight).
I used Accelerate and
Quick, and layered Body Enhancement on top of that.
What I took out of the
item box was the straight sword I received from the Revenant on the eleventh
floor.
"Ooooooh!"
Without using any
magic, I ran towards the approaching Revenant.
--Five days have
passed since I fought that Knight of the Holy Remains.
I have been training
myself relentlessly.
I knew from the moment
I saw him that the Knight of the Holy Remains was an incredible monster.
But his actual
strength was even greater than I had imagined.
--After all, even when
I fought the Knight of the Holy Remains (Degraded) that I could fight in the
simulation room, I was completely defeated without being able to do anything.
At this rate, there's
no way I can win even if I rematch the real one.
I'm currently training
myself to win against the degraded version of the Knight of the Holy Remains.
The Knight of the Holy
Remains... is seriously too dangerous.
What's most dangerous
is that he calmly cuts through magic with his sword.
That's ridiculous,
right? That's cheating no matter how you look at it.
I know I'm one to
talk, but that's too much of a cheat.
The Knight of the Holy
Remains (Degraded) doesn't use the techniques I saw at that time, such as Holy
Magic Reversal and Grand Cross (so he's always in a Revenant state).
Probably, the current
[Home] gift can't reproduce those yet.
The simulation room,
like the training room, can be strengthened by charging an additional 20,000
MP, so it might use them if strengthened... but I don't have the leeway to do
that right now.
After all, I'm using
MP to strengthen the training room right now.
If I can't win against
the degraded version, there's not much point in upgrading the simulation room.
My current goal is to
defeat the degraded version of the Knight of the Holy Remains.
But this is quite
difficult.
The degraded version
of the Knight of the Holy Remains's strategy is very simple.
--Approach and cut.
That's all there is to
it.
And because it's
simple, it's hard to break down.
First of all, the
magic I cast is basically parried, cut down with a sword, or blocked directly
by the body.
The only effective
ones are LV 10 magic like Judgment Ray and Gungnir, but even those are
skillfully deflected with a sword when fired from a long distance.
So to defeat him, I
need to use LV 10 magic from close range, but then the distance becomes a
bottleneck.
If I close the
distance, I'll be within his sword's attack range.
The Knight of the Holy
Remains' swordsmanship is so refined that I'm no match for him now.
In his previous life,
his swordsmanship skill was definitely maxed out.
So once I get close,
I'm defeated with a decapitation or a thrust to the heart without even being
able to exchange a few blows.
I'm faster, but
strangely enough, I get defeated before I know it.
I couldn't land an
effective blow unless I got close, but if I got close I would be defeated... I
was stuck in a situation that would have caused an AI to go through a loop.
This was quite
frustrating.
Even if I raise my
physical LV and max out my magic LV, I can't even reach the degraded version,
which is clearly entering the realm of a shitty game.
But since I originally
liked games, I decided to keep trying to figure out how to defeat him.
The first thing I
thought of was raising my swordsmanship LV.
It's a simple plan.
If I get defeated
without being able to exchange blows with him, I just need to become able to
exchange blows.
I found out that
Revenants (Knights and Samurai) are perfect for raising swordsmanship LV, not
the degraded version of the Knight of the Holy Remains.
Because of my current
lack of swordsmanship knowledge, what the Knight of the Holy Remains is doing
is too advanced and I lose without understanding it.
On the other hand,
with Revenants, there's a significant difference in status, so I can observe
them with ease.
I imitate their
swordsmanship and sometimes force my way through, but I only fight with swords.
I found out that
Revenants are just right for me right now.
After I became able to
fight against Revenants, I decided to raise my LV by fighting on the eleventh
floor and raise my attack and agility status using the training room.
Status is justice.
That's the conclusion
I reached after fighting Revenants one-on-one.
Since I can't
technically catch up with the Knight of the Holy Remains, I have no choice but
to push my superior specs and win.
In any case, thanks to
pouring MP into it lately, I'll soon be able to strengthen the training room.
I'm about to reach my
limit in leveling up, so training will probably be my main focus from now on.
First, I will continue
to hone my skills in the simulation room so that I can defeat the Knight of the
Holy Remains--.
