059 Item
Enchant

I changed my main job
to Enchanter and my sub-job to Reincarnated Hero. This combination gave me the
most MP. I lined up six swords on the workbench. I had bought them on the way
back from the castle.
·
Iron One-Handed Sword A: ATK+8 STR+1 Durability 25/25
·
Iron One-Handed Sword B: ATK+9 Durability 30/30
·
Iron One-Handed Sword C: ATK+9 Durability 31/31
·
Iron One-Handed Sword D: ATK+10 Durability 30/30
·
Iron One-Handed Sword E: ATK+10 STR+1 Durability 29/29
·
Iron One-Handed Sword F: ATK+11 STR+1 Durability 30/30
Why did I buy so many
iron one-handed swords? Let me answer that question! The skill Item Enchant,
which I learned at Enchanter Lv30, is used to permanently apply enchantments
like Enchant: Fire to items. It consumes a considerable amount of MP, but I was
attempting to enchant these iron swords this way.
The items needed for
enchanting are the base item—in this case, a sword—and a magic stone. This
time, I prepared E-rank magic stones. Detailed Appraisal told me that F-rank
magic stones are unsuitable for making magic items because they have too little
magic power.
"Item Enchant
activate. Enchant: Fire."
When I enchanted Iron
One-Handed Sword A, it cracked and shattered into pieces. "Failure is the
mother of success," as they say. I tried again with Iron One-Handed Sword
B, but that also failed.
I checked with
Detailed Appraisal, and it seemed the maximum durability limit decreased
instantly, and the sword couldn't withstand it. It was clear that iron one-handed
swords lacked durability. Should I try with a steel one-handed sword? It was a
weapon given to me by God, but I hardly ever used it.
Steel One-Handed
Sword: ATK+15 STR+3 Durability 45/45
"Item Enchant
activate. Enchant: Fire." Its durability rapidly decreased, reaching zero,
then it cracked and broke.
"Oh, come on...
I'm certainly not going to try with the Mithril Two-Handed Sword." Item
Enchant consumes an item's durability significantly. Even if Item Enchant
succeeded, the item would end up with no durability.
I needed something to
drastically increase durability, or a countermeasure to prevent Item Enchant
from reducing durability. "Maybe iron-type items just have bad
compatibility?" I wondered.
I tried using a copper
one-handed sword with a blunted blade that Gandarvan and the others used for
training. As a result, the copper one-handed sword shattered. It wasn't a
material difference but a durability issue... No, I haven't tried
dungeon-dropped materials yet.
Bath had one spare
Gargoyle Buster, so I decided to try it. "Master, the Gargoyle Buster is a
rare drop from a boss monster," Anneliese said, watching my experiment
with a half-lidded gaze. I knew that. But there are some things you just don't
know unless you try.
"Wouldn't you rather
use a Gargoyle Sword?" she suggested. I didn't have a Gargoyle Sword, a
normal drop from a boss monster.
I could go to the boss
room immediately with Dungeon Move, but the Duke told me to stay put at the
mansion for a few days, so I couldn't go out much.
I pondered what to do,
staring at the stone-like material of the Gargoyle Buster. Hmm, stone... hard
like stone...
"That's
it!?"
I picked up Iron
One-Handed Sword C.
"Item Enchant
activate. ...Enchant: Hard!" I watched its durability with Detailed Appraisal,
and it didn't decrease at all! On the contrary, its durability increased
significantly!
Iron One-Handed Sword
C+: ATK+18 Durability 108/108
Its ATK value doubled,
and its durability increased by 3.5 times! With this durability, attribute
enchanting should also succeed.
"Item Enchant!
Enchant: Fire!" Whoa!? Its durability decreased, but Fire was successfully
applied to Iron One-Handed Sword C+!
"Master, did it
succeed!?" Anneliese asked, looking very happy. Was she that happy about
the success? I was happy too.
"I'm glad the
Gargoyle Buster didn't break," she added. That's what she was worried
about!
Well, it's fine.
Gargoyle Busters are generally expensive. My feeling that it's not even that
rare, as one drops from about every 10 boss runs, is probably wrong.
·
Fire Sword: ATK+18 Additional effect: Burn (Minor)
Durability 58/58 (Iron One-Handed Sword C + E-rank magic stone + Enchant: Hard
+ Enchant: Fire)
·
Ice Sword: ATK+20 Additional effect: Frostbite (Minor)
Durability 55/55 (Iron One-Handed Sword D + E-rank magic stone + Enchant: Hard
+ Enchant: Ice)
·
Cyclone Sword: ATK+20 STR+1 Wind attribute attack
(Minor) Durability 51/51 (Iron One-Handed Sword E + E-rank magic stone +
Enchant: Hard + Enchant: Cyclone)
·
Attack Sword: ATK+47 STR+1 Slashing Enhancement
(Minor) Durability 55/55 (Iron One-Handed Sword F + E-rank magic stone +
Enchant: Hard + Enchant: Attack)
All of them felt like
their performance had greatly improved. The Attack Sword, for example, had an
ATK bonus higher than the Mithril Two-Handed Sword. And the fact that it was a
one-handed sword was great. The Hero of the Two-Handed Sword can't use it, but
Sword Master and Assassin can.
Durability increased
by 3.5 times with Enchant: Hard, and decreased by 50 points after applying each
enchantment, but since the base was already quite high, it wasn't a problem.
"Let's go to
Golteo Trading Company!" I wasn't going to the dungeon, but Golteo Trading
Company should be fine. I just assumed that.
"I don't think
there'll be any calls today, but if there are, tell them I'll be right
back," I told Mondark.
"Understood,"
he replied. I left the rest to Mondark and headed to Golteo Trading Company.
I traveled by
carriage, with Jewel as the coachman. Mondark kept nagging me to travel by
carriage since I was a noble.
Anneliese coming along
was a must, but Jojok, a soldier, followed on horseback. I told him he didn't
have to, but Gandarvan kept insisting that Jojok should accompany me as a
guard.
Mondark was meticulous
about noble-related matters, and Gandarvan was particular about guards and
heavy labor. And Anneliese, who always smiled at me, was sometimes blunt. Only
sometimes, though.

"Well, well,
Honorary Baron Footscythel. Welcome!"
"Honorary Baron
Footscythel is too long and pompous, please just call me Toi, Golteo-san,"
I requested.
"Then I shall
call you Toi-dono," he replied.
"Yes, please
do." Today, Golteo-san was present and guided me. We headed to the area
where weapons and armor were displayed, and I perused the items there.
As expected, Mithril
items were expensive. I purchased several steel weapons and pieces of armor.
There were also Mithril weapons and armor, but they were expensive, so I didn't
buy them this time. When my Item Enchant proficiency increased, I'd try
enchanting Mithril items too.
"I have something
I'd like you to see," I said, then Golteo-san led me to a private room.
Perhaps a negotiation space.
Jojok brought in four
swords, casually placed in a bag. These were the ones I had taken out of my
Item Box and put into a bag in the carriage. When I tried to carry them myself
after getting out of the carriage, Jojok carried them for me.
"Allow me to
confirm. ...Oh!?" Golteo-san seemed to use his Item Appraisal skill,
holding the Fire Sword without moving a muscle. He was completely still, but he
was breathing, right? His eyes were darting around, so he was probably fine.
"Where did you
acquire this?" he asked.
"That's a
secret," I replied.
"I see. So you
cannot reveal your source," he mused. I couldn't just say I enchanted
them. After all, I was keeping my Enchanter job a secret.
Golteo-san continued
the conversation with a look of understanding. "A Fire Sword, an Ice
Sword, a Cyclone Sword, and an Attack Sword. All of them are demonic swords."
"Is it possible
for you to take them?" I asked.
"Demonic swords
with unknown creators fetch a slightly lower price. Is that acceptable?"
"It's fine,"
I replied. Golteo-san nodded and priced each one.
The Fire Sword was
100,000 Grill, the Ice Sword was 120,000 Grill, the Cyclone Sword was 300,000
Grill, and the Attack Sword was a surprising 450,000 Grill.
Originally, they were
just iron one-handed swords, with only the cost of E-rank magic stones and
chugging MP Potions as expenses. The initial cost was less than half the Fire
Sword's price (50,000 Grill), so this was a lucrative way to make money.
"The Attack Sword
is expensive," I commented.
"The Fire Sword
and Ice Sword are cheaper because their effects have a low activation rate. In
contrast, the Cyclone Sword's additional effect is constantly active, so it's a
bit pricier. The Attack Sword has no additional effects, but its physical
attack is very high, so it guarantees stable damage, making it expensive,"
he explained.
The Thunderclap Blade
I saw before had multiple effects. That's why it was considerably more
expensive, apparently.
"If they had an
auto-repair effect, I could buy them at an even higher price, but these do
not," Golteo-san added. Auto-repair, huh... If I added Enchant: Regeneration,
it might work. Come to think of it, I've only enchanted one skill other than
Enchant: Hard. Maybe I'll try enchanting a second one next.
