048 Summoning
a Spirit

When I woke up,
Anneliese's chest was right in front of my face. I thought it was a comfortable
cushion, but it turned out to be Anneliese's breasts. I had been clinging to
Anneliese while sleeping. I felt bad about it, but I didn't regret it. Because
the feeling of my face nestling perfectly in Anneliese's breasts was incredibly
comfortable.
"Good morning,
Master," Anneliese murmured.
"Good morning,
Anneliese," I replied. My reflection was in her emerald eyes. They were
like jewels, no matter when I looked at them.
"Where's
Rosalina?" I asked.
"She's training
with Sir Gandarvan," Anneliese replied.
"Training? So
early in the morning?" I asked, surprised.
"Hehehe. It's
almost noon, Master," Anneliese chuckled. I thought it was morning, but
it's already noon? I slept well. It seemed I had slept like a log on the 60th
day since my reincarnation. Thanks to that, I was in perfect condition. So
energetic that it was almost a problem. I won't say where, though.
"What would you
like for lunch?" Anneliese asked.
"Hmm... I want to
eat Anneliese," I mused.
"...Alright,"
she replied.
"Eh!?"
Anneliese's lips met mine.
How soft! So these are
Anneliese's lips. Someone once said a first kiss tasted like lemon, but that's
a lie. It was sweet and sweet, so incredibly sweet!
"Your lips are
delicious, Anneliese," I murmured.
"Only my
lips?" she teased.
"Not just your
lips, I think. But, we can't go any further than this," I said. My heart
skipped a beat at her moist eyes. Ah, I felt something deep within me—that I
loved Anneliese.
"R-right.
Anneliese, it's decided that you'll be freed from slavery," I quickly
changed the subject, fearing I might push her down if I continued.
"Eh?" she
asked, surprised.
"I'm getting
rewarded for repelling the demon this time, and I managed to get you freed from
slavery," I explained.
"Does that
mean... I'm no longer needed by Master...?" she asked, a hint of sadness
in her voice.
"Of course not!
Anneliese, you're a very important person to me. I won't let you go, even if
you're freed from slavery!" I blurted out. I was embarrassed.
"I'm sorry for
raising my voice. But what I said is true. I want to be with you forever,
Anneliese. I want you to stay by my side."
"...Yes. Thank
you. I will stay by Master's side until death do us part," she replied.
She said something so touching. I also want to be with Anneliese forever.
"I'm happy to be
freed from slavery, but I caused a lot of trouble for many people because of my
accident. Is it really okay for me to be freed...?" she asked, still
hesitant.
"That accident
was an unfortunate event. You have your burden, but you didn't do it on
purpose. I think it's enough to live on, never forgetting the people who were
affected," I reassured her.
"Yes..."
Anneliese started crying. They were tears of joy, I knew, and I was happy too.

After lunch, I checked
my status. My Hero of the Two-Handed Sword and Assassin jobs, as well as
Reincarnated Hero, leveled up from the battle with the Lesser Demon Patis. Both
Hero of the Two-Handed Sword and Assassin went up one level to 26, and
Reincarnated Hero surprisingly reached Level 9. Perhaps it was because the
Lesser Demon Patis was Level 30.
I hadn't intended to
use Reincarnated Hero, but it was one of the few jobs that could use
holy-attribute attacks, so I had no choice. It was a job I hadn't planned on
using, but if I held back and everyone got hurt, I'd regret it forever.
Now, the issue was the
Orb (Lesser) that dropped from the Lesser Demon Patis. If I used this Orb
(Lesser), I would supposedly learn a skill. It was a skill, not a job.
The fact that I could
learn a skill was good, but did it have anything to do with my job? If I
couldn't use it without a corresponding job, it would be meaningless. Detailed
Appraisal didn't tell me about that.
"But I'm going to
use it anyway," I murmured. I picked up the Orb (Lesser) from the table
and willed myself to use it. "Spirit, grant me your summon." The Orb
(Lesser) quietly disappeared. Eh, is that all?
I quickly checked my
status. It wasn't in my skill list; it was in my unique skill slot.
Lesser Spirit Summon
(0/1): Summons and contracts with one lesser spirit. The summoned spirit is
random. No spirit currently under contract.
"Is it okay to
summon it here?" I wondered. I didn't want my room destroyed, so I decided
to go outside.
In the garden,
Gandarvan, the soldiers, and Rosalina were training. They were training this
morning too, but they're still doing it in the afternoon. Aren't they
inheriting Barukan's muscle-brain genes?
"Master, will you
also swing your sword?" Gandarvan and Rosalina are muscle-brains, though
not as extreme as Barukan. If I accompany these two, I'd be training from
morning till night. I can't believe it.
"No, I have
something I need to do," I said, politely declining and distancing myself
from the muscle-brains. I had just been freed from Barukan's grueling training.
I was going to enjoy my freedom for a while.
I positioned myself at
the edge of the garden and focused on Lesser Spirit Summon. "Spirit, come
forth!" As if in response to my voice, the ground swelled up. What, what's
happening?
A sprout—a plant
sprout—emerged from the swollen ground, and it grew, its many branches
intertwining. No, was it a vine? The thorns on the vine suggested it was a
rose-like plant. The intricately intertwined vines formed a sphere about 50
centimeters in radius, then stopped moving.
The vine-like ball
opened, and a faint pink ball of light floated gently upwards. I somehow
understood that this ball of light was the spirit.
"Do you
understand my words?" I asked. It floated softly, moving up and down
significantly. It seemed to understand.
"What kind of
spirit are you?" My image of spirits included attributes like fire or
water.
The spirit flew around
the vine it had emerged from. It seemed to be a plant spirit. It was a more
unassuming spirit than I had imagined. It hurts, it hurts, don't kick me! How
can a ball of light kick me?
Suddenly, I sensed a
presence and turned around. Gandarvan, Rosalina, and the soldiers were standing
there, mouths agape, staring at me.
"What's
wrong?" I asked.
"...It's not
'what's wrong.' What is that glowing thing? You're not going to say it's a
spirit, are you?" Gandarvan's frown was incredible. It looked even deeper than
Zaigen's now. And he's already accepted it, huh (laughs).
"Yeah. A spirit.
A plant-type lesser spirit," I confirmed.
"..." (All
five of them)
"Whoa! It's a
spirit-sama-nanodesu! As expected of Master-nanodesu!" Rosalina was the
only one with adoring eyes. But why call a spirit with a "sama"
(honorific)? Is there a religion based on spirit or something?
"I thought Master
had no common sense, but you truly have none. Master, do you understand how
precious a being capable of summoning spirits is? I don't need to tell you. You
probably don't understand. Yes, I know. Even so, I must say, when you do
something, I would like you to consult with me or Anneliese-dono first. Even
then, Master's unconventionality probably can't be hidden, but it might be
softened somewhat," Gandarvan lectured.
Whoa, he really let
loose.
"Are you
stressed?" I asked.
"Whose fault do
you think it is, whose... haa..." You don't have to sigh so heavily.
"So, summoning a
spirit is out of the ordinary, then?"
"Could you please
wait a moment? I need to calm myself," Gandarvan replied. I feel bad about
this somehow.
Gandarvan took a deep
breath, exhaled, and then stared intently at me.
"Now,
Master," he began.
"Yes?" I
replied.
"How many
spirit-wielders do you think exist in this world?" How many, he asks...
Hmm. There are only a few unique skill holders in Kerniff, so expanding that to
a few in the country, perhaps a few tens to a hundred in the world?
"About 100?"
I guessed.
"Haaahhh!"
he sighed, incredibly loudly. Was it more?
"As far as I
know, there have been, no, there are only about 10 or so individuals capable of
summoning spirits. And that's 10 or so throughout history!" Only about 10
people in history? That's too few. Demons drop orbs, don't they? So I'd think
more people could summon spirits.
"Your face tells
me you don't understand. Listen, only a select few legendary figures from
history, like past Heroes and Saints, were capable of summoning spirits, the
kind you read about in picture books. If it were known that you can summon
spirits, do you have any idea what a huge commotion that would cause?"
Gandarvan's tough face was very close to mine.
"O-oh... I'm kind
of sorry."
"Now, based on
what I've just told you, what will you do, Master?" he asked suddenly. How
am I supposed to answer this? What's the correct answer?
"K-keep it a
secret?" I stammered.
"Exactly. You
must conceal it so that no one knows," he affirmed. I got it right!
"First, only
summon the spirit where no one can see. The garden of this mansion, even with
its stone wall, is not safe. Please go inside the mansion."
"Yes," I
replied.
I was defeated.
Gandarvan lectured me intensely inside the mansion. And Anneliese even joined
in, so I just kept getting smaller, feeling like all I said was, "Yes,
you're absolutely right."
The spirit in question
floated around me while I was being lectured by the two of them. It had it
easy.
Fortunately, the
spirit can become invisible, so it can be hidden from others. Even when
invisible, it still appeared as a faint, glowing blur to me. Talking to an
invisible spirit might make me look like a crazy person, though.
Also, it seems that
the fact that the Spirit Summon skill can be obtained from an orb is not widely
known. At least Gandarvan and Anneliese didn't know.
