043 Sword
Gargoyle Hunting Patrol
■■■■■■■■■■
Translator : PolterGlast
Upon entering the
6th-floor boss room, a Sword Gargoyle immediately appeared.
"Gandarvan,
go!" I commanded.
"Understood!"
he roared back.
Gandarvan charged
forward and activated his Anger Lock skill. Anger Lock is a skill that draws
aggro, and many Knight-type jobs possess it.
Seeing Anger Lock take
effect, Anneliese's Fire magic spewed flames. The Sword Gargoyle's HP
significantly decreased, but there was still a long way to go.
Rosalina also engaged
the Sword Gargoyle and began attacking. The four soldiers joined the attack as
well.
"Enchant:
Ice," I chanted, imbuing Rosalina with Enchant: Ice, which adds
ice-attribute damage.
"Enchant:
Fire," I then cast, adding Enchant: Fire to Rosalina. I could cast
Enchant: Ice and Enchant: Fire on the four soldiers too, but these two
enchantments deal more damage with a higher number of attacks. Rosalina, as a
Battle Master, has overwhelmingly more attacks than Swordsmen or Lancers, so it
was always going to be Rosalina getting enchanted.
"Anger
Lock!" Gandarvan activated Anger Lock again, fixing the aggro.
The Sword Gargoyle's
HP steadily dwindled. The soldiers were also chipping away at it. I had
instructed the four to land only one hit and then just maneuver to avoid taking
damage. With their attack power, they couldn't deal much damage, so it was
enough to just make it a fait accompli that they participated in combat.
"HP
Recovery!" Gandarvan's HP was also decreasing from taking the full brunt
of the Sword Gargoyle's attacks, but he was recovering using his HP Recovery
skill. Rosalina also has HP Recovery, but there's a difference between a Battle
Master's HP Recovery and a Strong-Armored Knight's HP Recovery. Even with the
same skill name, the effect seems to change depending on the job. Naturally, a
Strong-Armored Knight's HP Recovery is more effective.
"Firing!
...Fire," Anneliese chanted. When her magic burned the Sword Gargoyle, its
HP dropped below 30%.
"Its HP fully
recovered!" I exclaimed.
"If it's just
this much attack, I can last a whole day, sir! Anger Lock!" Gandarvan was
taking the full brunt of the Sword Gargoyle's attacks, but he still had enough
leeway to talk.
The soldiers were
safely chipping away at the Sword Gargoyle without taking damage because
Gandarvan drew its attacks. I hadn't expected Gandarvan's aggro control to be
this stable. I think it's also because he's dealing a decent amount of damage
with his sword. As expected of someone with "Strong-Armored" in his
name.
Finally, Anneliese's
magic delivered the finishing blow, and the Sword Gargoyle vanished.
"A complete
victory. Well done," I praised.
"..."
Gandarvan stared at me with a skeptical look. What's wrong?
"Does our Master
possess magic-type jobs in addition to Sword Master and Explorer?" he
asked. It made sense that he knew, since I had cast Enchant: Ice and Enchant:
Fire on Rosalina. Since we were in the dungeon together, I wasn't going to hide
it.
"Hehehe. I have
Enchanter," I admitted.
"Enchanter?
That's a job name I've never heard of," Gandarvan mused. It's a rare job
that only appears with a 1 in 10,000 chance, so it's not surprising he didn't
know.
"An Enchanter is
a Mage who uses support magic and cannot attack directly. However, they can add
attribute effects to the attacks of jobs with many attack moves, like
Rosalina's, to increase damage," I explained.
"So, that's why
our Master had such a composed expression, because you had Enchanter,"
Gandarvan said, looking oddly convinced.
"Even without
Enchanter, we have Anneliese's magic, so it's not a problem, right?"
"That is also
true," he conceded. When the conversation ended, Gandarvan called his soldiers.
"How are your
levels?" he asked.
"I'm up to
12!" Bath, the dog beastman soldier, now a Swordsman Lv12, reported.
"My level also
went up to 13," Jojok, the lizardman soldier, now a Swordsman Lv13, added.
"Mine went up
too!" Rin, the cat beastman soldier, now a Lancer Lv12, exclaimed.
"Mine also went
up," Solidia, the fox beastman soldier, now a Lancer Lv11, reported.
All the soldiers
leveled up. Since they were fighting a Sword Gargoyle more than 10 levels
higher, it would be strange if they hadn't.
By the way, Anneliese,
Rosalina, and Gandarvan's levels didn't go up. But mine did. Now my Enchanter
is Lv19.
"Hey, I hate to
interrupt your celebration, but we're going to hunt Sword Gargoyles at least
five more times today," I announced.
"What!?"
(All of them exclaimed)
Gandarvan and the
soldiers were surprised, but Anneliese and Rosalina, as expected, didn't react
at all.
"We're going to
level up by boss hunting. Even if your levels increase, we'll continue for as
many days as it takes until my level goes up."
*
And so, we continued
our Sword Gargoyle hunt. After 6 Sword Gargoyle hunts, my Enchanter reached
Level 21. I learned spells at Levels 15 and 20. These were also useful spells,
making me smile.
Anneliese became a
Mage Lv23, Rosalina a Battle Master Lv22, and Gandarvan a Strong-Armored Knight
Lv23. The four soldiers also reached Level 17 or 18. They were growing quite
nicely.
<Drop Items>
Normal Drop: 5
Gargoyle Swords = 80,000 Grill.
Today, one rare drop,
a Gargoyle Buster, appeared. Since it's a two-handed sword, Gandarvan can't use
it. So, I decided that Jojok, the highest-leveled Swordsman, would use it, and
we'd sell the normal drop Gargoyle Swords. Earning 80,000 Grill (800,000 yen)
in just half a day was a good profit.
We'd also equipped
Gandarvan and the soldiers, and I'd had my noble clothes tailored, so there had
been considerable expenses. Money kept flowing out for other things, so earning
funds was important. Yet, that bastard Barukan kept kidnapping and drilling me
every day, leaving both my body and my wallet aching.
*
On the 51st day of my
reincarnation, I went Sword Gargoyle hunting again. This time, I decided to use
Hero of the Two-Handed Sword instead of Enchanter. Rosalina's level had also
gone up, and she was able to deal damage on her own, so it was a good time for
me to level up my Hero of the Two-Handed Sword.
"That's
Mithril... Since you are our Master, I will say nothing," Gandarvan
muttered, sounding strangely philosophical.
"Gandarvan-san is
starting to understand Master, isn't he?" Anneliese remarked.
No, no, what are you
saying, Anneliese?
"It's Master,
after all!" Rosalina exclaimed.
Rosalina, be quiet.
"Alright, let's
go!" I declared.
"Understood!"
(All of them chimed in)
"Yes," Anneliese
replied.
"Yes!"
Rosalina affirmed.
I repeatedly struck
the Sword Gargoyle with my Mithril Two-Handed Sword. It just wouldn't cut, this
thing. It was still hard. My Level 14 Hero of the Two-Handed Sword dealt almost
no damage.
"Take this, Ice
Slash!" I shouted. But the Hero of the Two-Handed Sword has elemental
attacks!
"..." The
damage was pathetic. Well, it couldn't be helped; I'm not a Mage, so my INT
isn't that high.
"Well, it's
better than no damage at all," I reasoned. It wasn't completely
ineffective. That was the only saving grace.
When Anneliese
delivered the finishing blow with her Fire magic, my Hero of the Two-Handed
Sword level went up. I'll continue to level it up rapidly at this rate.
Fortunately, the 6th floor is unpopular, and there are almost no explorers. We
can fight battles consecutively without waiting in line in front of the boss
room.
*
"With this!"
I shouted, unleashing Ice Slash, and the Sword Gargoyle vanished. As expected,
a Hero of the Two-Handed Sword Lv25 is strong. No, I should say this Status
Points (STP) are amazing. When you change jobs, all allocated STP are reset. I
currently have 66 STP, and if I allocate them to INT, the damage Ice Slash
deals to Sword Gargoyles will be incredible. I have to reallocate them every
time I change jobs, but the effect is so immense that such effort is nothing.
*
On the 52nd day of my
reincarnation, I trained as an Assassin. On the 53rd day, I rested. On the 54th
and 55th days, I trained as an Explorer. On the 56th day, I rested, and on the
57th and 58th days, I leveled up my Sword Master job. The Assassin job was easy
to level up thanks to the excellent Vital Point Strike and Stealth, but
leveling up the Explorer was tough. The Sword Master demonstrated impressive
strength, and all three jobs reached Level 25.
While leveling up
Sword Master, I noticed something new had been added to my unique skills.
"Master, I'm sure
you understand, but it's impossible for unique skills to increase,"
Anneliese said, her face close to mine. Can I kiss her?
"But Rosalina
learned a unique skill, didn't she?" I countered.
"That's because
Rosalina underwent race evolution. During race evolution, it is rare—truly,
truly rare—for unique skills to be learned, it was written in some literature.
However, Master hasn't undergone race evolution, have you? Are you saying you
evolved from Human to High Human?" she rattled off with incredible speed.
I checked my status,
and to my surprise, my race was indeed High Human (I was dumbfounded).
"You absolutely
must not let anyone else know about your Double Job or High Human!"
Anneliese exclaimed, almost screaming in a fit of hysteria. I remember
Anneliese's face then very clearly. Beautiful people are beautiful no matter
what expression they make, aren't they?
Double Job: Allows
setting two jobs. The main job's ability scores are reflected at 100%, and the
sub-job's ability scores are reflected at 50%. All skills from both jobs can be
used.
There was no (Minor)
proficiency indicator for Double Job. It probably doesn't have a proficiency
level. However, this is quite surprising content. I felt this was definitely a
trump card unique skill.
Also, everyone who
accompanied me in leveling up my various jobs reached Level 28. It seems that
Sword Gargoyles don't allow leveling up beyond Level 28, so everyone except me
is Level 28.
<Drop Items>
·
Normal Drop: 132 Gargoyle Swords = 2,112,000 Grill
·
Rare Drop: 20 Gargoyle Busters = 1,600,000 Grill
※Total: 3,712,000 Grill.
Twenty-two Gargoyle
Busters dropped. Jojok, the Swordsman, was already using one, so I had Bath,
the other Swordsman, use one too. I also kept one for my own spare. The
remaining 20 were exchanged for money. With this, both of our Swordsmen and I
would be equipped with Gargoyle Busters.
By the way, even when
attacking a Sword Gargoyle with a Gargoyle Buster, the Sword Gargoyle doesn't petrify.
I think it's because it's originally a stone statue, but no matter how much I
attacked, it wouldn't petrify.
Also, between a
Gargoyle Buster and a Mithril Two-Handed Sword, the Mithril Two-Handed Sword
has better performance. My main weapon will remain the Mithril Two-Handed
Sword, but I plan to equip the Gargoyle Buster when outside. Since the Mithril
Two-Handed Sword has higher value, it feels like I'm equipping a sword
appropriate for my status (?).
