I shook off the
bandits and returned to the inn, but I couldn't let my guard down.
They now knew I was an
explorer. Eventually, they would likely find this inn.
If I didn't deal with
them soon, I might have my throat slit in my sleep. And I refuse to live in
fear.
I wiped Anneliese's
body from head to toe, and then I had her wipe me back. I'd regret it if I
didn't do at least this. After that, Anneliese took care of the armor, and I
lay on the bed for a status check.
Today, my level and
skill proficiencies increased. As I was looking at them, I noticed something.
The number of
available jobs had increased.
Sword Master: One
skilled in handling swords. Can use Double Slash (Minor), Mind's Eye (Minor),
and Simple & Sturdy (Minor) skills. Acquisition condition: Single-handedly
defeat 100 monsters of equal or higher level with a sword in one hit.
This condition isn't
easy to clear. That alone makes it a job superior to Swordsman.
However, I've really
been helped by the Mithril Two-Handed Sword. All the jobs I've acquired
wouldn't have been possible without it.
- Double Slash (Minor): Sword technique. Performs 2
consecutive attacks on an enemy, regardless of whether it's a two-handed or
one-handed sword. ATK x2.5. Consumes 5 MP. (Active Skill)
- Mind's Eye (Minor): Predicts enemy attacks and
optimizes the user's movements. (Passive Skill)
- Simple & Sturdy (Minor): Increases own STR, VIT,
AGI, and DEX ability scores by 15 points each, and INT and MIN ability scores
by 5 points each. (Passive Skill)
There's even Double
Slash, which has higher attack power than the Buster Slash held by the Hero of
the Two-Handed Sword. Although it doesn't have the long range of Buster Slash,
its attack power is guaranteed.
"Anneliese, do
you know about the Sword Master job?"
"I believe... it
should be a powerful job similar to a Yuusha or Eiyuu. Could it be that you can
even change to Sword Master?"
She stopped cleaning
the armor and stared at me. Don't look at me like that; it's addictive.
"It seems
so."
"Since it's
Master, I wouldn't be surprised no matter what job you could change to, be it
Sword Master or Assassin, but I think it's amazing."
How did she know I
could change to Assassin!?

Master is a Hero (Eiyuu) of the Two-Handed Sword, those under your command will
be strengthened. In that state, even if Hero (Yuusha) and Avenger are
impossible, couldn't you raise Sword Masters, Assassins, and useful Explorers?

I swallowed hard at
Anneliese's words. I don't have that much power now, but that doesn't mean
it'll stay that way. I don't want to be a king, but I thought it would be good
to have the power to challenge a nation.
"If the country
and nobles knew of Master's power, they wouldn't stay silent."
I have a feeling they
wouldn't either. Do I need more power...?
And it's not
guaranteed that the summoned Heroes (my classmates) won't annoy me. I think
they won't recognize me since my appearance is different, but I need the power
to push them away if they do get involved.
"Please seriously
consider purchasing a slave."
"...Right."
Anneliese resumed
cleaning the armor.
It seems I really need
to seriously consider buying a slave.
It would be too late
to buy and raise a slave in an emergency. If I prepare it as a contingency, it
might become a deterrent in a crisis.
I guess I can't just
keep saying I dislike the word "slave"...
Assassin: One who
slays enemies by surprise. Can use Vital Point Strike (Minor), Stealth (Minor),
Trace Erasure (Minor), Godspeed (Minor), and Sense (Minor) skills. Acquisition
condition: Defeat a boss monster of equal or higher level using means unrelated
to jobs or skills.
- Vital Point Strike (Minor): Attacks have a 30% chance
of becoming super critical (3x damage). If the enemy does not notice you, the
success rate is 100%. (Passive skill)
- Stealth (Minor): Erases the user's presence. (Active
Skill)
- Trace Erasure (Minor): Leaves no trace of the user's
actions. (Passive Skill)
- Godspeed (Minor): When passive, AGI value +20. When
active, AGI value +50 for 10 seconds. Cannot be used for 5 minutes after active
activation.
- Sense (Minor): Senses presence in the surroundings.
Effective range is a 15-meter radius. (Passive Skill)
I used Item Box
Hoi-Hoi and defeated the boss with Anneliese's magic, and then Assassin
appeared.
It seems I'm not
allowed to use skills, but the Item Box is fine. Is it excluded because it's a
unique skill? Or, since it was Anneliese's magic taken out of the Item Box,
does it not count as I used the Item Box? Detailed Appraisal didn't tell me
that much.
However, the skill
composition is exactly what you'd expect from an Assassin.
If I attack from a
stealthy state, the 3x damage from Vital Point Strike is guaranteed, isn't it?
Stealth doesn't have a time limit like Godspeed, so Vital Point Strike should
be a very effective attack.
Assassin isn't a
forced job change like Bandit, nor are its acquisition conditions criminal, so
there's no reason to shun it. But to be precise, "Assassin" doesn't
sound good publicly, so it's probably better to avoid being open about it.

These are specialized
abilities. Since all my equipment is currently removed, the AGI value is
particularly outstanding. This is due to the effect of Godspeed. Even without
Godspeed, my AGI is 10 points, which is exceptional for Level 1.

when fully equipped. My equipment doesn't boost AGI, but my AGI is high even
without equipment.
Tomorrow, I'll train
as an Assassin. Fortunately, it's not weapon-locked like Hero of the Two-Handed
Sword, so I can use my Mithril Two-Handed Sword. If I could only use daggers, I
would have hesitated to train this job.
"Master. The
armor is clean now."
"Good work. You
must be cold. Come here."
"Yes."
I invited Anneliese to
the bed. I'm not thinking about anything perverted. I just thought she must be
cold and wanted her to warm up.
This room has no
heating. It's going to get even colder, so this is tough.
Houses and apartments
apparently have fireplaces, but inns don't. It seems it's common to wear so
many layers that you look bulky.
Still, it's apparently
somewhat better since it's not on the first floor. The dining hall on the first
floor had a fireplace, so a room directly above it would be warm, but you'd
also hear the noise from the dining hall. So there are pros and cons.
Would putting a rug in
this room help? It might be tough on bare feet. Maybe I should wear two pairs
of socks.

Anneliese's face,
right in front of me, was the most graceful in the world. We were close enough
to kiss if I moved my face a little, but I couldn't quite do it.
I stare intently when
she's naked and wipe her body thoroughly, but I can't kiss her. Whether
Anneliese would accept me is another matter, and I'm such a coward, worrying
what I'd do if she rejected me.
I hate myself for
being such a wimp. But I'm genuinely scared.
