[WN] Villainous Witch : Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Shortcut

Translator : PolterGlast

"Shortcut function!"

Now that I've snapped my fingers, I'll explain. The system of the game is a 3D RPG where you move the protagonist around to go on adventures, with a little bit of simulation mixed into the otome game genre.

Although there is a battle mode, monsters basically roam around everywhere, so if you want to avoid them, you can do so as much as you like.

The map is helpfully displayed in the lower right corner at all times, but the troublesome thing in such games is, as expected, movement. After all, it's 3D. Moving from one end of the city to the other is a pain, and if you move off-screen, you frequently encounter a pitch-black screen with "Now Loading." Sadly, this game, which focused on the scenario, didn't have particularly fast processing speeds. By the way, the cat that walks nyan-nyan at the edge of the loading screen is revealed to be the god of this world in the later stages. The slime that follows behind the cat looked a bit like Ichi and the others. Thinking about it, it was kind of cute.

So, normally moving around would be stressful, but that's where the shortcut function comes in. Since the game is designed with the premise of playing through various routes multiple times, shortcuts exist everywhere. Being able to go to the next day immediately by getting into bed is one example, and despite being an RPG, it's fully equipped with quick save, quick load, and a large number of save slots.

And another one is the shortcut within the city. However, within the game's world, there's a proper explanation. The Saint can use a warp function by extending the branches of the World Tree to various locations. This system, which allows free movement from the city's castle to the church and the tower, was something I thought only the Saint could use, but perhaps even non-Saints could use it for short distances. Of course, the only ones who can actually use it might be Veda and the person in charge of the tower, but it's worth trying.

The precision is vastly different compared to the actual city, but the general map is the same as in the game. I had a rough idea of most of the transfer locations. Even so, it would be a huge problem if anyone could just step onto a spot and enter the tower. It shouldn't be an easily discoverable location.

Searching my memories, I walked through the city with Lotus and the others and stared at the place that felt right. It was the back alley of the tool shop, where Yuko in the game would come out of the tower and immediately buy herbs and other items.

"Nnnn~~~... Appraisal!!"

I put some spirit into it, widened both eyes sharply, and even made a winning gesture with both hands. This was a completely meaningless action. Ichi and the others were posing nicely around me, livening up the scene. It was the best. Lotus was on lookout duty to see if anyone was coming. There was a huge difference in our attitudes. And then I noticed.

Hidden passage to the Magic Tower. Can be used with a password.

"...! There it is!"

Conveniently, just two bricks were shining brightly. It wouldn't activate unless you placed your feet perfectly on those bricks. It wouldn't activate if even a little bit of your foot was sticking out, and the distance to place your feet felt unnaturally far. And there was no mention of limiting the user. A password. Hmm, I flared my nostrils. Because that was easy.

"Branch of the World Tree! To the Magic Tower!"

After all, it was a line that was displayed in the game's window countless times.

Whether slimes blinked or not, the scenery had completely changed in the time it took San to blink. That was the situation. Despite being night, it was bright and the glittering starry sky had disappeared, and the surroundings were covered in dimly lit bricks. Magic lamps hung on the walls. In the faint light, I looked around and thought it was a gloomy room, but I found a large window covered by curtains. There was one bed, and the furniture like chairs, a table, and bookshelves was surprisingly substantial.

The room itself was dusty, a place that probably hadn't been used by anyone for a long time, but it felt somehow familiar. Of course, not from seeing it myself, but from beyond the screen.

--This is Yuko's room.
